Rich, I agree with many others in the comments. You put out great video content exploring the processes and products available in the crossbow world. You are like the"Consumer Reports" of the crossbow community! Thank you for your commitment and time put into your channel!
Hi Rich, I love my Ravin R10!!! When I was sixteen years old I had a severe stroke. Which gave with minimum use of my right arm and hand. I am 46 years old and love deer hunting. Keep on making those awesome videos.
Rich, the main thing that comes to mind is”Live and Learn!” Just like you have said before is that improvement comes with innovation. I believe in your case is that you have a comfort zone with your previous equipment and maybe you should be true to yourself and your preferences and get rid of the Ravin and continue to use the Swat, the slick black Cadillac and Bunjie! Have fun exploring those crossbows and hunting with them. That is what having hobbies is for, enjoyment! Listen to Genievives advice; “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
I been shooting excalibur for 10 years ,never has giving me an issue,it’s not the fastest out there but it works for me,I really enjoy your videos, thank you
Thank you for an Honest review and sharing issues with a Ravin crossbow "Ravin uses many parts made in China"... You are not alone, in my neck of the woods at local archery shops you will find many used Ravins for sale. As you know, I have been using a compound bow since 1983. Like you, in 2010 I was introduced to the crossbow world. I wanted a crossbow that was as close to a compound as possible "less is More". I bought an Ibex by Excalibur. Yes, it was slow, loud and wide. Fast-forward to 2022. I purchased a Tenpoint Turbo M1. The Tenpoint is quit, fast, very small and made 100% in Ohio. I love it so much, last season i never used my compound! Sadly, I would ditch that thing before it gets worse and buy a Tenpoint that shots 400/450fps. Trust me
I wouldnt give up on the Ravin. The "big bang bows" are definitely on another level for everything, strings, cabels, arrows , nocks...everything and that just takes a longer learning curve. Im not a fan boy of any xbow manufacturer, but i do know something about manufacturing, and there are thousands of those R29 out there, and people are pleased with them. The loudness you become more comfortable with the more you shoot it. Good luck.
I just bought the TenPoint Viper S415 Crossbow Package with ACUSlide.I must use their bolts as well..Their lighted nocks are way easier to turn off.Wyvern creation has zombie slayers with Tenpoint lighted nocks.Placed an order today.Great video Rich.
Have 2 close friends who are Ravin shooters, wonderfully engineered bows but the fact that you have no choice in arrows is what’s kept me from getting 1… My Aculeus might be a few inches wider but it’s just as fast & just as accurate as their Ravins + arrow choices abound. Good luck Rich & as always love the content!
I have two micros, and both are broken. The scope won't light on one, and the anti dry fire spring broke on the other. At least they have a lifetime warranty. Lol
Noisy? NO. SPEED ISN'T everything only when you don't got it. My R500 is my favorite bow out of 4 crossbows I own. All from different manufacturers. My Ravin is way quieter than my 10pt RS470 and my Excalibur Matrix mega 405. My Scorpyd SLP 165 is easily my most quiet bow I own. Ravin is just a bit behind her for sound. The R29x is a fantastic bow.
@@georgekershner6626 hardly. I purchased a micro 380 last year for a backup to my micro 360 that I purchased in 2020. I've gone through two sets of limbs on the 360, while shooting factory recommended bolts and broadheads. Last year I started building up heavier bolts and haven't had an issue with a cracked limb yet. And as for the tact 100 scope, this will be it's second time back to Port Huron for repairs. Why the anti dry fire spring broke on the 380 is beyond me. I love the simplicity and design of these crossbows, how the reliability is less than to be desired.
I enjoy your videos very much. I am a Ravin crossbow owner. R10 and R26. Love them both. Most others try and copy. Way back I had issues with my R10. Pulley froze snapped string , fractured limb. One THING ABOUT RAVIN! THEY STAND BY THERE PRODUCT! And received new front end of bow asap! Any problems they FIX. FREE AND SHIPPING! Some will say the price etc. BOTH BOWS 50 60 yds pass through on the deer. ACCURATE AND LIKE YOU I USE SWAKER BROADHEADS. AWESOME BROADHEADS. AT FIRST YOU MAY FLINCH BUT ONCE THOSE BOLTS HIT THAT BULLSEYE, YOU WILL BE BACK ON TRACK. I LOVE MY BURRIS SCOPE , ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. LOST FAB OR CONTROLLER. THEY REPLACED FREE AND SHIPPING. ONCE I BOUGHT MY RAVIN FRIENDS AND FAMILY BOUGHT THEM TO. GREAT PRODUCT. USE THERE BOLTS. THEY SHOOT GREAT. HEAR THE SNAP GOOD TO GO. I HAVE 003, and 001. They don’t break just like the SWAKERS. DONT GIVE UP ON YOUR RAVIN.
