Visiting Hollywood back in 2011, the city happened to have the premiere to Green Lantern going on. When the movie let out, the stars were walked down Hollywood Boulevard to an after party just down the street. Bateman was there. Met a guy who was one of those autographs seekers, did this as a side gig. He mentioned that he was one of the biggest jerks, never gives the time of day to the fans. Side note, Michael Clarke Duncan was one of the nicest at the premiere, leaving the carpet and going out of his way to sign autographs, talking and taking pictures with fans. Was a really nice man. Sad seeing he had died about a year later.
There are actors who refuse to give autographs to the very people who made them a success. Some will - for money. That never sits right with me. The fans made you, you ought at least be kind enough to scribble your name in a book for them. At a Star Trek convention I attended, Marina Sirtis talked about dressing down one her co-stars for not giving autographs for that same reason - they made you the star you are. Be kind to them. She was very nice and spent a lot her time *after* speaking with the fans.
I read that Michael Clarke Duncan would give $5 to anybody who recognized him and politely approached him. @Provos7777 As far as I can make out, your points are that (1) There's no standard of behavior for "a child." A child can throw garbage at another child, revel in that child's disappointment, gloat at his own superior situation so as to intensify the other child's misfortune, and not only is that just fine and and that child just as admirable as a child with empathy and kindness, but the behavior of a child is, in effect, in a judgment-free zone. And, by extension, a parent witnessing their child behaving like this has no reason for concern, let alone wanting to change the child's attitude or behavior. (2) Since no child is a perfect anglel, they must all uncritically accept the behavior of all other children, who are also not perfect angels (and by extention, this would apply to adults as well, since no one, child or adult, is "a perfect angel." So I assume you are of the opinion that no conduct, from Bateman's bullying and what in the eyes of the law is assault, to a murderer, is punishable by anyone other than God, since none of us are perfect angels and society, being composed of not-perfect-angels, has no right to say or do anything about any behavior according to the logical conclusion of "you're not a perfect angel, so you have no right to condemn Bateman's throwing garbage at you, mocking your having lost your job, and lording it over you because he was working on the show you just got fired from." (3) Your other comments seem to me totally illogical, but I can't even figure out the basis of the "You people are such sheep" comment. Which people? And why sheep? "Sheep" references usually refer to people who don't think for themselves, and just follow the herd/crowd. In what way is disliking someone who behaves in the way Bateman is described as having behaved, an example of mindlessly following a crowd? Based on seeing him in his various roles, I've always really liked Bateman, but although I will continue to like his professional performances, if what's said in this video about his behavior is true, he was a rotten kid, and if his behavior, meanness, bullying, gloating, lack of empathy, pleasure in other's unhappiness, etc. have continued into his adulthood, I certainly would dislike him as a person, no matter how much I enjoy his work.
Don't know if Jason was a bully or not as a kid but think it's kind of amazing that people forget his sister Justine who was the real star of the 80's. Then she just disappeared and Jason suddenly became the big star.
Justine didn't just 'disappear. She acted for a while then became an author and filmmaker. Jason Bateman didn't 'suddenly' become a big star, he kept working as an actor and made his way there.
'Dont know if Jason was a bully or not'! He just told you in very specific words that Jason was a bully. Are you calling this man a liar are you saying that he just made this up? And if so what is your evidence? SMH🤦♀️
It's really weird for one child to call another child a "has-been". Growing up in the L.A. movie/tv industry culture cannot be good for child development.
Bullies are relentless. It’s nauseating. There is a jealousy factor here for sure. Great story by the way. When you exposed your bully as Jason Bateman, I could definitely see it. I doubt he’ll be sharing this story ever.
I am not surprised. Jason Bateman was the reason Valerie Harper got fired from her own sitcom “Valerie” and Bateman became a star when the show became “The Hogan Family”. Somewhat true story.
I have always wondered what happened on that show. I was a big fan of Valerie’s; she and I share a month/day birthday, though she was 10 years older than I. Can you explain how Bateman undermined her role in that show? The standard explanation has always been that she wanted more money…salary dispute. Which appears to almost always be the reason when something like this happens.
Interesting. . . My son Colin was an extra ("atmosphere") on Little House for about a year, and the Greenbush twins and their dad Billy Green Bush are my cousins. I worked at Fox for a year-and-a-half as a technical writer. Later, when some friends of ours from Florida came to visit us in L.A., we took the families to some Fox sets to watch filmings of The Love Boat and MASH. (During a break, some regular cast members of Love Boat came over and greeted everyone so sweetly, including The Captain, the Doctor, The Gofer, and the lovely Catherine Bach. Isabel Sanford was guest-starring, and she also came over and was quite gracious. It was fun hearing that deep, guttural voice that we were used to on The Jeffersons. The next day we took the Universal Studios tour, and as the shuttle rolled to a stop by a building, young Jason wheeled up on his bike, saw my son, and yelled, "Hi, Colin!" in a friendly manner. My son didn't acknowledge him, and later in the day I scolded him a bit for not being courteous and for not responding. Now, having listened to this video, I am wondering if my son couldn't stand him, either. (My son never talks bad about anyone, so who knows?) My son got along fine with Matt Labyorteaux and the other kids. I think Jason is a fine actor, but I talent isn't always accompanied by manners and amiability.
