Some of us have been playing for years, and we know we'll NEVER be a fraction of his level. That doesn't mean we don't love music. In fact, that's part of what keeps us going and loving music all the more for it. Keep going!

It's the point at which your instrument becomes part of you, and the music you make isn't a bunch of notes, it's just your voice speaking in your own language. It's every musician's dream to reach that state

I'm a guy from finland. My love for gospel, entrenched in my love for music in general brought me to this video. There is a universal dialect in play here.
Ludwig Wittgenstein told us we were restricted by the language/culture we adopted. Music is an avenue to true knowledge and expression of soul, I believe.
I will be forever grateful that youtube allows the spread of creativity the way it does.

For my money, what makes Corey Henry the best keyboardist is that he approaches each DIFFERENT keyboard with the touch and skills required for THAT instrument.
When he's on a B3, he uses the drawbars and Leslie to show what makes a B3 unique. See the Stevie cover he did with Nate Townsley and Mike League.
When he's on a Rhodes, he uses it like he's played it all his life.
When he's on a synth, he's constantly tweaking the resonance or delay to speak that language.
    On piano, just listen...
    When

I am 101 keyboardist and have decided to work on playing this Cory version thanks to Timothy Gondola transcription. If you dedicate a diary time I can say that it’s doable. But, after being able to play the first 2 minutes and enjoy ever note, you understand that the bottom line is not play like Cory, but how we was able to created such sophisticated arrangement. Then I started to pay attention to the original song. It’s like a fully different song but the soul is there. I can say that the learning to play this Cory arrangement is a kind of school. Despite the tough challenge, uncountable hours of dedication, it do expands your musical mindset.

I appreciate his skill even more, since watching this.Although he is well known for his synth and organ work , his acoustic piano work is true proof that he put in the effort and time needed to master his instrument. Some players can hide behind the bells and whistles of synths and organs, not so for the piano.

Canteloupe Island: I've just heard this song taken apart in a Quantum Physics lab and reassembled with total love, joy and commitment in the heart of one of the greatest musical artists we may ever know. Imagine being allowed to sit and watch Van Gough or Basquiat painting.

From what I read in the past, both of his parents past away years ago! I am asking everyone in the World who hears him to please surround him with positive nurturing and support. I have never met him, but saw a u-tube of him at 3 or 4 years old. I think both of his parents were living. Where ever they are I feel in my heart they are still with him spiritually. Just listen to him! And keep him held up in pray! African American young men are being crucified and demonized by the media, another trick of the devil to give an excuse to continue killing them! Please, let us stop harming each other! Put down the Guns! The Dope! The Prostitution! Do you not know the Greatness You Spring From? Listen to this young man and Look At God! Arise and turn the guns away from your own! The Greatest Humans who ever walked this Earth .......and Beyond! Respect, Love and Nuture and Support Us! If this young man can come so far, with neither of his parents, God is there for you, too! Even if you do not choose to go to church, with its demonic problems, God is still there for you and your wishes to do good in the world for yourself and the world! Jazz Musicians, Righteous Churches, and the public please support this truly gifted young man, Cory Henry and other gifted youth in America and the world. He could be doing so many other negative things! But Look at God!