I think it'll all work out in the end, as with your buddy who has one, the penetration even with the 400 grain arrow is just wow, the as advertised (plus) speed vs. deer reaction time is just wow, I'm still jealous sir. -W. Liggett
Funny thing is I bought the Tenpoint RS 470 back in 2020 as I turned 50 and it was by birthday present to myself. Tenpoint had not added the aluminum bushing to their arrows at that time and I had alot of issues. The bow blew the string three times and with repeated calls to Tenpoint they finally replaced the bow which was not the issue. inspecting the arrows the bow was actually shoving the nock into the shaft when the bow blew. Tenpoint did take care of me but never would say the arrow was the issue, but told me to start using the arrows with the aluminum insert. As an engineer it was not hard to figure out that they put that bow out before fully testing.
@@Deathbybunjie Thankfully since I had my issue I have not had any further issues. Ten Point has been rock solid for me and the Burris Oracle X scope of course. :)
This is what makes the channel fun. I'll never buy a compound crossbow, I think. But I love watching your pursuit for speed. I, however, prize reliability and ease of maintenance above all else. Now that the Rev X is available, maybe I can have both. It would be great if you could get your hands on one for a review.
@hoosier I understand your thinking on this. The truth is that compound crossbows are part of the way forward with crossbow technology. There are presses available for maintenance needs that make things manageable.
The Ravin nock functions like a capture nock as well and controls the position of the arrow on the string. Their nock is also supposed to allow the anti dry fire system to function properly.
Sorry OEA, BBBOOOIIINNNGGG!!! has 3 exclamation points. It is louder than you have listed. Don't ask me how I know........and it isn't because I was the 3rd grade class spelling champion.
Hi Rich, get yourself some good electronic earmuffs or electronic earplugs. There are several good brands. You can hear normally or even enhanced, but they block loud sounds. I recommend you use electronic or standard ear plugs to stop the flinch. All hearing damage is cumulative. If your ears ring, they are being damaged. Good luck and let us know how things go. I used to have a shotgun flinch. Took a long time to retrain.
I've got a Ravin R5X and my 11yr old son and I get disappointed when we don't hit the same arrow hole in the target. It is so accurate we have become target nerds! Thank you (from England).
I appreciate what Ravin has done for the sport and the innovations that it has achieved. I see it as a good product for target shooting and fun at the range but not my favorite choice for hunting. My ten point shoots 390 fps with 410 grains and that is plenty for what I do. I would consider going to 450 fps, but only if I can shoot it first.
Rich, I have a buddy that has had an archery shop for years and is now a regional rep for a major manufacturer. He told me that Ravins are the most problematic of all the crossbows with Excalibur being the least. It stands to reason that the more complicated and higher performance, the more it’s prone to problems.
@@scubajeeper1 it’s because they use the cheapest parts possible to have the costs down. That is unfortunately their problem. Their crossbows can not handle being used that’s why they tell you without directly telling you to only do 5 shots a year because after 5 years that’s 25 shots and now the warranty is up with no problems. Now you pay for all the problems that will come lol. I would also like to point out they are the only crossbows that jam and have videos to try and walk you through the jam, as well as the only crossbows to explode in a case. Do not have them cocked for longer than you need they can not handle that either.
Was on the fence with crossbows until this year. A local store had a Killer Instinct Vital X 430 crossbow package for $499. Fully understanding that this was deemed an entry level bow, I picked one up solely based on the price. Shoots about 420 FPS on the chrono and is super accurate.
I'm new to crossbows, but one thing I know is having confidence in the equipment we use. I would sell the raven, and try another brand that has similar speed. I believe you will overcome the flinching, by using the crossbows you have confidence in. You may have to mentally talk yourself through your shots at first again, but with practice you will create the right habits again to hit your target without flinching.
Good vid, liked and subbed. I shoot an R10X pushing 428 fps and have had zero issues. I was surprised it shoots 8 fps over spec but it’s held pretty steady at that fps over both of my chrono’s…occasionally it’ll register 425-427 fps. Was considering getting an R29X as well, but it may be a little short for me…they need to make an R33X at 33” length that’ll push 450 fps. Lol
FYI the stock nocks will chew up your string each time you snap it on, every time you snap that on your string, you will change the diameter each time. I’ve owned a ravin going on 4 years. I have custom arrows with firenock and those ones actually function like they’re supposed to and they don’t chew up my string
I've never owned an R5/10, but I went in the store to buy one, but walked out with the R29. I spend most of my time in trees, so it fits my style of hunting well.
