This Minecraft Scam Shocked Me!

Hypixel (a minecraft server for you non minecraft gamers), is filled with the most vile creatures.... scammers! While things are definitely getting better, one of the scams I encountered was something I've never seen before and I dubbed it "the automatic scam". Because it automatically scams you (genius writing I know).
Anyways this minecraft scam isn't solely restricted to Hypixel, in fact it can also be shown as a lunar client scam. Regardless, the scammer promises a free lunar cosmetic item or hypixel ranks and if you fall for the scam, you lose your minecraft account. Tough. And the worst part is the scammer is going to sell it to another loser for like $70, smh my head.

Also! With this scam, sometimes they will just send in a "login with one time code" email which won't have the big PASSWORD RESET words in blue. Regardless, never share codes from an email to someone!

these scams were actually getting so big in the skyblock minigame that the hypixel server had to add a special npc in the skyblock lobby that explains how they happen and how to avoid getting compromised

Honestly, it happens a lot in lobby 1 in Bedwars too. Someone with 900+ stars will say 3/4 or 1/2 in lobby and then proceed with the whole scam
I'm honestly very confused why Hypixel doesn't block certain phrases from house descriptions, like the 'Claim your [MVP]' shown in the video.

@@Alxx_YT Half the time, when the devs try to do indirect countering like having the npc, they have devs in on the scam in some capacity.
I can't say much for hypixel themselves since I never play online minecraft, or have ever touched that server, but ark survival evolved has that issue with modding (yes some members of their publishers are playing competitive and outright cheating on their game, and with admin power abuse too).

Hypixel has the most demented scammers there and it’s crazy.
A scam will always be too good to be true. If you follow that logic, then you will simply become invincible
Sadly this doesn't always work because there are alot of ppl gifting tons of ranks to random ppl to get cosmetically rewards. The hypixel community is used to get free ranks and the scammers abuse it

Thanks for covering this topic, theres an entire other issue that you may want to cover (if you haven't already) in hypixel as well, where people are nuking discord servers of well known players / well known servers, which removes the vanity link, they will then "snipe" the link and make it an oauth scam server or use it for cheating discords/irl trading
(they will also hold it for ransom or whatever asking for hundreds of dollars to return the links etc)

As an active Hypixel Skyblock Player since 2019, people tried to get access to my account or items through various means already.
The most menacing I had was an old friend of mine who quit DMing me on discord if he could borrow around 2b worth of items (at the time multiple hundred dollar in irl value). I nearly ended up giving him the items, but what made me suspicious is that his minecraft IGN has changed and he always used to talk about wanting to keep it since he made many friends using that name. I ended up asking him if he remember our good friend XY who we used to play with, and he surprisingly said yes. That name was a completely made up one, so I got out of the scam like last second.

I remember back in the day before the custom join messages were nerfed because of this. Me my friends would make fake "you got muted" messages and pretend we couldn't see what they were saying 😂

What they do makes it even worse in some cases, sometimes they've hacked into or have access to a high level account as the one shown in the video with Mvp++ and a black plus, which usually means people tend to trust those users more as having a black plus indicates some level of prestige
yep, there's really no countering it so long as they have an endless supply of accounts to scam on. Scammers will always find a way around. Best players can do is get educated on scams, knowledge the new generation of internet users don't tend to have.

there is actually another way to get your minecraft account compromised, the scammer usually approaches you in game and asks if you would like to join a discord server for giveaways (ranks, items etc) and then he invites you to a discord server, but you need to verify that you are not a bot (they say its to make sure you are not an advertisement bot) by clicking a link and clicking a 'yes' button. it doesn't give you any information that you are sending your minecraft account token (token is the same thing as a roblox cookie) to the scammer. after u have clicked the button the scammers have access to your account and you've lost your precious block game items that you worked so hard for.
The last thing I’ve ever expected to see on NoTextToSpeech was hypixel housing. I am literally crying right now.

I saw many of those and almost fell in one of them but simply understood its a scam and just stopped believing people
I just chat report and warn everyone in lobby from who is trying to do it

If someone sends a link regarding lunar+ or cosmetics, it is a scam.
As lunar purchases can be gifted directly by putting the username without link.
that is literally why i don't get that anyone even falls for those scams. they are so badly made most the time that it seems like some ppl are missing their brains...

