One thing missing from this video honestly is any sort of discussion of community college. I essentially got 1.5-2 years shaved off my degree entirely for free with it, and worked on the side through part of it, and I think it might be one of the best decisions I've ever made. Its allowed me to be completely debt free and gave me some more time to figure out what I wanna do after high school and explore some other things I was interested in besides just my major there. The main thing you miss is a lot of the extracurriculars and other things, like you mentioned at the very end of the video but if that doesnt matter than community college makes infinitely more sense than normal college
Honestly I completely forgot to mention it so I'm pinning this comment. 100% if you do go the college route community college is the best way to go, 10x cheaper + it's just school so no bs distractions. Yes it's not as fun, yes it's not the "college experience" but it is the best budget version, thank you for mentioning this!
@@nikoyaps where i live, most community colleges also have extra curricular stuff, it even has all sorts of free full language courses and phds and everything, but to enter a good community college here is the absolute nightmare
@@nikoyaps I would disagree and say it is as fun, especially the one I go to. I've met a lot of great people and instructors, since it's a very small community they treat me like family.
The part about your parents wanting whats best for you and not knowing is so true. I just remember earlier this year my mom asked me about how school was going and my response was “I wanna kms” and her response was “your sister felt like that during college too” like why is that normal thing in college. There’s so much pressure to do good and majority of time people don’t even wanna be there
@@VybeX- fr me too, I really lack any purpose and wonder why my parents even gave birth to me or my siblings when they led miserable lives all of their life and are now pushing it on to their children.
Yeah, old heads saying you can only get a high paying job with a degree is the only reason those institutions are still in business. At the end of the day, they. are. a. business.
Where else are you going to make a decent wage outside of college or trade school? Most high paying jobs that are for the average person are found in college or trade school.
Here in Romania, the trade schools are a hybrid between normal highschools and American trade schools. And guess what? They get a decent general education, get to learn a skill in jobs that are in high demand AND the government gives money to the students that attend the classes (of course there are explanations to it, eg: you're very sick)
I haven’t listened to all of this but I think this is the case UNLESS you want a profession that requires the degree ( Doctor, psychologist, teacher, etc.) For example, I really want to be a therapist, but the profession basically requires a masters degree. So, I have to go to college. The problem is many students think degree = money, so people go thousands in debt in a “good” degree instead of something they are passionate about. And I think that is perpetrated by many outside sources in society, when in fact, to find a perfect career is to find a purpose. And to find a purpose you need to look within, at what you value in life and what you think you are capable of doing day to day.
I totally agree. I think finding a purpose and chasing your dream goes even further than to finding a perfect career, its the fundamental of living a good - or at least happy - life.
i agree i hate the idea that people say its a scam when its not for certain profession. Another thing is that people arent taught to research the job they want. For example doctor? go to college, art ? dont go you dont need it. IT ? isnt required but it defintly helps later down the line yano . Exaclty community college is so much cheaper too ! I graduated in DEC and if i could tell someone who wants to get into IT. I would say they dont have to go but they will be aganist someone who does.
For someone so young, you have a very good understanding of how the world works. I cannot stress enough, if you don't know what you want to do, DO NOT go to college. You will just end up wasting money and saddling yourself with debt, and schools absolutely love indecisive students because it means $.
I second this and I live in Sweden, a country where we don't even have tuition fees, you still have to pay for study material (which can be absurdly expensive, paying literal hundreds of bucks just for a single book). One really important thing is at least to be eligible for higher studies, allot of the trade school things are also part of secondary education (at least over here). At least it keeps the doors open, if that fails we always have "Folkhögskola/komvux" to fall back to.
We are truly blessed to live in the era of **Information**. Unfortunately, we take this information, the wisdom and knowledge, of the people before us and ignore it. @@darbyharris3790 Not really, I feel like their generation (Gen X) was conditioned into that being the norm, so I don't fault them really. To be truthful though, there were times where I was upset with them a year or two after the fact (mainly because I had paid for most of it, aside from my first semester), but being upset with them over something that was supposed to help me, I just realized that it's wrong to hold any resentment for someone trying to help me, since they did believe it would help and weren't just doing it to get me out of the house and away from them like so many parents seem to do once their kids hit 18. It seems easy when you've been removed from a setting for so long to not really see how it morphs and changes overtime. Price of courses and books, along with some extra curriculars just to name a few factors have gone up exponentially, while it's very likely that the quality of the education has plummeted. From my experience too, it felt like most of the teachers on tenure were there to just collect a check unfortunately and did a horrid job of teaching anything meaningful, and/or would waste time going on tangents about nothing related to the course. TLDR= No, I just don't think they knew any better and were just trying to help me improve my life
i never really wanted to go, I always just wanted to persue content. It's all I've ever wanted to do, and I feel like I don't fall in any of the categories of jobs that college would provide.
Just get a job and do it on the side if you want, as of now you’ll probably be homeless if you keep it up at your rate lol. But who knows maybe one day you can
Hey Soluh, that is exactly how I feel right now. I know I’m gonna be big one day, I won’t stop till I’m there. But..I am currently in college and believe you can balance both if you really want it. I think college or figuring out a plan B is always a good option. As of now I am going for business management, all this will help me manage my future plans with content along with giving me a great and fun job. Just look into some things more, I believe u can achieve your content dreams as well. Good luck.
You shouldn't go to college unless you are passionate about what you want to do. Too many times you see miserable students go because their parents made them be engineers but that isn't what they want in their life at all. I found that niche I wanted and while it isn't the college experience I hoped for, I am moving in a direction that I feel will have a great outcome
@@andreluizzenaidemarinho2274Unfortunately you are the exception and not the rule. Also you have to take into account that one of the reasons you didn't like medicine might be the teachers you had. //Sorry for bad English
Fun fact, even if you know what you like and want to pursue it, college might still not be the best choice because: a) You don't have enough grades to go into what you want and you have to settle for something harder which is similar but not exactly b) You have to take classes which have almost nothing to do with what you want to study or what you will use in your future. c) Both Personally I really liked programming, but couldn't get into Software Engineereeing, so I had to settle for Telecommunications I thought. And yeah sure, I got A+ in programming, but then Physics really fucked everyone up and everything else was based on it so I decided to drop out, and go into a Programming Trade School since here where I live community college isn't a thing and it's the closest to it I could get. I was miserable in college and almost ended it, but now I'm currently enjoying studying for once in my lifetime, learning extra stuff on my own like CS50 and also studying for a driver's license. My life did a complete 180 in months and I couldn't be happier, but of course this is personal experience and doesn't mean college is evil or the same would happen to you.
Personally, in general I had no good experiences going to college. There are times when I end up with the conclusion of "Even with a masters degree, you can still be a janitor" (no slander to janitors, you guys are amazing. But at the same time saying "it guarantees a stability for the future" also isn't a way to put it. People have taken their own lives due to disappointments to their scores, bullying and stress. My experience in this, I had multiple anxiety attacks everyday, it was never going to the right path so I had to dropout. People wondering: What is your job going to be? As for now, I 1000% agree that people who think like this should start building up interests because yes, you at some point can NOT rot at home all day Amazing video niko
@@darbyharris3790 No, but I don't blame them. Because they grew up in a society where methods of making money were VERY limited. But that also show's that they should start to understand what our society is now, we just have to prove it
From my personal experience nobody has ever said a degree guarantees stability for the future as a current college student we all have the knowledge not getting a job is a possibility but we also understand having a degree gives us a better chance vs some on their resume who states I would be good for this job because I think I can meet the requirements with no real study in the field also there is so many jobs that people don’t have access to because the requirement is have a 4 year degree in a related field
Went to college for a year and felt like I was wasting my time. Like many others, my parents pretty much forced me into college. I understand their reasoning, but in this day and age, college isn't the route for guaranteed success like it used to be. Dropped out after completing the first year and ended up getting a good job a few months later. Don't ever plan on going back. Good tip for y'all juniors and seniors looking into college: college is not the default route. Explore your options and see what you really want to do. Don't just go to college with no goal.
if you look at the statistics for american colleges, the tuition has skyrocketed in the past few decades yet the average salary for each degree has stayed the same or even dropped! there’s many different ways to go about life - though college might be one for many - but always make sure you have a plan in place for what you want to accomplish in life, especially if you want to pursue your dreams and live the life you want.
I’m 24, and i never went to college. I just didn’t think it was necessary for what I wanna accomplish in life. I was homeschooled in 5th grade, never got a GED or any of that, the school system just…sucks. It wasn’t good to me, it was too much for my neurodivergent brain to handle. Now, I’m still working on my, still learning and growing, and hopefully…I can find my place in life.
heres a fun thing to keep in mind, financial aid isnt gonna cover everything, so unless youre that one 10% who gets a scholarship, not even a full tuition type, you are going to likely leave college with a bit of debt under your belt.
I just hate how college makes me choose a major like I'm gonna know exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life until I retire at age 18, where I'm still living with my mom because I can't afford a dorm and I just got out of high school where seniors are still balling up paper towels and throwing them up at the ceiling.
@@darbyharris3790 No. I just wished I didn't have to spend $3k just to drop out becuase I wasn't in the right headspace to kill myself for a piece of paper saying I learned something.