Wow, I thought I was going to have to go buy a Ravin tomorrow. Thanks for your honest review. I will probably wait another year now. More arrows should become available. Having a second crossbow for special hunting trip isn’t a bad backup plan. Not having a lighted nock is a super big let down. Keep up the great videos!
Rich, i have an R10 and of course, i have to use Ravin bolts. I buy the plain bolts and the Ravin lighted nocks and put them in myself. It's pretty easy and have had good luck with them.
Rich, sorry to hear things are not working out for you. On the other hand, you may have helped other shooters avoid the expensive mistake of going down the same path. Sadly, sometimes, you don't know how things "fit" until you live with it for a time. I noticed at the local shop the 29X was noisy, easy to tell while shooting in an indoor range. When I decided to go "faster" than my KI X1, I opted for the TenPoint TX440. The TX440 is among the quietest crossbows I have shot. You can shoot other arrows in the TX440, you just have to use the HPX nock. I haven't tried lighted nocks in the TX440. When I want to use a lighted system, I just switch back to the X1. A friend has had good luck with lighted HPX TenPoint arrows. By the way, I am eagerly waiting for your Safari 92 press videos with your X1. Those should be helpful to lots of shooters using crossbow of similar design and shape.
On my 3rd year deer hunting with my RAVEN R 29X I have killed 4 deer at distances up to 89 yards. I absolutely love the accuracy of this crossbow however they aren’t without their issues thank goodness they have excellent customer service. RAVEN replaced my first R 29X after a rapid deceleration while de cranking. My 2nd R 29X had a limb delamination issue while sighting in my Garmin electronics scope. After contacting customer service on my 4 day trip from AZ TO IND they mailed new limbs to my archery shop in INDIANA RAVIN went above and beyond to get me back in the field for 2023 deer hunt with success. Yes it’s loud but no issues with deer ducking the shot. 4 shots 4 dead deer in 3 years. 👍👊😎
@@marketshare3969 I call bullshit there's so many factors when a deer is that far away shooting it with a crossbow that deer is going to hear that crossbow going off and it sure the hell ain't going to stand there
@@Jerry-xi3zqI don’t drive 1800 miles one way to come home without deer meat at 457 FPS YOU HARDLY CAN SEE THE ARROW - BOLT HIT MAYBE THERE DROPPING DEAD OF Heart attack either way l bring home some darn good white tail meet. Try one before you pass judgement you will be amazed 😮
UPDATE: Anyone on the fence with these crossbows let me say they are the best.. I bought my R29X in may of last yr and the oracle x and sighted in all summer, got it hitting same hole at 65 yds, and so far this yr 6 shots, 6 deer.! My wife shot a deer with it at 40 yds. my longest is 52 yds and the bolt goes thru deer before they can react, which is the way it should be. And also its got about 70 or 80 shots on it and it has been flawless. I've been hunting with bows and crossbows my whole life and its fun again! I'm not a Ravin Fanboy, I've used Barnet crossbows for ever and loved them, but this thing is just amazing! Not to mention I have been hunting since Sep. 15th here in northeast and its been loaded unloaded everyday and sat loaded everyday for hours and not one problem at all, no dead batteries in the oracle x either, same battery since may, maybe I just got lucky?
Tough to leave the X1. Its everything you've ever wanted and worked so perfectly last fall "for you". Sometimes the grass isn't greener. What do you really gain with the switch? Super interesting video and we appreciate the honesty as always!
I have an Excalibur micro 335 ravin r26x ravin r29x all are great bows love shooting all 3 never had any issues with any of them.I am a huge fan of my ravins but I will say I have 100% faith in my Excalibur maybe 95% faith in my ravins when it come to any kind of failure in my stand
Firmly grasp the nok using the arrow puller using your thumb and index finger. I use both hangs. Aggressively whip the arrow up and down and they open up enough to shut off. Ravin has an instructional video showing the process. Piece of cake.
I just zoomed in on the Ravin face replay and besides the ravin face i noticed the crossbow shake and rattle after the shot as well. I can’t wait for a comparison video between all the crossbows. Before you sell it or if you do. Sophie’s choice but with crossbows. You know - picking your favorite child dilema
Tenpoint is kinda similar if you want lighted nocks you have to use the alpha brites and a few years back they made the alpha blaze and it’s really similar to that raven luminock but it’s easily removable, it also has a aluminum bushing for the faster speeds
i have experienced the flinching, from a bad experience with a crossbow. It took a lot of shooting to get comfortable again. But i also am pretty new to crossbows, youll get it back! Dust off bunjie, it tested and proven!