I remember the being in the skyblock community and finding out loads of people losing their accounts to ratters with the Microsoft migration thing in discord servers I wasn’t a victim but it’s crazy how scammers have evolved.
FR saw loads of my friends fall for this. I retired from skyblock but had a fun time. Terrible community tho.
Didnt expect you to make a vid on this but power to you. Tons of OG minecraft usernames and cape accounts worth thousands each have been stolen with this method.

Something you should cover is ratting, its where somone sends you a mod skyblock mainly then takes over your account then sells your gear and coins and account for irl money, its crazy how often it happens

My little brother fell for one of these on his birthday, losing 6+ months of hardwork .
I tried helping him by contacting Microsoft to restore his account but once the scammer changed the security info Microsoft will ask you for the scammer's information not the original email or name

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COVERING THIS!!!! There's so many dumb children that fall for this CONSTANTLY. And a large part of this problem is people ratting to get skyblock profiles that they then sell for money. Irl trading has become a huge problem that's resulted in people losing their microsoft accounts a lot. So nice to see a popular youtuber for covering this and making sure more people know!

Very well explained, i have some irl friends myself that fell for this, some of them losing over $300 worth of cosmetics/ranks/etc on their account. Thank you for giving this subject some attention!

@@Maric18 I had played on hypixel for a whole year, gaining about 1300 hours of playtime, so I decided to buy a rank for about $50(idk the exact price), which gave me all the perks i needed to make the game even more fun. So yes, spending money on the server is defenetly worth it.
But i regret every singe penny i spent on lunar cosmetics for example, the money is now gone and I dont even use lunar client anymore since i switched to badlion(i dont have any cosmetics on badlion). However, I think my Optifine cape was worth it 100% just like my rank, it really makes my skin look cooler.
You can compare it to someone spending $500 on a pullover, which I have never done, same for shoes.
Or someone Buying skins in valorant even though they dont do anything better than the deafult skins.
My account is about $250 - $400 worth considering the playtime+stats(level)+cosmetics+ranks

I got messaged by one of these people a few days ago with the “said you may be interested” but I thankfully turned them down, because despite them knowing some random person on my friends list (even I forgot who they were so I doubt that) it just seemed way too sketch, and I already had MVP+ so that was enough for me.

As someone who's been hacked before, I must say that these scams have gotten much worse nowadays, becoming a major part of skyblocks underground community of hackers and ratters. From a simple fake mod to a website that instantly steals your account session id and saved passwords
As from someone who has been gifted a hypixel rank, when someone gifts you the rank, hypixel just gives you a 'claim' option without any links.I didn't need to even open my browser for accepting a rank, this was my case, could be different if the hypixel made some new way.
This has been a popular scam targetting the Skyblock community, and I was surprised that I actually got "gifted" a rank a few days ago. I decided to test out by using a random name (like BallsInYourJaws) and a throwaway email, and after that they just straight up redirect me and I didn't even have a chance to enter the code
If you encounter any lunar related scam websites please report it to lunar and they will take it down swiftly

My minecraft account has been hacked 3 times for this exact reason. Some scammer messaged me that i won a random cosmetic giveaway, and my old self 5 years ago, clicked on the link, and then a few minutes later, "your password has been changed", "your recovery email has been changed" and all that sht. Really wish i had an account.

They aren't exactly ratters since they don't give you malware, this is just a phishing scam.
Ratters would be someone who makes a malicious mod or software.
Sadly, the first one happened to me. The website is literally the exact same as the normal, just with different codes (the end part which I assumed was for different player ids), and they send you a verification code and then you lose your account

btw when someone gifts you a rank on hypixel it doesn't tell you to go to some random bad sites, there's not even any chat messages, just a book that pops up and says "someone wants to give you a rank, will you accept?" with two buttons yes and no
The way they do it with YT in their name is insane. I have another YT channel with 240 subs and 2 guys literally changed their usernames to my TH-cam name with _YT or just YT at the end of it and started going around scamming using the housing method and a few people fell for it.