My mom would argue with you and every other person that says “don’t go” I’ve tried my best when I got into college two years ago and I did not LIKE it. Everything was too fast and I wasn’t able to adjust to anything, and what’s more is that when there’s a test they don’t give you anything to study. I went back home and Mom’s still angry at me at the fact I dropped out when she empathized with me regarding how ridiculous my situation was. I’m 20, almost 21 this year, and I’m practically the maid of the house. I cook and clean, I don’t know how to get a job, and to this day I still don’t know what to do with myself and especially what I enjoy the most (digital art and animation). Im lost and upset but isn’t everyone whose in the same boat?
Sadly digital art or animation is something that seems more like a hobbie than something you could find work at, tbh. I have a family member that loves to draw so I kinda feel the same on trying to find a way so they can live by drawing. As a last resort there is always the military, my friend ended up joining the reserves and it has help him a lot. Maybe you could start your own hustle like how the other comment said and see if it takes you anywhere.
man I used to think I was gon fuck up for not going to college now a couple years I definitely do not regret my decision I’m debt free, my rent is low, and I still meet go to college parties lol but after seeing the way colleges work nowadays it’s a joke
when you start to look at the different ways your money can bring you a return on investment, you realize college's ROI is second only to, like, throwing cash in the fireplace
Yes, I agree. Now convince my parents. -_- I would literally pay you the entire amount of tuition in my bank account if you can manage to do JUST this.
Same but im gonna do it soon and give them all the facts just for them to argue with me but at the end of the day bro its your life not theres. Dont let them make u into a person your not

Funnily enough I almost did go to college. Had begun to apply for student loans and everything but once I realized it was going to cost me 82 grand a year (and had just lost my house), I bailed on it entirely and ended up teaching myself the thing I wanted to know (which was music theory. Still not great at it, but I'm getting a lot better)
Although I don't plan on studying music theory to an advanced level (will see if I succeed in getting past the noob level in playing the C harp) , I appreciate the people that do. I have no idea why you’d wanna go to college for music theory. Music theory is one of those things you can teach yourself very easily. Or at least with a private teacher.