This is why I didn’t end up going with a ten point nitro 505. Being a heavy arrow guy, and an arrow tinkerer, I talked with ten point about shooting heavy arrows out of the 505 and they said it would blow the string. Probably because they don’t make arrows that heavy and wouldn’t have been fire tested. Hence the warranty being voided etc…👎
Trade it in for a Tenpoint. The Tenpoint lighted nock is an easy pull out to turn it off. Tenpoint sells a nock puller for it. Also, Tenpoints aren’t all that loud. I can stay on target and watch my bolt hit its target no problem. Oracle scopes also are adaptable to the Tenpoints due to the scope struts. Just a thought.
Great video I would love to see more videos about the SWAT X1 in the future just got a SWAT X1 and put a Oracle x on it would like to see more videos on your setup and you shooting your x1 :)
Love this channel; been watching since the bolt cutter broadhead days. Your idea of not being brand loyal really hit home with me. I also really like how you’re always evolving. That’s why I was surprised you wouldn’t just evolve past your lumenok. Are you sure all of the other benefits of the new bow don’t outweigh the loss of the lighted nok? Are you being too brand loyal? Maybe you could use the time you use to spend tinkering with arrows to improve something else? Also I miss the original music in videos.
This will be my 3rd season with the ravin r 29x i love it. I have had twobad deploys of mechanical broad heads. This will be the first year i go out with fixed broad heads
You can turn off the factory lighted arrows but it's not pretty. I literally take a pair of pliers and pull it back to shut it off. It mars the knock and it's never the same but it does work. I tend to use the lighted ones sparingly because of that...ie no lighted arrows on morning hunts.
Rich, the secret I have found for shutting off the factory ravin lighted nocks is to put your arrow puller on the end and actually shake it, letting the arrow kind of wobble, and the nock will turn off.
Tenpoint is similar in that they don't specify that you have to use their arrows, but you do have to use their Alpha- series of nocks or it voids the warranty. While I haven't had as much difficulty with them as you're having with the Raven nocks, the new Alpha-blaze lighted nocks are much tighter in the aluminum bushings than the older Alpha-brite lighted nocks with their plastic bushings. I've switched back to my older arrows with Alpha-brites, and am much happier for it. That said my Wicked Ridge Raider 400 is still only a 400fps crossbow. I don't know how the plastic bushings hold up to a 450-500+ fps crossbow.
One of the lighted nock companies just recently came out with a lighted nock for Ravins. Also there is an aluminum aftermarket lighted nock available for the R500, it might work on the other Ravins too. I would say that with time it will grow on you more. Maybe you would like the R29 or R10X better. Good luck either way
I have used the arrows without the metal sleeve with my early model R10. I’ve found the lighted nocks have worked well for me. Never lost an arrow. The crossbows producing super speeds at 450 fps or more are a different animal. The original crossbow designs of Ravin from the original designers include the R9, R15, R20 and finally the R10. After that the original developers sold out. Quality control has changed.
I absolutely love my R26! Maybe the push for speed in the X series is pushing the limit to hard. My R26 is deadly accurate and is easy to hold on a deer for long periods of time when needed since it’s lighter and a smaller frame. I agree they are a bit loud, but I don’t have issues flinching with the r26. I do not shoot Ravin arrows, I build my own from zombie slayers, a black eagle aluminum nock insert and Burt coyote luminok. They work fantastic and they extinguish easily. I agree there are probably quieter and less maintenance bow out there but I can’t imagine hunting with another. Just my humble opinion with a sample size of 1, lol Hope you get it figured out!
I just got the ravin r5x on eBay ( guy at the local bow shop wasn’t happy cause I didn’t buy a ravin from him , problem with that is he only had old r 10 ‘s and he wanted more$ that the one I got with the upgraded crank ) I have been hunting previous with a bulldog 400 Excalibur, so far I am liking the ravin a lot , almost got the r29x
Rich, I don't own a Ravin and don't expect that I ever will for several reasons: The cams and parts are to elite/light. They don't make a reverse draw, bolts have limitations such as the use of lighted knocks. Look at almost any TenPoint (I have the TRX-515), the parts, cams and such are built very well and the crossbow is very smooth shooting and quiet (my 150 grain Shawackers with my TenPoint arrows weigh 498.8 grains) Chronograph at 463 fps.
