    I can count on one hand how many times I shot animals over 25 yards with my "claimed" 300 fps Horton Hunter xbow I retired a few years ago that i used since 97'. I always waited till they were spitting distance close so I didn't have to worry about drops. I did use the drops in the factory supplied optic. I was spot on out to 60 yards. Never had a range finder back in the day so it was always a guessing game...that I didn't want to play...so I always waited for an easy close, humane, shot.

      I forgot to mention that after a few high shot placements when I first got started with a crossbow that I now zero my crossbow in out my treestand at 25 yards vs the old school way was to sight it in on the ground. I'd always hit a good 3 to 4 inches high at close range when sighting in on the ground. Way easier to just point and shoot vs having to figured out for tree stand elevation POA because I sighted in on the ground. I just bought an R10 and will sight it in out my tree stand as well.

    Excellent video again. Buddy and me shot at a deer at 20 meters, he shot and the arrow flew right over the deer.
    Luckily my trail cam recorded the shot and both of us were shocked by how quickly that deer dropped.
    Got a deer later with a SKS but this year is crossbow time.

    Thats why I gave up my Excalibur Exocet 200 if you are off by 5 yards estimating distance could be 3" diffrence in POI could mean wounding a deer. You tell people the benefits of a flat shooting quicker bow and they don't get it good video.

    I have a regular bog pod but I think I’m going to get the death grip head for it, I could use it for my rifle too. Knowing your yardage to target is of vital importance with archery gear of any kind, even more so when your target can duck an arrow at 30 yards.

    I have 2 Bushnell rangefinders. The "Broadhead" and the "Legend 1200"and they have a 2 yrd difference between them. I usually use the "Broadhead" when I hunt because it's accurate up to 3 tenths of a yrd. It doesn't seem like a big difference until you do what you did in this video. 2 yards isn't 2 yards. It's 6 feet. Which to me is the difference between hit and miss. Thanks for the video. I'm glad you included this subject in your content. Keep it coming and "ALL HAIL BUNGIE"

      "2 yards isn't 2 yards. It's 6 feet." I guess I missed that class in school or didn't understand what you were implying. But, 2 yards = 2 x 36" = 72", and 6 x 12" = 72", when does 72" not equal 72"? Did math or imperial measurements change and I missed the memo? If you are referring to the differences between the 2 rangefinders maybe should have stated it in a way that addresses the calibration or quality between the 2.

    • @michaelcurtis8114

      1 yard equals 3 feet. 2 yards equals 6 feet. I think you misread my comment. I indeed stated that I was implying the difference between the two range finders. The difference between the two range finders is 6 feet.

    The crossbow I have is 22 years old I believe? Dad bought it new and may have shot it a dozen times. When he passed, i found it in a case, and it looks brand new. I shot it this spring and it seems clunky and slow, the arrow drop from 20 yards to 30 yards is dramatic. Much much more than my compound bow (which is about 12 years old). Still plan on taking the crossbow to the hunting shack the 2nd week of September when crossbow opens here. Ill just move the corn 😂. (Legal in my state)

    Who makes Jimmy Big Time target? I have a deer target that I shot a field point) with my Sub 1 Lite a yr ago into the removable section of the deer. It was impossible to get the two arrows out. My husband had to use a Saws All to cut the foam to remove the arrows. Needless to say I’ve not shot that target anymore. Yrs ago I had a Reinhardt deer I used with my vertical bow and the arrows came out easily. Thanks

    I was gonna upgrade my old barnett quad 400 to an Excalibur, but i have 2 of them so maybe i should just keep them amd keep killing. One of them has quad edge s limbs because Barnett replaced them under warranty. The other one was my dads and is stock. He doesnt hunt anymore. Thanks for the videos and saving me money! I think im just gonna upgrade the scope on the good one to a hawk with the speed ring and put the hawk scope thats on it that doesnt have the ring on the stocker.

    I think elevation is a factor in your equation. My range finder and many on the market show you the yardage with angle. Shooting from the ground and elevated is different. At longer range even with a rifle. Good video 👍

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah at that elevation it makes almost no difference. My Rangefinder does that also, and so does the scope. The Burris Oracle X scope takes angle into elevation, in addition to distance. But definitely be mindful of that!

    Good one Rich. Do you always shoot low for deer jumping string (at what yardage) with OG?

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tried to adjust my aiming point over the years, but with that older slower crossbow there is a lot of difference not just in the arrow elevation but also in the deer's ability to duck the string at those different distances. The new scope really helps with that!

    Acceleration due to gravity is a function of the square of the time. So it's a curve that gets steeper the longer it goes. Air resistance might play a small part in increasing flight time of an arrow, which would only serve to make the drop even more dramatic near the end of flight. That is why you see an arc that gets steeper the farther the arrow goes. It's not a function of how far the arrow travels....but of how long it is in the air, subjected to gravity.....which is of course affected by distance to target and arrow speed coming out of the xbow.

    How easy is that tripod to move for small adjustments when the deer is moving?

    • @Hammerback0
      @Hammerback0 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a "Bog" tripod that is easy to adjust in such a situation. Just dont tighten the knob to "lockdown" tightness and you have plenty of movement all while staying very steady and stable.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  ปีที่แล้ว

      The only time I use a tripod while hunting is if I'm in a blind or hunting from the ground. Then, it is usually the Caldwell Deadshot field pod. Limited movement but then again I'm only shooting forward in those situations.

  • @matthewwichtner2935
    @matthewwichtner2935 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep, that's about right. (Rich)... I'm not using all them fancy statistics that you are. I walk mine off because, that's what I do in the field, to set up my marking distances. And that's how I sited in my crossbow scope. (Every long step is 3 yards, example). I've been experimenting while practicing, with the 20 and 30 yd shot. Thought I could use the three dots on my scope. But found out, using my top dot, which should be 20 yards, was low. So I've been shooting in between the top and middle dot, on my scope. Which seems to consistently put me dead nuts. At 20 yards that is. If I use the 30 yd, middle dot, at a 20 yd shot, I'm approximately 3 in or so, high. Now at 30 yards, the middle dot on the scope is dead nuts on. Go figure. But I guess as long as I know, because of practice, it's all good! You probably didn't need to hear all this but I told you anyways!😂
    Who knows, maybe it'll get you thinking and there's a future video in there somewhere!😊