Problem with trade jobs: retirement. Pensions are not guaranteed or even common in trade labour, whereas they are much more common in degree jobs. If the government and society wants more tradesmen and women, they need to supply some sort of pension, even a small one to account for groceries, etc.
@@darbyharris3790 Mhmmm. Well if you make tons of money in the labor industry, then use a part of THAT money to invest in something that will give you passive income, a pretty huge passive income, that can support yourself and even a part of family after you retire. Yeah I can agree on that. After I finished HIgh school, I took a year off for myself an did whatever really which was mainly just chilling in my room. After that I started looking for a job because college would do nothing for me. Not only would it put me in debt for most of my life most likely, but I also didn't have anything I'd want to go to college either, so I went straight into the workforce. 1 year later I've bought a bunch of stuff that I always wanted such as a brand new PC, a desk setup, an just small things that I could happily afford. I've also bought my first car & continue to save up loads of money in my bank. Not only am I doing good for myself money wise, but I also didn't go into debt to try an get a job. I'd say I dodged a bullet by going straight into the workforce & skipped going to college
Yup, they make us pay memberships that we don't use, and yeah the so many useless and pointless extra courses we take. All that useless hardwork just to get a diploma. Worst part is that your not even gonna get a job 100% with that diploma.
First of all, as a 2024 graduate, thanks for the well wishes, I appreciate it! I'm one of the lucky ones that got through debt free because I went to community first, and my commute from my parent's to both community and uni was good enough that I saved a TON of money on housing, but I feel very similarly to you. I feel like I just wasted my time in college because I all I learned is how to code, and that maybe this career path isn't for me. Even though we somehow managed to get away with barely dipping into my college fund, I feel guilty that I'm having what I'm calling career dysphoria right at the point where we already put in the time and money, but I haven't really gotten my feet truly wet yet. To top it all off, I graduated without a job/internship lined up, so I'm stuck looking for jobs for what could be a very long time, just stewing in this feeling of having wasted my time by getting the degree. Anyway that's all from me, to anyone who read all of this, take niko's advice, and try a trade school if you have even a shadow of an inclination towards it, and if not, DEFINITELY go to community college, best decision I made in my whole mess of a college life.
I graduated last summer with a Master in Finance at a top university. Also studied Python after. I applied for almost 50 jobs for over half a year, got 1 interview and didn't get it. Granted, I continued with the part time job I had during my study period and managed to get full time now but it's not even related to my degree. There are more than 100 applicants, A SINGLE DAY, after most jobs have been published. It's insane, utterly insane how tough it is. Now, Finance is tough because you compete with alot of other degrees, they accept economics, Finance, maths, engineering and sometimes also business/accounting degrees. Thats why there are so many applicants. I could get a job if I wanted, but I want a job related to my degree and I haven't been lucky yet, not sure if I ever will. Feels like I have wasted 6 years of my life right now, it's miserable .
I actually agree with this video, I originally went to collage in 2019 right after high school, then I dropped out in 2020 because I wasn’t gaining anything and covid. Flash forward the 2022 I went back to a community college, only because there were certain aspects of my business I started a summer prior I had issues running, and took the classes I needed. I got one more semester left and honest for those who are still insistent about college just start with community college, it’s 100 times cheaper, and in a way it’s more grounded between my collage is split into two campus one side tech school and the other side more traditional college.
Same boat. It’s been nearly ten months since I graduated from uni and still no job. If I don’t get something by three months after following every advice my mentor gives me, I’m gonna have to fall back on trades.

