These pilots are the best of the best. Living in Vegas, I get to see them practicing at Nellis Air Force base during their off season. I’ve been watching them for the forty plus years, yet I still get goosebumps whenever I watch them.
They're actually a very accurate sampling of all Air Force personnel across the service. They are no better than any other Pilots, demonstrated by the fact that half the team rotates out every season. This "plug and play" changing of pilots supports the notion that all Air Force pilots are top shelf, and that the team is not simply the "best of the best". The team itself is very clear to note that they are no better than any other pilots serving in the AF.
As an Air Force veteran, my heart jumps a beat or three seeing these beauties taxi & lift off like this. I am also a retired airport employee & this makes me miss the place!

I watched these guys practice almost every day from my elementary school, which was a stone's throw from Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas! Every once in a while we'd get a tail waggle or a wing tip as we watched them pass over our school. A fantastic sight and even a better listen! Our whole school would shake when they passed over! My cousin was in the Thunderbirds for 4 yrs, the last 2 yrs being the lead jet for the performances. They came to my city and my aunt was there so we got to sit out on the runway as a family…watched the whole show in awe!
4 years is very long for a Thunderbird tour, and no pilot ever rotates to the lead jet from one of the wingmen. The lead is a command level officer specifically chosen from a field of qualified Col or Lt Col candidate applicants. Their time in command prior to Thunderbird command is very specific. Your facts may be slightly out of alignment.
The one thing I miss the most of my time in the Air Force. The sound of a jet spinning up, then taking off. Plus Williams AFB got the Thunderbirds every other year for our airshow. Something to do with us having had one of the first acrobatic teams, the Acrojets, flying P-80's, from 1948-1953.
As a student pilot doing a cross country with my instructor we landed at Albuquerque and as we were leaving I was told to go to runway & hold. Waited for 5 or more minutes then the Thunderbirds came roaring down, all lifting off at the same time (4 wide). What a thrill!! Then I got to take off after them. Another time was to see my nephew in an air show flying with the "Tacos" out of Albuquerque.

I remember many years ago while working in a 32-story high-rise in San Francisco, the Blue Angels were practicing for Fleet Week and we were watching those beautiful birds as they actually flew BELOW us a couple of times flying towards the Bay! Just "thrilling" doesn't do that justice! Blue skies, pilots! And thank you!

In Houston, we have had 2 F-16s flying around the city for the last two weeks. Not sure why, but I’ve been in meetings and have jumped up and run to see them fly by. Only with employees....thankfully clients are still on the phone...they never notice. I feel exactly the same way though.
Almost all fighter jets have two seater versions. This is how they start the training for new pilots. Once the I P (instructor pilot) clears them, they can begin their single seater training.
Use to watch them practice while attending the NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Nellis AFB is right across the highway from the track. They’d practice overhead most of the morning until the cars came on the track. Free show Friday and Saturday. It was wonderful watching them!
After that lumbering passenger jet, those F16s look like a troupe of dancers coming out on stage. Ballerinas. Very composed, very pretty, very capable.
You know what is the worst, that your job giving us this videos is excellent, but there are always people criticizing something they can’t do. I bet money that whoever is criticizing your work hasn’t even take a picture with a POLAROID camera. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming my friend. Something else , if they don’t like it, why they keep on coming?
Hearing them turbines whine reminds me when I was a child & was allowed on the tarmac amongst these birds. The sound was ear splitting, but I loved it :)
After the T-bird departures, which was awesome and thanks for that, was that PAWA jet a MadDog or an Embraer or something else? Whatever it was, I always love watching them take off because they act like little rockets. Always looks like a pretty high AoA to me, it may not be, but I love the way they look. 😁
Because it is a D model, hence the second seat. 3 of the 12 jets in the squadron are D models. 8 flies a D to show sites ahead of the rest of the team, and will have the crew chief with him for those trips. Same here on departure. As to why #3 was a D model, that seems a bit odd. That makes for some aerodynamic symmetry in the diamond with a D on the right wing, but at this time the diamond was flying very loosely anyway, so likely a non issue.
Pretty good footage of the Thunderbirds. I was wondering, did anyone notice they had no numbers on the rear vertical wing. I remember years ago, they always had big numbers painted on that wing.
It's not called a wing, since a wing produces lift. It's called the vertical stabilizer or tail fin. The Thunderbirds don't use tail numbers on their current aircraft, which were adopted in 1982. The US Navy Blue Angels do, and the Thunderbirds F-4E and T-38A aircraft used from 1969 through 1981 also had tail numbers, inside a circle of 13 stars.
Their numbers are located on the bottom fuselage just after the intake. They're rather small by comparison to the jet itself. Little trivia... jet number 5 has the 5 inverted since the plane is usually inverted most of the time.
I'd love to see the thunderbirds. F-16, right? I've seen the blue angels in A-4's, and F-18's. Heck, i was stationed in Pensacola. 😎 Too young for the F-4's.
Dang! That was awesome, thanks for sharing. Would have loved to had been there to hear, feel and smell them taking off. Great view point and camera work - nice and sharp and in focus.
As a usaf veteran, always liked watching the Falcons, but never understood how four blue angels could take off at one time while Falcons take off single plane at a time?
Different aircraft, different combat mission for the aircraft and the pilots. The Blue Angels have to be prepared for the close quarters takeoff from a carrier while “our” birds had the luxury of being able to have room for error. That’s coming from an EF-111 crew chief. Mine was the only bird in the Air Force with a tail hook and thus the ability to land on the navy’s floating airfields.
I never get tired of watching the Thunderbirds. My son is a 17year veteran of the USAF. He spent4years with the team. I got to see them 4times. A time we will never forget.

Yes, the channel needs to learn to edit.
Beautiful..amazing!! Give me goosebumps just watching the video 🙂👍👍
Great video. Ignore those naysayers.
my sister lived in Las Vegas close to Nellis AFB and she saw the Thunderbirds quite often.
That must have been such a cool treat to see!
Bangalore is 3 bember
Great Camera!! Better than Most I've seen!!...Compliments!!
What a great video
If I could fly a jet, I'd love to fly these, their so perfectly propositioned , other than the raptor, this looks the most agile.
Good video
My all time fav. and heart-pounding sights i have ever encountered... They all are Class Acts. God bless you all.. Peace Shawn k.

I'd love to see the thunderbirds. F-16, right? I've seen the blue angels in A-4's, and F-18's. Heck, i was stationed in Pensacola. 😎 Too young for the F-4's.
Saw the Thunderbirds at Bentwaters UK. Fantastic display and noise. Thanks for the memories.
Me too! 1971-1973
If memory serves, those are the F-5 aircraft, are they not?
During their show, the Thunderbirds do take off in the 4 ship formation.
I just love this stuff!!
Super la vidéo ! ça n'arrête pas de décoller c'est super que de voir tout ces avions, surtout les F-16
I watched them start up and takeoff last year. Man those little engines are LOUD!!