Check out the ten point alpha blaze nocks they also require the aluminum bushing and are designed for the higher speeds and kinetic energy. May be suitable for ravin.
I've always thought that to be true as well and where most of mine are. Too slow and too fast are both a thing and present issues. You don't want them to jump the string but you also don't want a crossbow so fast and overpowered it self destructs upon shooting it with very few shots in between major repairs.
thanks for a great video , to the point the noise for me would be the sale breaker at least for a hunting bow noise = speed not sure if it is a game changer , then the arrow handcuffs, no experiment's just married to Ravin thanks for your opinion Rich goes a long way with me and I'm sure a lot of your followers
I can't believe you went away from the enforcer. For me, the X1 is the best shooting most accurate crossbow ive ever shot. That would include Tenpoint, Scorpyd, Barnett, and a few others. Admittedly I've never shot any Ravins. Good luck with it!
I made it very clear that I have not gone away from the Enforcer whatsoever, I got this crossbow so I could test higher speeds and I don't even know if I ever plan to hunt with it, time will tell, we will find out together.
That was the equivalent of a dry fire when that arrow blew up.... I would be very uneasy about a ravin, the early ones blew up pretty often. Actually surprised the bow stayed together. Short power stroke bows that launch heavy arrows at high speed inherently have this trait. Longer power stroke bows typically get the higher speeds with lower poundage limbs because the arrow acceleration is slower. That results in less perceived recoil, noise and lower lb limbs to achieve similar speeds. Hard to beat a scorpyd fir those reasons.
Loving the Latest Book "The Death by Bunjie Method", archery season opens in a few weeks here in east Texas, getting me pumped up for it!!! The first was great, but the second is even better. Big audible fan. Bigger Rich fan! Keep it all coming!!!
I don't like the fact that when you are cranking or un-cranking the crossbow you can't stop without letting off the little switch on the butt-stock. I had one and my hand slipped off of the crank handle by the time i let up on the switch that handle probably spun around 5 or 6 times and hit the stock and broke it, and hit the scope and dented it, and hit my finger and ended up losing my finger nail.
x100 on this. As a new-ish crossbow hunter (heading into my 3rd season), am super happy I accidentally landed on tenpoint for my first bow. I own 3 now, they all have names, and I love them all. 👍
I to love tinkering and building my own arrows ( bolts ) , if this is the case then I would definitely reconsider , Ravin is high quality and speed awesome crossbow but ... having to only use there bolts (arrows) is almost a deal breaker as there are to many other brands on the market ,just my opinion .
Sounds like a case of the old adage: If it ain't broke (eg. OB, Scorpyd, SWAT) the fix it till it is (Ravin). LOL. Maybe the search for perfection is the enemy of good enough, Rich? As always, and entertaining xbow vid, so thanks!
My new ten point 380 is deadly accurate and way faster than my old Barnet, but I am not comfortable hunting with it yet, so my trusty Barnet is still my go to for whitetails season which opens here in NJ next Saturday.
The higher power crossbows always have more problems. I’ll stick to my Barnett assault 350. It’s been holding up good for a few years now and I’m hoping for many more. Super light weight as well.
I expect you've had ads show up already. But just in case, check out raised hunting lighted nocks. Replaceable battery and a literal switch that you can flip on and off. If it seems to be having problems, try screwing the battery in or out a little to get the spacing right.
I used Black Eagle Zombie Slayer arrows and glued my own bushing in (watch Zooma Concepts) and twisted the Ravin Luminated nocks while pushing them in. Twist with the nock tool and they turn off.
Do to ruptured tricep tendon now in both arms I'm forced to a crossbow. My wife got me a r29x. I had no idea a crossbow could be this fast and accurate. It is loud but i don't think that is going to matter with the fps and accuracy. + its very narrow . Surgery on my right arm now next week, hope to be healed enough to hunt wth it this season 🙏 GOD BLESS and happy hunting
My new Tenpoint is the same way. I am just using Tenpoint arrows also. But I have been happy with the nocks and the illuminated nocks they sell. But they are pricy! And I congratulate you on not using words that are not appropriate for TH-cam when you’re new bow came apart! I would not have been able to do that 🤐
Hey Rich, I been following your channel for several years, but just subscribed to report my Ravin lighted nock story. 2 years ago with my R29X I had a similar experience, but with an actual Ravin factory lighted nock arrow the XK5, with the bushing. Basically the lighted nock disintegrated during launch. Pieces of the nock hit me around the eye but no serious injuries. The arrow did actually launch and hit the target, but the force of the string bent the bushing forming a sudo nock groove. I did report this to Ravin with no reply. Since then I ONLY shoot solid Ravin non-lighted nocks, which provides me a better peace of mind when pulling that trigger. I miss my lighted nocks, but treasure my health even more. I have pics of the arrow, if you’re interested.