As far as dating in college I think that is bullshit too because college or any learning institution is not a singles meetup! The drama and heart break of relationship in school or college dating can be hell to go through.
I’ve struggled my whole life doing what others wanted me to do. Not exactly my parents but I struggled to learn to have any passion of my own. Currently going to Full Sail U. For Graphic Design online and honestly the online course has been really nice. It’s still kind of scary hearing some of the reviews but the idea that if I push myself 2 years for a bachelors and coming out with the knowledge I wanted to pursue a potential creative passion as a career… beats working in a warehouse for the next 5-15 years.
Trades people need to be respected as much as people who go have degrees and such. They literally are the backbone of society and the labor they do are things Most people don't wanna do!
As a 15 year old attending college, if you think college ain't for you, that's fine. But I'd recommend it. The people you meet, and the things you learn to me are valuable. And if you have a you, a parent or grand parent served in the US military, your college is free. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT. And If big Harvard colleges aren't for you, community Is great to. Is it a scam? Yesnt. Sure you can learn everything online. But it's that paper that says you went that is the most important part of it all
15 and in college is crazy bro! But yes, you do make a point, if you play the college game right, it can be vaulable. What I mean is that at face value, the way it's advertised, it's a bit bullshit
High school-> Military -> College major in STEM with and doing internships for which job(s) you want-> Graduate with a degree/experience/no college debt and maybe full time job lined up for your skills… This is the way
This the route I'm on! I get the experience doing the job that I plan on getting out and doing, get to pretty much get my masters without going a dime in debt, and get the veteran status which pretty much puts me above EVERYONE that's not a vet when applying for a job in the government. And I'm learning how to live life on my own while under a stable paycheck. This is the way!!
for me i just hated school and wasting my time there doing meaningless assignments and homework for nothing. If you want my time and energy i expect money for that kinda thing. Trades makes a lot of sense for me but trades require education aswell
maybe its not financially the best option, but it’s not horrendous and really what you get out of it is the social aspect. I’ve grown immensely in this way and have so many great memories, anybody I speak to who didn’t go say they wish they had (as they feel like they missed out) and aren’t way ahead of any graduates career wise
College isn’t a scam. It’s an asset designed to give you skills that you can apply to make a successful career. The issue is no one seems to know how to use college, or what skills they should develop or how to apply them. Anything at college is valuable. STEM, Medical, Liberal Arts, Law, Business, etc will give you skills to form successful careers. College never promised to give you $1,000,000. Nor did anyone tell you that. You assumed that based on impressions and lack of understanding. In order to succeed in college, you must know what it is you are aiming at perfecting and how that skill can make you money. Let’s use an example. You’re a young Junior/Senior in High School and discovered a passion for music production. You have some natural talent at piano and guitar and have some decent songwriting skills. What should you do? Well, if you want to perfect these skills, you need a degree. But also a plan after. You need to be able to see the career you want in your mind, and work backwards from there. Being fully immersed in the process to fully learn the proper skills to then build a career with your new skills. The second major benefit of college is networking. Yes you can learn on your own, but being physically surrounded by like minded people while enable you to start the groundwork of your life long network in the career you want. The people who find college a scam are the people who lack any understanding of what college serves people. That is the ability to allow people to master highly difficult skills while providing an environment for people to network and connect launch their own careers in the free market. And the people who fail to utilize that, are the ones who will burn the most from it
Realized this after working these terrible internships for accounting and investment management firms. Working an office job will be the death of me so I’ve gotta turn around and make a change. I’ve got 7 classes left to graduate so I may as well just finish. I’ll go from there.
Thank you for this! You’ve helped me think about how I should plan my path out of high school, I too want to go into college for a film and video editing degree and hearing you say even with that success you would still prefer going into Trade school over it is an insane realization to listen to. Congrats on graduating btw, and with this newfound knowledge I think this helps everyone, even ppl who don’t agree, really just think about it. Colleges are built off of those doing labor, those colleges require money for people to stay there and learn. Really it’s just delaying the inevitable of getting a job or doing whatever outside of college. Making a plan for what YOU want to do is necessary as early as you can think of one. Don’t think that college will fix things, but instead think about how you can make something work. I hope that I can do well with the knowledge I already have and hope that everyone finds their passion either through college or outside of it.
I agree with what you said. I went to college, choose my classes, and it just wasn’t for me. So, me and my father started our own business the same summer, and it worked out. Although it took my mom a while to accept the fact that I choose something other than college. I would probably be miserable and highly-depressed if I stayed in college.
Hey man, could you help me out with with what you did as for me, it’s summer break and I’m off college for a good while. I want to drop out and pursue what I actually want but my parents are so against me doing it even though it’s my life. I want to create a business and pursue my dream job. What business did you start up and would you have any advice on walking down the same path you did in terms of business. I really don’t want to go back to college as it never made me happy in any way shape or form
If I could make a different choice, id probably either have chosen to become an electrician or become a metal worker instead of trying to go for a STEM education. One thing that would have made me really happy would have been to combine electrical and mechanical engineering, could use that to invent things (something ive wanted to do but never had the chance of doing)..
i work as a hvac technician (heating and cooling, big air conditioners, that kind of stuff) and you really can charge whatever you want in this job, every year that passes, the older people (which is really all we have in the field right now) are getting replaced by new people, who are half as experienced and charge double the amount, the man i work for now is 60 years old and even charging the fair rate that he does, its still stupidly expensive, hands on work is a dying trade, and by the time im on my own and able to run jobs by myself, no one will be able to compete with me, ill be a precious commodity
Keep up with the videos your format is amazing i would love to see that as podcast on spotify or even as a vlog and maybe branch out to tiktok, this format would be great for it and it doesnt take much time to post. Path is wide open with opportunities for you.
I agree with most of what you said. I believe college is for people who want jobs that need higher levels of knowledge. For example Doctors, Engineers, Veterinarians, etc. Me personally I despise school and would like to work in trades. However my passion is animals so I am going to college to become a veterinarian