Many accounts which are sold don't only come from these Rank Upgrade scams but some also come from 0Auth scams & from RATs (malware disguised as in this case a Hypixel QoL mod or a legit mod with some malware added to it)
The lunar scams tend to target high star accounts, and as someone that’s like 600 stars I get these types of messages to often it’s kinda insane. At first I would just accept the duel and just mess with them on discord, but after like 20 of these it’s really getting annoying.

I got one of these scams. I, since I'm a decent-good pvper I detected that the guy wasnt playing. No one that's bad bets money on something that they are bad.
I folded the guy, he hitted me twice. It's actualy hard to fall for these. Hypixel says that you gotta re-enter hypixel.

As someone who deals with these scams (in a good way, wasting their time, exposing or even scamming them back) I think this is a very good video. Shows what really happens, how you can report the sites/discords and a big warning overall.
Could you tell me how exactly you sometimes scam them back? I usually just scambait, but i kinda feel like hving a bit more fun with them...
@@Christian10aber09 eh, you can't really scam them back because most of the scam links come from bots partying you.
if you encounter them on hypixel what you can do is party the bot trying to scam you and quickly warp it to your island for free social xp.
My friend got his account scammed, and then some random noticed how much time had gone into it, counter stole it, and returned it to him.

This is super relatable, as once I got a dm from someone asking me if i want free vip, then told me to tell him my email. I told him my email that i never use and he said theres a gift code sent to that email. I looked at the email and it said "Microsoft OTP (One Time Password) code requested". Dont get scammed guys!

ive known this for a while, i always mess with then and waste their time by pretending to fall for it. one dude once i told him i knew it was a scam after was actually kinda chill, he didnt just straight up block me so yeah 🤷♂️
I know several ppl who do such scams. They say it's okay to steal accounts because falling for it is the victims fault or just "these things belong to the game" they use some of the scammed accounts for cheating and sniping other players, the other accounts are sold or given to other ppl they know. I also know several ppl who lost their main accounts to scammers. In my opinion it's also not okay to buy/get scammed accounts as you support accounscamming if you do that

There are many scams like this but one of the worst is with custom made "skyblockmods", which basically are built like legitamate skyblock mods, tho they will steal you minecraft session ID resulting in basically the same thing as in the video. You can watch a good vid about it by for example cekofari, but there are many others.

i almost fell for one of these as a fake bot popped up in my dms saying that i needed to verify my microsoft email to acces the server that i wanted to go to. Thankfully i checked the server before i verified and saw that there was nothing wrong with it. I was still just 1 click away from losing my account

as someone who used to play sb a lot and had a fairly large sb severe, you will be surprised at the number of people that fall for things like this.
Getting your minecraft account stolen and getting rick rolled is like paying a 100 dollar gift card that already been used
One guy literally tried to do this with me like a month ago. It all looked pretty realistic (I’m not that bad at Minecraft so it wasn’t unrealistic for me to win). I noticed it was s scam when the guy wanted some kind of confirmation code that literally was there to reset my password, I confronted the person and they blocked me. I wish I had played along to waste their time more but oh well, could’ve worked with younger people than me.

You can tell if it’s an official message from hypixel or a custom message by if there are asterisks before each line

I actually fell for something similar years ago. I was offered a free minecraft cape and, as a young dumb 7-8 year old, I went thru with it until my account got hacked and I got banned from Hypixel. Me and my brother shared the account at the time, so yeah, he got upset(luckily he doesn't play anymore, so he gave me his account). I didn't actually get unbanned until around 2 or 3 years ago, when I was 15 or 16. I never knew how to appeal the ban until that year, so I did manage to get my account back, and I always hate my young self whenever I think back to it.
the transition to the sponsor was cleaner than mr clean
when i recieved a password reset from microsoft it literally just said "your one time code" at the top and it basically indicated nothing about what was actually happening

I fell for this scam 5 months ago. Somehow, the hacker took control of my Microsoft account, but I reversed engineered the Microsoft retrieve account system and got back my account.
Its the constant switchin between hypixel and hypickle for me 😂😂

As someone who plays hypixel skyblock like my life depends on it and am on a whole lot of discords for it I get a dm for these scams like every few weeks. I am scared to download mods for the game mode now and am very caseous when doing so, I also had a few friends who have gotten ratted and it’s no fun to see, it’s so sad to see a game mode that I love hurt to a few ppl that abuse these rats