If the lighted nock is similar to the TenPoint alpha nock, you might attempt to remove the tip and get a small diameter steel rod (not a coat hanger). go in through the tip and attempt to push the lighted nock back. Is it possible to switch over to the 10point world with the Alpha nock setup ? I wonder since you've already removed the aluminum bushing if a 10point alpha bushing would work ? sometimes to remove those bushing, you take a can of compressed air and turn it upside down spray into the front and quick freeze the nock to remove it. Just some ideas. Love the Channel Don
Heavier arrows should help with your ringing ears. From my experience with ravins, go 525 grains or more. For your search for nocks, Firenock is the first that comes into my mind. But you have some experience with them, and probably took that thought already into account.
I was looking to buy an r9 or even r10x but after I saw this video I just went and bought a mission sub-1 xr instead. ~370 fps either way realistic hunting weights. Biggest thing for me was that I can tune the speeds down even lower and replace the string myself without a press even though I still use one. I don’t think you need a successor to the OB. You already have the slick black Cadillac 420.
I went ahead and bought a ten point viper 415. Loved the ravin but couldn’t swing the 2k. Really love the crank system on the ten point but what sold me was the scope. Super nice bow….. would I trade it for a 29x? Yeah probably
I totally misinterpreted the title. I thought you were going to say "once you've shot the R29X, you'll never want to shoot anything else". I surely got that wrong! Mechanical things break. It's a part of life. I'm thankful that you weren't hurt. I don't enjoy testing new equipment all that much. I leave that up to guys like you. As you continue your search for the "Holy Grail" of crossbows, I wish you the best of luck this season!
Hi Rich. Noise & flinching is a major problem for sure. You might need to invest in a set of AXIL amplified hearing protectors ! They’re real popular with competitive pistol shooters.
If your getting the old flintlock flinch from shooting that raven I would be trading it in for something else that your more comfortable with. I remember years ago Easton used those nock inserts in some of there acc and ASE arrows for Olympic recurves to make the end of the shaft stronger and to hold the nock. I think your speed at 400+ fps is negated by the noise as at a longer distance the deer is going to react to the noise quicker than the arrow can get there.
I have had a 3 Ravin bows over 4 years and never had one issue and have never shot a Ravin arrow off any of them. Just part of the learning curve when dabbling in high end crossbows. One eyed archer can clue you in to how this is done.
Now I can't buy a Raven as much as I'd like to since after watching your videos for so long, I've come to far with arrow weights and trying different types of arrows but most importantly the burt coyote Lumenok is a must have on all my arrows!!
Wow. Kiss system comes to mind. Makes my old Tenpoint HLX look better and better after seeing that Ravin rocket. Sometimes I think things can get too complicated.
What’s the best way to get the lumenok off? Just got my first set of lumenoks (for x bow) after losing a nice buck and not seeing where I hit it last year. I got a dozen zombie slayers and putting lumenoks in em for my deathstalker 420. Wasn’t sure if how to get em out because I had to remove with pliers and it scuffed up the first nock I tried. Also wasn’t sure about glue because lumenok says not to glue them or they won’t work
GrowingDeerTV has some information that shows that when the deer has their head down, they can duck further down. When the deer has their head up they don’t duck as much. Dr. Ed Ashby found that two blade, fixed blade, single bevel broadheads can have better penetration.
What is a good price for a used r29x? Interested in one a guy has at $2k but wasn’t sure if that was too high. Says it has been shot 20 times but of course everyone says that lol.
I have a R10, bought used 2 years ago, came with a dozen arrows. 900.00. No issues. For my 5 lighted arrows, I simply put my gripper, on noc, shake up and down, light goes off. Whats the problem. There video series shows all of this. Using non ravin arrows was stupid.
The speed is nice, I guess. Not sure it’s needed with the Oracle X though. As far as the flinching goes, I think it’s something you could train yourself and get used to the noise. Not sure I would count on using that crossbow this season if it’s messing with your developed shooting habits.
I don’t shoot a ravin I don’t use ravin arrows but I stand by this channel because it’s open opinions and you can’t beat that 100% truth.