If you're not sure which path to take, your local community college is probably a good start. Maybe take a few classes or get an Associate's, and figure things out from there. CC is usually not too expensive either. Just my personal opinion
My dad never went to college and ended up being the manager of a metal plant and is making $52 per hour, I have a steady job waiting for me when I graduate that has a beginning pay of $18 per hour, this goes for anyone that begins there.
my parents didnt go to college and we are probably the most wealthy in our neighborhood. I feel like parents pressure their kids to go college for the experience which i find wild. You go for education obviously. My parents did not pressure me and I personally am in college but am aware of how it can be a waste of time. I think some degrees under the right circumstances make sense to go to college. Like I wanna be a game developer and its easier to get noticed if you have a degree. Crazy how times have changed tho.
I’m considering college just cause I’ve done 7 years of manual labor and I’m just so burnt out of it but I don’t even know what to go to college for yet 😂
I went to college and still unemployed. If I follow all the advice my career mentor gives me and still can’t land a job within three months, I’m going to trades 😭
It’s mad how backwards all this in the US is compared to over here in Ireland. I’ve literally gotten wealthier through government grants now going to college, also the vast majority of my friends opted for apprenticeships over pursuing college
I currently go to college. When you mentioned that college is getting stupider. The thing I know is that I dealt with some college professors that act like they have an excuse to be mean to me. Reporting them does nothing because even the offices don't care. Well I'll still study at college because it's been 2 years ago since I started. Also there are times in college that were good too. Also your Minecraft house looks cool.
hi! I'm a huge fan of yours. I am from Argentina, where university costs around $80 per month. I've decided to start studying software development, it's only a two year program, and I see it as a great opportunity. I am 19 years old, and I apologize for my English. Have a nice day!
Yep don't go to 4 year colleges and universities unless you're pursuing STEM, law, or medicine. There are very few outside of those that are actually worth pursuing. Call your local trade union for an apprenticeship or go to a reputable technical school to learn a trade of your choice. Community college programs for other professions are a good investment too. I talked to a guy once who went through technical school then to community college to be an AV engineer/technician making $70k. No where near as potentially body intensive as a normal trade. Looking for other training programs online for a career is also an option too. I'm sure there are some others out there that are outside of my knowledge.
ive noticed at least 2 of your videos are about thinking through things before acting like "do I really need to go to college" if you have a specific job in mind but don't be closed minded try labor and see if its for you because its much cheaper and could add more to society. "do I really need to date rn?" if your in the place in your life where it would be beneficial and not negatively impact your work and friends, and let it find you when you work to be in that place. its the same idea through both of these videos where your giving us stuff to think over whether or not what we want is really needed and how it would impact us. This is just what I've noticed through the few videos I've watched but its definitely a good thought that I've been trying to incorporate, who would've thought that thinking before acting could be so beneficial
I am so glad I made it clear I didn't want to go to college, I don't even know why I never wanted to. I am simply just glad I graduated from high school this year, Schooling is so constricting especially High School, I tried to go to school for upgrading last month, they said I was allowed to do it at my own pace. that was a scam, I was forced to quickly do an assignment and give it in the same day. that was the main thing I didn't want to upgrade anymore, and more reasons not to upgrade simply just because I wanted more education. I do love writing, that's as far as I know. My Parents and Siblings are trying to push me into going to college, and I recently found out that my siblings are scared for me to move out next year with my two friends. I honestly don't know if I should anymore, yet- I do/should stay where I am for a bit more until I am sure. I randomly found you, it was the relationship one in my recommended, I am so glad I got to randomly find you. you actually are giving good advice and no persona, real raw footage/advice. Thank you, you really are something else.
I think that if you are more intellectually inclined, there are ways to get a lot of money off your college experience. High-school college credit classes and dual enrollment make it possible to get a full bachelor’s degree in only two years, thus saving a lot of money towards a high paying, mentally skilled career. I believe the majority of people SHOULD be in physical labor, not the other way around, but we still do need a few office workers. Bottom line is that there are ways to work the college money grubber, whatever occupation you choose.
I have a masters in data science and a bachelors in mathematics. I’ve applied to so many jobs that I had to keep an excel spreadsheet so I wouldn’t lose track of them. It’s been many months and so far, not one phone call, not one interview despite my resume looking top notch. All the people who tell me to “don’t give up” are the ones who knew people that helped them get in. You need luck to succeed not just hard work. Hard work will only get you so far. You could work hard your whole life and get absolutely nowhere.
For certain things that guarentee you a job like a nursing program is good for college. Nurses will always be needed. I'm in a Physician Assistant program right now and after 5 years of school I'll have a degree and jobs lined up for me that'll always be in need, I'll have 100,000 salary in a couple years after that and growing, not a bad choice. A lot of trades are taxing on the body, and decrease lifespan, as it's a lot of physical labor (depending on the trade)
It's not really that college is a scam, the problem is that society is full of jobless people and there is a lot of competition, so the big businesses need to be sure which workers are the best candidate, and going to a college makes big businesses look up to you.
I quit college after my first year, I went for 3D art and animation. The cost for everything dramatically increased and quality decreased with the main food program only being opened for half the time it used to be and cramming double the students into dorms. Worse of all my current skills are on par or is arguably better than what was shown in the senior art show, and I learned entirely for free on TH-cam. And for the icing on top the college was caught using AI for their recent posters and fliers despite having an entire art department. Screw college and Kutztown University in particular.
jeez…as a 16 yo wanting and practicing hard in 2D & 3D that pretty much sums up my biggest fear past high school. Idk if I want to either go to a trade school for animation (there some near me) or start getting on social media to show myself now to make get into freelance/ to stand out. One thing I know is either one my mom gonna freak out that I won’t go to college heh 🥲
@bluz374 I started learning Blender at your age, highly recommend trying to learn animation now if you can, once you're out of high school you can better figure out if you need a bit more learning or if you're ready
Only go to college for things which you can't learn effectively via the internet... Or things that require some sort of licensing, example: medicine/law/biology etc etc... If you are studying Gender Studies/Art History as a Major, then you are better off without college (unless you have wealthy parents)...
Its wild for me that americans can only go to private colleges, and have to pay. I'm just starting my first year of college completely for free, the gov is paying for everything

