I've been making these since the 1980s and yes, they taste great. Here in Australia they used to even sell special microwave plastic racks to make them with. I initially just used a plate like you do but then I bought one of those racks and have used it ever since. I don't know if they still sell them as many microwave gadgets are hard to come by now.

I tried this recipe and it came out very well! Better than store bought chips! Tip: Add a bit of brown sugar to get a sweet flavor to your barbecue chips.
Great recipe. This works. I tried a similar recipe. Two notes: In a 700 watt microwave, I needed 5 minutes on the first side and 3 minutes on the second. Also, we can save time by putting oil on the parchment paper and then oiling the top of each chip. This way, we don't need to flip each slice. I look forward to trying her flavor mixes!

Oriana Waldren I think you can soak the potato slices in vinegar or a vinegar/water solution. Then, before you cook them in the microwave, sprinkle both sides with salt.
Hi Gemma, I have been making these for well over 30 years but I sprinkle vegetable salt on them before cooking them in the microwave. It gives them a really lovely flavour. You can get plastic ring things (I don't know their proper name) that let you stack three plates in the microwave at once. I don't know what it does to the cooking time but you could cook more crisps at one go.
I have a microwave chip kit that comes with two mandolins, one for straight and one for rippled, and a round rack. It's a nuisance to use because you have to flip around the chips half-way through but it does work. The mandolins are made for it so they work better than slicing. I picked it up years ago and haven't seen anything like it since.

SahanTheMighty lmao....
I love smoked paprika. It's also awesome on popcorn!
I feel like the size of the microwave is the only thing holding this back. Good recipe.
AronFigaro or the size of your plate
You can get plastic ring things (I don't know their proper name) that let you stack three plates in the microwave at once. I don't know what it does to the cooking time but you could cook more crisps at one go.
I used to micro my French frys, did it once and it's was so crisp 100% through, not just the outside. was Best frys so I brought it home after that.
Oh my gosh this is the coolest recipe ever!!!!! Nice video Gemma!
Thank you Matthew :)

I love your enthusiasm, you're such a happy hearthling !
Why, thank you!
I don't know what it is but as a Brit, I smile when I hear an Irish person say the word 'potato'. :)
I hear you, Lee. ;) Thanks for watching!
Love to try this recipe before going to the cinema, by the way home made potato chip is better than the potato chips you brought from store
You make me hungry with that recipe. Those look really good. And you control what goes into them. Hope you have a Happy New Year.
With 2 cents per kilogram, and free solar powered microwave oven I would love delicious Potato chips here in Pakistan.
Thanks for sharing.
