    The crazy part about asking for 5+years experience is calling it "entry level". The amount of responsibilities do not match the pay. I have 10+years experience. How dare you ask for 5+years experience and want to pay crap. The only thing about the job being called "Entry-level" is the pay.

    The problem is the way traditional 4-year college is currently, being marketing is the real ... SCAM. In the early 1980's when, I earned my B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, we all knew there was no connection between a college degree and obtaining a job in the field related to your earned degree. 1st) Does you family own their own "blue" collar business (i.e. plumbing, hearting and air conditioning repairmen, electrician, welding, etc)? If yes, them just get on the job training and start your career; 2nd) If, there is no family business and, you still want to work in the trades go to community college for 1-year and then get an apprenticeship; 3rd) If you want to be a draftsman or an RN Nurse then, just go to community college for two years and earn an AA degree. Also, please do not forget commission sales jobs never require any education past High School (i.e. Life Insurance agent, Real Estate agent, and Stock Broker, etc.)

      You say you all new that there was no connection between a college degree and obtaining work in the field.
      But they view I get is, and correct me if I am wrong, that if you had a BS in electrical engineering companies would see it as a proof of hard work and skill and very often hire you since they would teach you at the job. But again maybe that is wrong? I was not around in the 80s
      My view however of today is that the BS degree is bare minimum, but they want you to know at least 50% when starting out, you do not need to know 100%, but definitely more than 10% that the degree gives you, So somehow you need to find the remaining knowledge through ether internships or someway else.
      Maybe it has become more expensive to hire? Or companies are afraid you will leave early and not worth to teach you. But Companies seem today to be terrified to teach from the basics today.

    Crazy thing for me is how much I feel this. This an in “I did literally everything right and can’t even make enough money to live” I’m a biochemistry and molecular Biology dual major that had 2 years work experience in my field coming out of college. I graduated with honors from a really good private university, and had to spend the next year nonstop applying to any jobs I could find. When I figured out market rate for my skill set and experience was $40k annually, my jaw nailed the floor. The job I finally got after a year of nonstop applying paid $52k which should be the greatest right? Wrong, I live in Austin Texas, and $52k is far too little to manage student loans, car payment, rent, food, and utilities, let alone medication and retirement savings. I had to move back in with my parents while I work full time as quality control in a pharmaceutical company. I even went into stem thinking this was the path where I’d get enough money to recoup the losses of student loans. What a scam…

    I have 2 degrees and they help me in my career. I think you need to have an idea of what you wanna do before getting a degree. Some degrees are useless but some can be used in many different fields. And there are some that are more specific. I don't think college is for everyone but those who plan on going should do some research on jobs and different degrees.

    • @THETHIRDL2009
      @THETHIRDL2009 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CyberMachine I'm a hiring manager. Ghost jobs aren't just jobs that aren't real in most cases. A lot of them are jobs posted and handled by 3rd party out sourcing like indeed that act as a constant opened door of applications especially in industries with high turn over. Meaning those postings are up when they are hiring, but they're also posted when they're not. Giving the illusion, they're not real. Sometimes, to even heighten the illusion , on-boarding teams will even do interviews even if they're not hiring because they still have to justify their role in the company they can't just do nothing and still get paid. But it can be beneficial when they build other locations, which why they're big on asking, "Are you willing to relocate" is a very frequently question. But honestly, middle management roles like these tend to just be the fluff between upper and lower management to shift blame and terminate when necessary as well.

      @THETHIRDL2009 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CyberMachine Well actually that's exactly what it is. I am a hiring manager so I can tell you a ghost job is a combination of 2 realities. First is the revolving door of position posting regarding if the position is open or not. The reason this doesn't go away is because you'll always have a stock piles potential candidates at all times. I mean, it's pretty straightforward. 2nd reason is actual positions that don't exist for justification of having a job or using Indeed or other 3rd party apps....it isn't free to use those apps. Think about it... who is largely getting fired and laid off??

    I most people should understand that college is not a place to have "fun", it is a place to network and get an education. Every students should look for internships and connections while in college. If you can have "fun" and get the "college experience" good for you those are extra perks. But, what matters the most is how good of a life you get after college and not during college. Like common do you want 4 years of fun, then a life of misery or the opposite ? Pick the right major, make connections with your profs, go to career fair for internships, join on campus association that would help you improve yourself. College is not cheap, so make it worth it ( in my case, I'm thankful for the scholarships I'm receiving, but all that came through making connections and some sacrifices. Electrical Engineering is no joke lol.) Good luck to everyone!

      Cap. Mech engineers at at mid level experience don't usually make 200k unless in high cost of living areas. I graduated earlier this as a mechanical engineer and I only make 85k at 23. I had the misconception that engineers made 100k starting but I only know a few people who graduated with me that make that, and they either live in Seattle/LA or they pivoted into consulting or tech
      If I had went to trade school instead of college, I would have already graduated and had a few years of work experience by now. From what I hear, in some fields even those with few years of work experience make over 100k.
      I dont hate the job I have (it is better than being unemployed and not paying bills) but it doesnt pay all that well and I'm bored at a desk all day.
      All because I could sit quietly and did well in math and science, I was pushed to do engineering over "blue-collar" work, being told they are paid less, what a lie.
      I would not recommend engineering in most cases to people who like making things and learning the science of how stuff works. The technicians jobs are way more interesting and the pay is almost the same anyways

      @@mollystrong523 Perhaps, but over the long term you will likely end up out earning them (or at least having the real potential to do so). It's a long game.
      Entry pay isn't as important as long-term potential, but that's often something that young people fail to grasp. It's not what you make in your early 20's, it's what you make 10-15 years later.
      In the meantime earning higher than the median household income at 23 still isn't too shabby.

    the re should be a law that degrees is equal job experience. At the same time degrees should give real business experience, such as data analyses, finance analysis using all new technologies etc. Not just bullshit theoretically information.

    Any debt is just a mortgage on your future earnings. College debt is the worst. Corporate America monetized the education system during the Dubya Bush administration. This is how you become a wage slave and never be able to acquire wealth.
    You DO need to learn a skill that will provide you with a livelihood all your life. You will need multiple skills in different fields, so you can switch between industries as the economy shifts. Vocational training is whats needed in this country today.
    College was a key to success in the past, that was because not everyone had one. It had greater value then. When everyone has one, it's not worth much.