I want to become film director but I’m not going to college because I also think it’s a scam. Why pay do much money for an intuition when you can buy your own film equipment? The problem. With me though is that I don’t have a lot of friends to practice film directing, I don’t have a lot of money and I still live with my parents (20y/o graduated may 2023) I have an idea on how to get into the film industry but it would still cost a lot of money for things like even the costumes and equipment
As someone who's about to go into their senior year of college, in my personal experience college is something that takes a lot more from you than it gives. I feel empty inside, extremely depressed, my mind is going and I wish I had the funds to buy a firearm and blow my head off because this shit has me feeling miserable and lost on top of a bunch of other things. I'm not saying this is what's going to happen for everybody that goes to college but please don't let your parents or any other people pressure you into thinking college is the only viable option for your future. Make sure if you're going to college thats it's something that you genuinely want to do and not something to please the adult's/peers in your life. College isn't a necessity to be happy, or successful and life.
if you want a firearm, enlist in the U.S. army for Uncle Sam or whatever your country's army is. Then go tell your superiors you want to be deployed in Ukraine and serve there.

The best way to gain experience on a college without going Insane is to go to community college. You go for less time (only 2 years), less pressure is put on you to do good, you save so much money on room and board if you live at home, you don’t need to pay for a meal plan, and the tuitions are affordable. For certain jobs a degree is necessary but an associates should be ok. Even if you’re not sure what you’re gonna do, the undecided major is always an option and still good for gaining experience
If I had kept the 10K i spent on one year of college before I realized I wasn't learning anything I could have afforded the down payment on a house before Covid hit and wouldn't be further away from owning a house now than I was then
It also depends on the program you choose in college. If you choose a good program like engineering, business, or health care and are content, you should continue that. However if you end up going into a program that will most likely screw you over later, then it’s best to find a better way to follow your passion rather than going thousands in debt.
I don't even think business is worth it, most of the business professors don't have real world experience. Because in order to become professors they had to go through more schooling to get a teaching degree/license. These people in many cases just go straight from classroom learning to classroom teaching
I went to a trade school to be an Electrician and graduated last year 2023 and it’s been hard to find a job so I gave up on that and im putting my full time into content creation for my TH-cam channel 💪🏼‼️
My brother went to college, they talked down to him like he was an idiot and he’s not. Everything they tough him he knew before, honestly the only thing he got out of it was debt.
as someone who went to a trade school (which was free for me because my school essentially collaborated with the trade school) its way better that anything collage could be. its cheaper (or free depending on your high school) than collage and the work pays more. its a easy money glitch lol. i went for machining and robotics. (basically from building robots up to running mills and lathes) and while its not my thing. my classmates for a 5-6 figure job certification for absolutely free which is wild. i did leave it because the work gave me so much anxiety to the point i hid in the bathroom but that's because a lathe can rip your arm off without breaking a sweat, there's way safer stuff there like computer science and agriculture. like if you have the option to try out trade school for free or for cheap, absolutely do it.
So skipping college makes you a visionary while the rest of them are just sheep following the herd. Because obviously, success is as simple as dropping out and wishing for the best. Who needs a reality check when you've got a good story to tell?
You give me Bernard Albertson(RIP) vibes and he also said young people are the backbone of this society and the world looks for people who know how to work with their hands(plumbers, electricians, construction workers etc..)
In Morocco it's a whole different story, even with doctorat it's really hard to find a job here, it also depends on the degree u have, and with a degree, you'll end up screwed with a minimum wage or even less job.
I'm in college right now for robotics and automation 2nd year, and so far it's been an incredible experience, i've learned so much from what i've done and have made many friends. I told myself i would never go into an arts degree cause everything in that industry can be learned (and pretty much done online) whereas i can't exactly rent out a 20,000$ PLC (program logic controller) to test a button input, i went to college to play with robots and im getting my moneys worth, college aint for everyone and thats true but as of now for me i'm having the time of my life
Find jobs are not the ultimate goal of colleges, that's the main problem. That can be your goal entering to a college, but the college's goal is to teach you something that you're supposed to be passionate about. However, I live in Brazil and here the best colleges are the public and free ones, so this might explain why I see things different.
Why is this literally what I've been living by since entering high school lmao... I know what I'm doing with my life more than my friends who are in college, and I've known since last year as a sophomore.
as a student I agree with what you said.but the thing is college shouldn't have been a place to find a job in the first place.college is not a scam when you take the concept of college as it is,but you are being scammed if you think this is the best way to get a job.If the area you want to pursue doesn't require any formal education, certificate you are just wasting money and time.I'm living in Turkiye and same here with USA,people think college = job which is obviously same in every country.I personally view my college era to cool down,to understand what is going on in my spirit and in the world and if I turn my education into a occupation which serves me financially and mentally its perfect,if it's not meant to be that way, then its a transition for my next level.
I agree with that ideology but that's just it, it's being sold to consumers in the US and possibly worldwide that college = higher paying job. If it was being sold as college = education for betterment of yourself, then it would be a different story and most people still wouldn't go
College sits in this sweet spot of "emerging adulthood", which is crucial for one's development in many ways, simply put, it's a period of self-discovery in life in which people can find themselves, explore the world literally and metaphorically, and generally learn what they want to do in life, free of too many debilitating responsibilities, etc. Many 18 year olds who just got done with high school and are thrown into adult life struggle massively, at least when referring to those who didn't have another way to this important part in their lives. But, as you said, with how expensive and stressful and whatever else it is, it more or less loses that which made it so important from a psychological perspective. And also, when talking about creation, it is weird, I may be *very wrong* on this and it is mostly an opinion but I felt like saying it even if I make a mistake, however, I feel like most artists who say they want to animate and are passionate about that, would go to college for that and end up with a job at Disney. That's cool in all, but he [artist example] work for a company, a company which expects him to be able to guarantee delivery of something, at a set date, that comes from something as unpredictable as the soul- this may be an exaggeration so perhaps take it as a example to prove a point even if it may be inaccurate. I am trying to say that it sort of "breaks the rules" of creation if that makes sense, it expects him to be a skilled animator who can adapt their style to fit for a new show production, it becomes stressful- which can ruin the creative process -and adds a deadline to something that didn't have one before, and incentivizes extrinsic motivation for something that is naturally intrinsic, among others I assume. There are also many benefits and counter-arguments to these: Many people find a balance and enjoy working like this, you learn important skills overall, and you usually get to work with other people, and many others which I probably don't know off, and it is a very valid career choice. And college is not the only way to this emerging adulthood, which is true. No matter how wrong I am, I do know such things exist and happen and that **"true"**, for lack of a better word mainly using it to contrast commercial art careers, creation is not about that- at least when not referring to the counter arguments, especially when that one artist probably just wanted to make pretty animations and fulfill his artistic vision and post them on TH-cam and talk to the people in the comments. Some people may feel the need to do that through college instead of what they actually want to do. This is a bit different from what Niko talked about, but important nonetheless. I didn't do research and don't have nearly as much experience as Niko does but oh well.
College used to the thing to go to right after high school but it just got way more expensive to get just a masters degree when trade schools are way cheaper and don’t force you to take extra classes. The thing I want to do is covered by at most 4 colleges in my state but if I did out of state it would be double the cost and I would have to pay dorm on top of that and I know people that went right to trade school and they are extremely successful. The really only reason college is great is that you can change your mind and not have to restart
I dropped out of college one semester after high school. And ever since then, I've just been doing jobs I don't like. I'm now 25. I've hated every job I've had, pretty much. And I can't afford college or trade school. I live on my own, so I'm going to trade school every day or university on top of paying bills seems so unhealthy. Maybe it's just me. But, I've become pretty jaded about life already, even though I'm young. I'm not passionate about much, and the subjects I do like are not marketable whatsoever. (history/literature) I just work, read, game, and workout sometimes. And I try to cope when I can.
I am 23 and I hate everything too. Before uni I was so depressed because I didn't want to want anything in life. Now I have just graduated as the bottom of the students but I honestly don't want to work at any jobs.
I enjoyed this video, I felt more engaged in it purely from minecraft and you talking about the game when something happened lol. I graduated around 4 days ago and applied for college last week, and it's funny I'm now in college still trying to figure out what I'm going to do, decided to just stick with community college since its cheaper, and even with working I'm not sure what I want to go into, it kind of sucks, but this video is making me think about trade school now, I like the idea of reaching out and asking someone to mentor you, it sounds interesting, but thank you for the video, it was awesome!! :D

