    One of the things that has helped reduce my anxiety is taking a bicycle touring e-course from an experienced bicycle tourer, dietitian who works at a bike shop.... She gives some great advice. Really helped me. 😁

      Ahahaha you are too sweet Mark. I was so surprised when I found that I was more anxious about this trip than any other I've done. But when I took my own advice for how to deal with fear it really helped 😂😂😂 I'm glad you found the course helpful, that means so much :)

    Thank you!

      Thank you so much for this lovely message. It was my hope in being open with my struggles in this video that others might know they aren't alone, and it means so much to know that it might have been helpful. Thank you for sharing that.

Thank you for taking us all along your adventures whether good or bad we all love and learn from your experiences.(anxiety is a burden that we all carry on our shoulders however, I’m sure I saw it fall off yours along the trail somewhere.)

    Well done Sheelagh, being Irish we are very proud of Dervla Murphy, she is a legend.

    On a bike trip from DC to Indiana I had horrible anxiety. After about 35 miles on the C&O Canal towpath, I stopped. Out loud, I gave myself a lecture. “If something goes wrong, you’ll deal with it then. In the meantime, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, the bike is rolling flawlessly. You’re on vacation! Enjoy this!!!”
    It worked. And things did go wrong. I dealt with them. No big deal. I had a great trip.

    Thank you for this video. I always have awful pre-trip jitters to the point that I almost talk myself out of every solo trip I plan. But I just keep going anyway and proving to myself that it always works out in the end. I doubt the anxiety will ever go away. But it always ends up being worth it. The way you articulated your experience made me feel less alone in that!

The first day I ride only 30 km and got my first night with a tent near forest...I also have fear and anxiety when I start something, and I hope that next year I will be finally capable of bike-touring

    Resonated alot with this. I dont do big trips, but have trouble sleeping in a tent, which kinda puts me off going every time! Can count on one hand the number of good nights sleep I've had over last few 6 or 7 short trips (week long and weekenders). Have high quality camping gear, in fact same tent as you, even use ear plugs - yeah nah still can't sleep! Poor sleep really affects my riding the next day, usually totally shattered making the experience less than ideal! Any tips appreciated!

    • @SheelaghDaly
      @SheelaghDaly  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ooof I've been there! I did actually make a video about how to get a better sleep camping which I'll share here: th-cam.com/video/hrq-8PMqyYc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EuIf7526kgsnAQAs If it's fear that's keeping you up (as it often is for me!) I try to remind myself of the unlikeliness that someone will actually find me or try to bother me. And that at that very moment there are other bicycle travellers all over the world who are also perfectly safe in their tents even if they're a little spooked. Basically, I try to reason with myself that there are actually so many situations in life that I'm actually in more danger, and although bad luck can happen, chances are I'm actually perfectly okay inside my tent. I also keep something I feel I could defend myself with nearby just for my peace of mind. I hope that helps a little. You've got this!
