  • Within the overwhelming maze that is Chandni Chowk, Ghalib ki Haveli sits with a lightness of being you would associate with the man himself. Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, also known as Mirza Ghalib, channelled all the tragedy that life threw at him into some of the most beautiful Urdu poetry that was always witty, often sardonic, but rarely bitter.
Ghalib ki Haveli in Ballimaran, Chandni Chowk is a Mughal-era structure that is nearly 300 years old. The haveli was gifted to Ghalib by a local hakim Ghulam Mahmood Khan, an ardent admirer of the poet. It is here that Mirza Ghalib spent the last 10 years of his life, before he passed away in February 1869. The haveli has changed several hands since-serving as everything from a home to a wedding hall-before finally being granted heritage status in 1997.