Where else are you going to make a decent wage outside of college or trade school? Most high paying jobs that are for the average person are found in college or trade school.

Here in Romania, the trade schools are a hybrid between normal highschools and American trade schools. And guess what? They get a decent general education, get to learn a skill in jobs that are in high demand AND the government gives money to the students that attend the classes (of course there are explanations to it, eg: you're very sick)
fucking this
Do you resent your parents for pushing you to go to college?
Also I highly recommend community college to EVERY student

Fun fact, even if you know what you like and want to pursue it, college might still not be the best choice because:
a) You don't have enough grades to go into what you want and you have to settle for something harder which is similar but not exactly
b) You have to take classes which have almost nothing to do with what you want to study or what you will use in your future.
c) Both

^
I just hate how college makes me choose a major like I'm gonna know exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life until I retire at age 18, where I'm still living with my mom because I can't afford a dorm and I just got out of high school where seniors are still balling up paper towels and throwing them up at the ceiling.
Do you resent your parents for pushing you to go to college?
@@darbyharris3790 No. I just wished I didn't have to spend $3k just to drop out becuase I wasn't in the right headspace to kill myself for a piece of paper saying I learned something.
Damn bojack was feeling it

I love how bro just plays minecraft and gives out the best advice of 2024
Like anything else, it's what YOU make of it. Both my sons went into a STEM career. they both got college degrees as Engineers..and Both are doing very well. I mean, c''mon, you CAN'T go into college, party, and just breeze through to get a philosophy or liberal arts degree.. then COMPLAIN. Both my sons took hard classes, both Minored in Math, and both are well paid and have great careers. It's what YOU make it....
His advice is idiotic and proof that today's kids are lazy and entititled.. grow some balls and be a man
My mom would argue with you and every other person that says “don’t go” I’ve tried my best when I got into college two years ago and I did not LIKE it.
Im lost and upset but isn’t everyone whose in the same boat?
try making your own animation studios and put them out in youtube or something if that's what you like
Sadly digital art or animation is something that seems more like a hobbie than something you could find work at, tbh.
Well, what do you do for work?
when you start to look at the different ways your money can bring you a return on investment, you realize college's ROI is second only to, like, throwing cash in the fireplace
Yes, I agree.
Now convince my parents. -_-
I would literally pay you the entire amount of tuition in my bank account if you can manage to do JUST this.

