Young people today eh? No talent. Relying on technology, autotune etc. Bollocks! I'm 66 and the young 'uns are creating some great stuff. Keep it up Nora!
I can’t stop watching this. Best rendition I’ve ever heard. Her lack of attitude and ego in her youth makes it very thematic, or something. This is very special.
But later, when they have had time to think, they try to find the words to describe what they experienced. And still can't. They can smile inwardly and be happy that they were witness to something extraordinary.
She is so incredibly gifted, not only as a musician, but as a singer-storyteller as well. She can convey the emotions so well. As much as I love hearing the traditional music, I hope we can hear her own musical stories someday. :)
@@samherraghty4448Respectfully, I love this version better even though Lankum's is just as fantastic, just my personal preference. I think this is how the song is *meant* to be played
@@msp2965 I'm Irish and agree this version is just as good as Lankum's. The way the band plays with such delicacy around her voice is wonderful. Lots of talent in this young un.
I've only just discovered Nora tonight, and fallen into the vortex... The best explanation I can come up with is that her banjos are haunted and she is the medium that delivers the messages. Of course the second explanation is that she is just so darn good she blows me away! :-O
I heard a similar comment about Keith Moon of The Who. It went something like this: The drums were sent to Earth by aliens in order to communicate with Keith Moon. Nora Brown has a certain touch. She just keeps getting better.
Wow. What an amazing ensemble - the musicianship is outstanding, Nora is fabulous - the harmonies and the arrangement are out of this world. I was just like the rest of the audience at the end - I was sitting here in stunned silence, unable to recognize that the song had ended. Now THAT'S a performance!
I live in Floyd, Virginia where during the warm months there are dozens of old time bands playing on the street downtown. If you pass around a banjo while sipping jars everyone can play a tune. I pity all of y’all who are just discovering traditional music. It’s alive and well in Appalachia.
How does this not have more views? Incredible music. Close your eyes and you're driving an old rusted truck through misty roads in the Blue Ridge Mountains, thinking of what you used to have, drinking moonshine (when you're done driving, of course).
It's like since Nora first played a note, she has been flying as high as the sky, and the sky seems to be rising higher, higher, and higher. It's like Nora is a unique rainbow of captivating light and it's impossible to take one's eyes off of her as the attraction is wonderfully mesmerizing, intelligent, and brilliant.
Can't wait for the copy of my new album coming in the mail....signed and numbered! Been following Nora for awhile now. She's probably my favorite musician I've discovered in the past few years. She deserves to be heard by more people, for sure.
Just came upon this video for the first time today. Wow! I am truely impressed. I have to admit something about hearing the banjo, I have not really been a big fan of the banjo when played fast (typically in most upbeat bluegrass music), but your playing it in a slow manner, sheds a different perspective in it for me. I enjoyed your singing and the way ypu played the banjo very much on this song! I am a huge fan of folk music though and sadder or minor key songs too as opposed to upbeat songs.
Great performance by all involved, listened to a few versions and nothing hits like this, thanks for sharing, left that audience stunned 😂 took them a bit to come back to earth with the delayed claps at the end. Aye Class to see great talent and especially so young been bingeing your channel most the day, keep doing what u do, sending love from Scotland
A lot of the versions of this song that I've heard have a big focus on the vocalist, but this version's inclusion of the entire band is really great. It's super moody.
Bravo, bravo!! What a toure de force performance. I worried that with that many instruments they would overwhelm the song, but there was perfect restraint everywhere, and so the vulnerability was able to emerge from Nora's capable hands and voice. Fine work, everyone!!!

Well said!
I think you nailed it Walter
Yeah, we've watched this video about 500 times.
Leaves Shirley Collins version in the dust (imho).
what a weird thing to say
So strongly felt that silence at the end. Everyone kind of bathing in this unique moment they just shared. Beauty!
When people are in a room and they are not sure how to react to the greatness they have just witnessed.
But later, when they have had time to think, they try to find the words to describe what they experienced. And still can't. They can smile inwardly and be happy that they were witness to something extraordinary.
That's how I reacted, yes. I had no idea what I had clicked on I came here because Shirley Collins/Davy Graham.
Right? A little bit dumbfounded. It was like the entire room was just suspended in a moment of transcendence.
Nah. They were likely asked to hold off the applause. It was likely being recorded.
Beautiful . Radie peat does a superb rendition of this . Such a haunting song

The old songs belong to all of us.
Still here in 2024
I literally downloaded this song and burned on a compilation CD to listen it while driving
She was so good, the crowd was left spellbound for words...or applause! That's the power of Nora Brown!
Literally stunned silence. How awesome!
Pensive. Heartfelt. And, fittingly, in glorious black and white.
MISS NORA I LIKE YOUR PLAYING AND THE HIGHWAY MEN CORA SONG SINCERELY KING ARTHUR CHUCK

It makes me tears running
I see big things for this girl. No words to describe how good she is.
Speaks to my heart
This might be all time favorite song on the internet.

Me too!!! Fantastic.
zackly, that snakehead sounds so scary good in her hands
“The best explanation I can come up with is that her banjos are haunted and she is the medium that delivers the messages.” Is perfect quote!
Hahaha that must be it. I’ve just fallen down the rabbit hole too. I can’t stop listening to her

Pedal steel brpught it along so nicely..Beautiful Nora you kittle STAR
This Banjo is gorgeous. As when butterfly the wings touches the strings. I love it.
I agree so many times banjos are not held by people with soft hands
Little Nora Brown. Big Nora sound.

This has got to be my favorite rendition of this song

It's the most immersive rendition of this song ever.

I cannot say how beautiful this is. It's a poem.
Wow! Nora never fails to deliver such amazing, heartfelt performances. An already incredible artist on her way to becoming a legend.

thanks Ms Brown... keeping the music alive.... Bravo 👏
So good. Nora has a remarkable amount of soul. Amazed...
Reincarnation or time travel. Nora you possess a musical from another time.
This is dope
Class, far beyond your years...

It's actually an old English folk song, but it translates so well into that Americana sound
Amazing! If anyone could point me to a banjo tab for this I'd be very grateful. can't find one anywhere
Pretty powerful bit of music!
Nicely done. Good job everyone.
Very good. Great voice.
Get a version of this on Spotify!
Everybody needs a hypeman on bass!!! Brilliant rendition ❤❤❤
Beautiful rendition
Amazing song. I feel like the crowd was a bit too stunned to react. Just caught up in the feeling.
I think, since they were recording, the audience was asked to hold their applause until the all clear.
you can see the woman wave her hand to tell the crowd to stay quiet
@@banjodeano2202 ohh. Thanks I didn't notice

Bravissimo
Doesn’t anyone know where I could find a banjo tab, or at least the tuning on this song?
Now I really want to hear Little Nora and Tatiana Hargreaves play together