So! I just read that someone liked my comments regarding the world taking notice. But he is one of thousands of African American young men and women who are trying to do right by themselves, despite how the world attempts at every opportunity to demonize and even kill them for no reason, except that they are black. Our men have been criminalized and lynched since before Jesus( a black man)was lynched on the cross. His real depiction has been hidden by the Vatican for thousands of years! It must matter that he was black or why hide it! Again, I am pleading for all black, brown, yellow and red people to unite, respect, and work together. There is really only one race anyway. The human race, which science has proven, began in Africa! That's why our black people are the strongest, greatest people that ever walked the earth. Our presents is everywhere, from thousands of years ago. There are signs of that in China, Japan, Mexico, Sweden, all over Europe. Everywhere! Africans were the greatest ship builders who traveled thousands of years before Columbus! And truth be told that is a big lie about Columbus! When whites were still in caves, blacks conquered the world. Europe sat at the feet of Africans and learned math, astronomy, how to create city societies! Everything! If only the masses of blacks knew what greatness our people sprang from. It is not too late to find out and spread the word on what has been since the beginning of time! The first University in the world was opened in Africa in Timbuktu! We must wake up! Love and Honor our own and teach our children the greatness they spring from. The schools have not and will not! That would be too enlightening and too empowering for them to reveal. We must start our own historical society's and educate our people of thier greatness. People that hate us are watching for our demise as they invade the city's to nurture thier own. Stop killing each other! Stop the jealousy, Stop the dope from paralyzing our communities.Teach kids how fun learning is! When fathers are not around, we need righteous uncles, cousins, aunts, brothers and sisters and even non relatives to help teach our children. These kids do not have to be yours to show them you care about thier education and well-being! There is a job to do by every sober minded person to do what they can to discourage the violence and replace it with temperance and understanding! If we overtly make a point at greeting each other with more respectful deeds and conversations of concern even to a stranger, then the world would dare not ever harm us again. I love my black people despite how we are portrayed in the media. Please, starting from every little community in this nation, let us start something all about us and learn how we can help save ourselves from extinction, while the world sits idly by waiting and watching. They don't need any help destroying us! Please replace black on black crime, with black on black love. We can do this, no matter how poor or disfranchised we may be. Love and Concern, especially in your own family! We need uncles, aunts, cousins, everybody to go to the school on report card pick up days to show positive concern on how younger relatives are doing in school. Kids need to see that and know we expect them to do thier best. I would have been thrilled to have had my aunts, uncles, cousins to show some unified family concern about my schooling! Family's support the young mothers and fathers. Even when they may not understand your want to help be a positive part of thier children's lives. You may be a grandfather who did not take care of your own kids! Try to get up and show that for your grandkids. They need it real bad! Work with your young grand daughters, who may be overwhelmed and involve with guys who are no good. You cannot approach them with emotion and criticism, just try to get along with them for the sake of the next generation. That same granddaughter may end up seeing the light and turn away from a no good guy on her own and resume her education. But be there for those baby's who cannot help themselves! Even if you have to keep your distance at times, those kids seeing a little concern whenever possible goes a long, long way. They will remember little positive things for life! Unite and be Free, my People!

This is Shirley McKinney! OMG! I have to tell somebody! 2 weeks after I left my comments on Cory Henry, I happened to find information that Cory Henry and his group The Funk Apostles would be in town! I went to the free concert in Millenium Park! All I can say this young man was everything I hoped and prayed he would grow up to be! I actually got a chance to meet him. He and his group were more than phenomenal. They rocked downtown Chicago Like I have never seen or heard of. There were black people, white people, young and old on one accord. Our city needed the positive he brought. Never saw anything like it! I think I read he will be in Sweden on July 5. The show I say was this past Monday night, June 17th. 6:30-9:30 and people did not want to see him leave after 3 hours of nonstop ultra fantastic showmanship! I thought about his Mom and his Dad, who may have both past away when he was a young child. Thereafter, I think articles said he was raised by his grandmother. Although I never met them or met him before last Monday, I thought about how super proud they are, although they have past to another realm! I sincerely felt a positive aura of protection and power around that stage and the crowd! All I could think was " Look at God, and what he has done! Please World go out and support Cory Henry and what he was born to do for you! I felt a spiritual cleansing coming over the crowd! And after the concert the whole crowd was peaceful and loving! I have never seen or heard if that after concerts in Chicago, which can be very riotous and dangerous. Cory Henry brought something highly unique to Chicago! Judging by the reaction of the crowd, Chicago seriously needed this concert. I hope he comes back soon and I ask the whole world to embrace this young man and his message. Truly Divine!