Still not great at it, but I'm getting a lot better)
did you find a job, Im teaching myself that too and Im wondering if I should pursue a music career
@@depressio5395 Not yet, no. Would love to eventually get good enough to make music for indie game developers to use though
Although I don't plan on studying music theory to an advanced level (will see if I succeed in getting past the noob level in playing the C harp) , I appreciate the people that do. Music theory is the language of one of the most beautiful expressions of metaphysical elements (if thoughts are a part of both the metaphysical and physical, then so do emotions) . Harmony is beautiful, harmony leads the confused brain out of the dense forest of madness.

So what?
Do you not care about how much debt and evil scams there is?
@@darbyharris3790 Mhmmm. Well if you make tons of money in the labor industry, then use a part of THAT money to invest in something that will give you passive income, a pretty huge passive income, that can support yourself and even a part of family after you retire. You have to start doing that before you retire. There are tons of stuff out there. Just do something that will still make you money without having to be in the workforce itself. So if you retire, you're financially independent and can still live a good life.
@@darbyharris3790 that's important, but so not having to work until you're into the grave, because at some point if you can't do the manual labor stuff anymore and don't have the money and time for school, you'll be stuck doing service jobs and that's if you aren't replaced by a college student

What do you do for work? Any tips for researching what you wanted to do/options you had?
Feels like I have wasted 6 years of my life right now, it's miserable .
college is still a few years away for me but this video's really helpful for thinking about my future thank you niko
Us zoomers got SCAMMED by university
I recently graduated, but it has not been easy finding a job.
Same boat. It’s been nearly ten months since I graduated from uni and still no job. If I don’t get something by three months after following every advice my mentor gives me, I’m gonna have to fall back on trades.
what is your degree?

Why is the fact he went from life advice to just minecraft funny moments generic content, and now back to life advice kind of funny
Why have one type of content when you can have 2?

And the people who fail to utilize that, are the ones who will burn the most from it
I recommend Watching "Logic Vs collage"
What do your parents do for work?

You could work hard your whole life and get absolutely nowhere.
the reason the horse is mean is because he's college
Nah.. he's a equine studies major.
I'm struggling so much in college rn, I'm tryna stick with it but it feels like I'm wasting my time :/
I dropped out of college twice. First time was because how depressed it made me feel. The second time was from realising how much of a scam it is.

Didn't? -7000
it's crazy bro
You’ve given me the motivation to do TH-cam again. You’re very real and raw very refreshing. I love your takes earned a sub. I hope to talk about u in the next topic of my video as you’re a great TH-camr and encourage people to think for themselves and grow outside their box. You’ve basically hidden golden therapist content behind Minecraft gamepllay I love it. GENUIS! Keep going man 😊
The best way to gain experience on a college without going Insane is to go to community college.
If I had kept the 10K i spent on one year of college before I realized I wasn't learning anything I could have afforded the down payment on a house before Covid hit and wouldn't be further away from owning a house now than I was then
"dont go college, play minecraft"
My dad has decades of experience in drywall and he's willing to teach me it. I think I'm gonna do that instead of college lol.
Yeah I don’t really care for business either
(basically from building robots up to running mills and lathes) and while its not my thing. my classmates for a 5-6 figure job certification for absolutely free which is wild. i did leave it because the work gave me so much anxiety to the point i hid in the bathroom but that's because a lathe can rip your arm off without breaking a sweat, there's way safer stuff there like computer science and agriculture. like if you have the option to try out trade school for free or for cheap, absolutely do it.
i just graduated, and finding a job has been super difficult
Same exact boat.
College actively prints docile and obedient but skilled individuals on the regular solely to be hired by those who drop out or never went to college
Industrial Revolution workers. Boss's employees.
88% of millionares went to college tho
So skipping college makes you a visionary while the rest of them are just sheep following the herd.
Because obviously, success is as simple as dropping out and wishing for the best.
Who needs a reality check when you've got a good story to tell?
the one thing that bothers me is getting pressured from your parents even if you have your own path set up
You give me Bernard Albertson(RIP) vibes and he also said young people are the backbone of this society and the world looks for people who know how to work with their hands(plumbers, electricians, construction workers etc..)
I know what I'm doing with my life more than my friends who are in college, and I've known since last year as a sophomore.
very true, and you aren’t even mentioning the fact that a lot of jobs don’t require degrees.
as a student I agree with what you said.but the thing is college shouldn't have been a place to find a job in the first place.college is not a scam when you take the concept of college as it is,but you are being scammed if you think this is the best way to get a job.If the area you want to pursue doesn't require any formal education, certificate you are just wasting money and time.I'm living in Turkiye and same here with USA,people think college = job which is obviously same in every country.I personally view my college era to cool down,to understand what is going on in my spirit and in the world and if I turn my education into a occupation which serves me financially and mentally its perfect,if it's not meant to be that way, then its a transition for my next level.
There are also many benefits and counter-arguments to these:
Many people find a balance and enjoy working like this, you learn important skills overall, and you usually get to work with other people, and many others which I probably don't know off, and it is a very valid career choice.