The OB and I go back 15 years, I get that 💯 but modern times, no need to live on the past lol. This Ravin might toooo modern though lol
The "big bang bows" are definitely on another level for everything, strings, cabels, arrows
, nocks...everything and that just takes a longer learning curve.
@M14
Interesting. Scorpyd users are an interesting group.
The Scorpyd is a great crossbow. One of the quietest crossbows on the market.
$2K? Proprietary arrows? Noisy? Speed isn’t everything. Sticking with my micro
@@ShooterMcNutUser error or lies
@@georgekershner6626 hardly. I purchased a micro 380 last year for a backup to my micro 360 that I purchased in 2020. I've gone through two sets of limbs on the 360, while shooting factory recommended bolts and broadheads. Last year I started building up heavier bolts and haven't had an issue with a cracked limb yet. And as for the tact 100 scope, this will be it's second time back to Port Huron for repairs. Why the anti dry fire spring broke on the 380 is beyond me. I love the simplicity and design of these crossbows, how the reliability is less than to be desired.
Where can I get just the Burt coyote luminok so I can use them in my zombie slayers? And so I need bushings?
Weird. I am hearing a lot of stories like this since my "incident"
@@Deathbybunjie Thankfully since I had my issue I have not had any further issues. Ten Point has been rock solid for me and the Burris Oracle X scope of course. :)
As a Technician, I'd say most products are sent out untested or bare minimum.
That's what recalls and redesigns are for.......
This is what makes the channel fun. I'll never buy a compound crossbow, I think. But I love watching your pursuit for speed. I, however, prize reliability and ease of maintenance above all else. Now that the Rev X is available, maybe I can have both. It would be great if you could get your hands on one for a review.
@hoosier
I understand your thinking on this.
Well now we know a Ravin blowing a string sounds like one of those spring loaded door stoppers I used to play with as a kid. BBBOOOIIINNNGGG! 😮

Chasing that speed comes with lots of issues that’s what I like my Excaliburs so much. 😊
Chasing speed was created by the creators. Keep the money pipeline flowing.
I've got a Ravin R5X and my 11yr old son and I get disappointed when we don't hit the same arrow hole in the target. It is so accurate we have become target nerds! Thank you (from England).
Same here!
Unless you are shooting rats, being able to hit the same hole is meaningless anyway.
@@MyScottyboy1 r5x here as well. She's a monster
@acemurphy2 Is it, though?
I'm fairly certain you just read first-hand account(s) of people explaining it, in fact, holds significant value.
Same here bro!!
You’ve been spoiling us Rich with all the content lately! 😁 🙌
I really like that one, good luck!
Be careful with that thing Rich! Love the Videos!
Sorry you're having trouble with your new ravin. Really hope you end up really enjoying it. Been thinking about upgrading my r5x to the r29x
Everyone is different. His buddy( backyard broadheads) absolutely loves his R29 , and I have loved everything about mine for 5 years now.
Rich, i have an R10 and of course, i have to use Ravin bolts. I buy the plain bolts and the Ravin lighted nocks and put them in myself. It's pretty easy and have had good luck with them.
There's too much energy in this crossbow though to use anything that doesn't have that extra reinforcement I think
I’ve commented plenty of times on your video saying those lighted nocks that are stock are junk I switched over to firenock and have been very pleased
UPDATE:
Anyone on the fence with these crossbows let me say they are the best..

Firmly grasp the nok using the arrow puller using your thumb and index finger. I use both hangs. Aggressively whip the arrow up and down and they open up enough to shut off. Ravin has an instructional video showing the process. Piece of cake.
If I can't pull them out with pliers, I can't see how that's going to work. And I did try that, I have both pullers.
😄
Tenpoint is kinda similar if you want lighted nocks you have to use the alpha brites and a few years back they made the alpha blaze and it’s really similar to that raven luminock but it’s easily removable, it also has a aluminum bushing for the faster speeds
At least the alpha-nock let's you pull the battery out and turn them on and off.
i have experienced the flinching, from a bad experience with a crossbow.
Did a bunch of them last fall, I am sure there will be more, but make sure you check out those ones.
Maybe you could invent an infrared emitting nok that is highly visible through your oracle scope
You and I think alike, I've been thinking a lot about exactly this in the past few days
@@Deathbybunjiedeath by infrared
This will be my 3rd season with the ravin r 29x i love it. I have had twobad deploys of mechanical broad heads. This will be the first year i go out with fixed broad heads
You can turn off the factory lighted arrows but it's not pretty. I literally take a pair of pliers and pull it back to shut it off. It mars the knock and it's never the same but it does work.
