    This will NEVER EVER be old. The build up from a normal, calm speaking president, to an annoyed, upset brotha from the corner was a genius idea. TV audiences from ‘77 were not ready for a show like this. The Richard Pryor Show should’ve been on HBO. He would’ve had more artistic freedom there.

    • @dupehotterthansoup
      @dupehotterthansoup ปีที่แล้ว +14

      The audience wasn't the problem. It was the network. They wanted to be in the Richard Pryor business without fully understanding the Richard Pryor business, so they tried to tame him, and he wanted out of his contract.

      Was HBO out then, or was HBO even a big deal then ??
      I know HBO was huge during the 80's but IDK if it was that big of a deal back in the 70's. He probably wouldn't have had that big of a audience on the HBO platform back during the 70's. I don't think cable was as huge as it was during the 80's, back in the 70's.

      But HBO didn't exist in 77. Even if it did the show would not have been seen by the majority of Black people because we couldn't afford "cable TV" back then, especially in the hood...
