    I think it is a mistake to disparage Bulova. The brand is much more popular than what the TH-cam community may think.

    Thanks for the review. This watch has been on my "need to get" list for several months! Typically, I do not even like green dialed watches. Out of 23 watches, I do not own any. Then I saw a review about this watch early last summer. This watch in green! WOW!!!! It will happen soon! Thanks for the great review. You just added a new subscriber.

  • @edteach3r

    Thanks for the review. I have this watch (coke model) and it lives very comfortably alongside my SKX. My Snorkel is very accurate, running at an average of +8.7 seconds p/d over the course of a month. It is super comfortable on a canvas strap; even more so than the bracelet. The lume is second to few other watches (almost as long-lasting as my Sumo) and it still shines after 8 hours. Thanks for the review.

    • @edteach3r
      @edteach3r 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@camarocarl7130 Yes, back-hacking is easy with the Miyota 821D movement. As there are conflicting reports on the dangers of back-hacking, I usually only back-hack when I am checking for accuracy (i.e. once per year). The technique I use with the Devil Diver, my SKX (and older Seiko divers) when I wear them in rotation is that I line up the seconds with real time by starting to slowly rhythmically shake the watch (“Seiko shuffle”) 5 seconds before the the seconds hand needs to move. Once you get the nack of it, you can get the times lined up very accurately. I really love retro divers and, if you are in the same camp, I can highly recommend the Bulova. As with my Seiko divers, it is a little top-heavy on a NATO strap, so I usually wear them on a 2-piece canvas strap. I currently have the Bulova on an Uncle Seiko waffle strap and it looks stunning!

    • @edteach3r
      @edteach3r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@camarocarl7130 You are most welcome! I am also a huge fan of Uncle Seiko and have his bracelets/straps on most of my classic divers and chronographs. His Beads of Rice bracelet is high up on my 'want list'! :)

    Hi Falling, I saw the Orange 🍊 version of the Devil diver and it also looks as good as the green version. The Bezel inserts mimics the BAKELITE Bezel of the Vintage Rolex GMT. That makes the Bezel insert of the devil very unique to any other brand diver. The Bezel is also part of the vintage theme.

    Interesting to note that Bulova is now selling a smaller 41 mm version of this watch, which is true to the vintage original dimensions. This new release give me hope to see someday a smaller version of the lunar pilot, a watch that I love but unfortunately too big for me.
    Also, since mid 2019 Miyota has updated the 821 movement with a hacking feature. Certainly there is a lot of non updated version still on the market but maybe the last or future production batch will have hacking.

    • @EscapementWatch

    • @kewrock
      @kewrock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EscapementWatch I bought the Lunar Pilot and this green Devil Diver at the same time. The lunar pilot is ridiculously uncomfortable. It's sized and shaped wrong in every conceivable way. It just doesn't fit right. I'm a big guy too. This Devil Diver is way overpriced for what it is. Mine was defective. When I set it, it grinds. Plus power reserve isn't even 24 hours after wearing it all day. I paid under $400, and I don't think it's even worth that. I bought a Steeldive Captain Willard knockoff with the Seiko movement that is 10x better for only 90 bucks. I really should have sent them both back.

      I tried to find this smaller version last year. It’s listed as 41mm on the Bulova website but when you search for reviews based on the model number it’s 44mm. So other than the orange LE 40mm model with the Sw-200 I don’t think there is a 40-41mm version out there. It’s the black dial with red bezel version (which is one of the latest releases) so I think they just started measuring the bezel width (41mm) instead of the case width (44mm) and listing this as a specification.

    • @metalslug26
      @metalslug26 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted the 41mm version also but not the price tag they are asking. And non-limited edition 41mm going for 500+. I'll pass for now. Anyone know if the non-limited edition comes with the better movement? I got my Seiko Samurai SRPB55 instead from a local AD. Much better watch for price at 100+ dollars less then 41mm Oceanographer.

    Bulova has about a million different watches. Seems like they just pump out watches no matter how ugly or gody just to make money. Rather than a few timepieces with a lot of thought, effort and care behind them. Maybe that’s where they went wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️

    The pressed clasp is actually an advantage. They all have the same anchor points as any milled clasp. Why would anyone in their right mind want a big thick heavy pointless milled clasp, over a traditional, and purposeful (keep the whole clasp thin as possible) pressed clasp? By the way, try breaking one. There are absolutely no benefits to it whatsoever, apart from adding unnecessary bulk and uglines. The amount reviewers referring to this as a positive.......I don't get it. Why not buy a state of the art slim phone, and glue a brick to it.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It just seems cheap but I see you point. Also, there are also some slim milled clasps. My blackbay 58 seems slim to me maybe 1 mm thicker then a stamped one.

    • @martinlee7368
      @martinlee7368 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EscapementWatch Blackbay 58, there's a nice looking watch. I suppose if you're used to seeing the milled ones, the stamped might seem cheap. I have one of those devil divers, the main idea for them was to recreate their original. The bracelet is pretty close, apart from the solid end links, and the handy little divers extension inside the clasp. The watch itself is pretty bang on, but yes, a scratch magnet indeed. :-)

  • @varghejo
    @varghejo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think this could have been a great watch. It's very unique with those indices and the internal cyclops. I hate date magnifiers generally but the internal version is great. Even the bracelet with its stamped clasp is fine considering it's a vintage inspired watch. I just think they missed the mark by using the Miyota 821A instead of the 9000 series, especially considering Bulova and Miyota are under the same ownership. Even though the 821A is a solid, workhorse movement and capable of good specs, I think this watch is a tad pricey.

    My experience with Bulova is they look more expensive than they are. List prices are in Invicta territory, but sell for much less. Several I have owned had to be sent back under warranty to be fixed. Crown settings are not precise. And power reserves appear to be lower than the competition, in some cases under 30 hours.

    Mine just arrived today. I’ve 100% got to say it’s better than most Rolexes in my opinion. This is a phenomenally built watch. The design is striking and the ocean blue dial is just mesmerising. It would be impossible for anyone to not notice this beast. There’s nothing copycat about it either it’s their own original design, the cyclops for example. Best diver in the markets hands down.