I tend to use the lighted ones sparingly because of that...ie no lighted arrows on morning hunts.
I did resort to pliers but it pulled the whole bushing out
Yea, you need a couple pair to prevent that from happening :(
Rich, the secret I have found for shutting off the factory ravin lighted nocks is to put your arrow puller on the end and actually shake it, letting the arrow kind of wobble, and the nock will turn off.
Tried it. Will revisit but we'll see.
Just my humble opinion with a sample size of 1, lol
Hope you get it figured out!
Seems like to me the mid 3 50s to 4 30s might be the sweet spot. Is far the current Technology of crossbows
Hard to argue with that!

That SWAT X1 is a creative and quality design that has impressed a lot of people!
Thank you for this and good luck!
When you crank any of the Ravins to cock it you can absolutely stop and it WILL NOT unwind
I don't think that happens with this model
Glad I bought a Ten point
It’s my belief if you stick with crossbows eventually you’ll end up with a Tenpoint.

@@Deathbybunjie I have the r 10. I want just the lighted nocks from Burt coyote. I don’t wanna buy 3 arrows for 100 bucks
Very good points here
This is the Perfect time to do a video. Lighted Nocks for Crossbows
My new ten point 380 is deadly accurate and way faster than my old Barnet, but I am not comfortable hunting with it yet, so my trusty Barnet is still my go to for whitetails season which opens here in NJ next Saturday.
Sounds like a good plan, good luck
Good video, think I will be sticking with swat x 1 but I am trying a flat lumenoks.
Keep an eye on your center serving using a flat nock. I tried them and saw wear quickly. The GTC lumenok is a better choice IMO.
Thanks
Do to ruptured tricep tendon now in both arms I'm forced to a crossbow. My wife got me a r29x. I had no idea a crossbow could be this fast and accurate.
I don't doubt that one bit. A piece of something hit me in the forehead. I'm still debating what is next and I really appreciate your feedback.
Love the Channel
Don
Interesting for sure we'll see!
Heavier arrows should help with your ringing ears. From my experience with ravins, go 525 grains or more.
For your search for nocks, Firenock is the first that comes into my mind. But you have some experience with them, and probably took that thought already into account.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." All hail Bunjie!
I'm a swat x1 guy 💯 these days
I’d get rid of it if you can’t do what you like to do with the arrows. Hope nobody was hurt when it blew apart.
I went ahead and bought a ten point viper 415. Loved the ravin but couldn’t swing the 2k. Really love the crank system on the ten point but what sold me was the scope. Super nice bow….. would I trade it for a 29x? Yeah probably
Thank you for doing my homework!
Believe it or not I've never been big on testing new equipment either, it's kind of weird because I find myself doing it anyway
You could probably source some of the aluminum inserts to build some arrows if you wanted to but if it’s just not comfortable to shoot use what is
Hi Rich. Noise & flinching is a major problem for sure. You might need to invest in a set of AXIL amplified hearing protectors ! They’re real popular with competitive pistol shooters.
I shouldn't have to do that with a crossbow LOL
I think you should wear earplugs or comtacs when shooting that crossbow, and make it exclusively a long range hunting/trophy crossbow.
His advice was...don't 😆
Now I can't buy a Raven as much as I'd like to since after watching your videos for so long, I've come to far with arrow weights and trying different types of arrows but most importantly the burt coyote Lumenok is a must have on all my arrows!!
Thanks for all the content. " all hail Rich"😀
😊
Wow. Kiss system comes to mind. Makes my old Tenpoint HLX look better and better after seeing that Ravin rocket. Sometimes I think things can get too complicated.
I get that but I also think that crank system is pretty sweet. Way simpler in operation compared to other ones that I've used.

All good stuff
What is a good price for a used r29x? Interested in one a guy has at $2k but wasn’t sure if that was too high. Says it has been shot 20 times but of course everyone says that lol.
I am no expert but that sounds like a fair price
I have a R10, bought used 2 years ago, came with a dozen arrows. 900.00. No issues. For my 5 lighted arrows, I simply put my gripper, on noc, shake up and down, light goes off. Whats the problem.
There video series shows all of this. Using non ravin arrows was stupid.
Smh
The speed is nice, I guess. Not sure it’s needed with the Oracle X though. As far as the flinching goes, I think it’s something you could train yourself and get used to the noise. Not sure I would count on using that crossbow this season if it’s messing with your developed shooting habits.
Also im so glad you're doing all this research for me, "us"
Have you ever fired a ten point flatline 460? It’s the other crossbow I was looking at and would love your opinion