Patrick, my mother loved Little House and watching you and Mathew and I used to sit and watch it for hours with her right up until a few years ago when she passed at 90. I especially liked The Garvey family stuff because I was a big L.A. Rams fan back in the day when Merlin Olsen was part of The Fearsome Foursome as defensive tackle. I remember when the family moved to the city and Pa Garvey became a deputy against the bullies. I also loved it when Jonathan ripped out that telephone pole with his bare hands. Also, my wife and mom and I enjoyed watching the whole series of Jag with you on it. Bud almost didn't make it but at the last second he was rescued! Thank you 😊
This really explains why the movie the Gift where Bateman plays a covert bully seems so genuine. He always seems like a facade of a nice, respectable person hiding an ugly core to me.
Sadly, no matter where you go, there are going to be bullies and jerks. I've run into them all throughout my acting career. Even becoming a Dark Lord of the Sith didn't put an end to that. As an adult now, I am more inclined to let a lot of it go. But as a child actor,...yeah, I probably would have helped you and Todd toss him in the bin. LOL! I'm so glad to come across your TH-cam channel. We sat next to each other at a convention a while back. Blessings to you!
@@WorkingActorsSchool Yes, all is well. All is better than well. I'll drop you a note and give you an update. I'm working on some fun projects I think you'd like.
DISCLAIMER: I HAD A CRUSH ON HIM WHEN WE WERE KIDS starting with silver spoon! That being said I think That's Ironic because he basically got known as a arrogant jerk in some of his early work, which is crazy how you describe him because the Movie THE GIFT 2015 staring Jason was really good where he played a adult bully who also was a child bully & one of the kids he bullied came back for revenge as a adult! It was good because it felt so real to the point I was actually happy Jason's character got his Karma! So He was a Bold P.O.S. for making this film based on what you've said ✌🏾 ❤
Most of Bateman's movies I don't care for, but The Gift I thought was a really good role for him and allowed him to go a lot darker than his usual roles. I liked the twist of fooling the audience into thinking it's about a character we assume is a psychopath until we realize the psychopath is Bateman. Patrick's story made me think of that film too.
Bateman has had a lot of failed sitcoms--surely (hopefully) that has brought him some degree of humility. It's like being repeatedly thrown into a garbage can!
I used to work in the entertainment industry, but rarely in front of the camera. There are certain conversations you have about "failing up" where people involved with epic flops somehow resurrect their careers. This is often accompanied by marveling that too often, the most successful people in the industry are that way because they ARE AH's, like it's a skill on a resume. It's also what seems to make them endure the amount of rejection and professional disappointments because their ego's won't let rhem stop. I never worked with Patrick here but I think I enjoyed his work in Heather's best. I just saw him the other day on something (For All Mankind?) and was pleased to him. I thought he was going to say Ricky Schroeder. I'm disappointed he said it was Jason but it wouldn't be the first time. I used to like Bette Midler until I work with her and also encountered her husband Martin a number of times. Still, IME, they are the minority.
I love this story and thank you for naming him. Considering I cannot stand Jason Bateman anyway, this story does not surprise me. It is so refreshing for someone to tell a story and actually name the person they are talking about rather than leaving viewers to guess and speculate.
@@GarydeBrown Haha, maybe they're just a huge fan of Bateman and take it personally, despite this being literally one story from childhood and not a call to, say, boycott all Bateman movies, which no one is doing. This also isn't some massive bit of slander or hit piece--it's just a story from childhood, with interpretation largely left to viewers. (Or maybe that commenter is....Jason Bateman??? 😉)
I believe it for sure. After working with many comedic actors, it doesn’t matter if they’ve had a multimillion dollar budget blockbuster theatrics releases or they’re “down and out” they get rewarded for being snarky, sarcastic, biting, rude, and sometimes just straight up harassing others. Idk why that is but it’s sad to see. You’d think they could just be gracious in victory but no, the ego gets the better of them. Just disgusting behavior.
Patrick, although I watched him on Little House, I did not enjoy his episodes of Silver Spoons nor did I watch It"s Your Movie. I loved Valerie Harper but as the show went on it became all about his obnoxious character. When Valerie was killed off in Season 3 premiere, there was gossip over Jason's enlarged role contributed to her firing .With the exception of a theatrical film, I will not watch him. My intuition about him has been correct for all these years. Patrick, you are a wealth of knowledge.
This saddens me a little bit as I love Jason Bateman! He's an incredible actor in pretty much all genres like comedy, drama, and thrillers. That being said, it doesn't surprise me. 🤣 I saw a show titled Smartness: On The Road and it starred Jason, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. I have to say Jason came across as a bit spoiled and entitled. An excellent show but sometimes it's better to not watch a documentary style or follow along with the cast type of show as you may see too much of the real person.
Wow that’s eye opening, I always liked his sister and her chemistry with Michael J Fox. Overall I don’t really play up to celebrities anyway as they are just people.
I liked him as Matt on " It's Your Move ", hated him as Derek on " Silver Spoons "...as he got older, he struck me as a hyper analytical, cold guy masking an ugly inner person. I always thought he was a low key mean dude.
It's possible that Jason Bateman had no personality of his own or not a very good one. I remember reading once that he said he was so used to acting he would go around for days and realize he was not being sincere or expressing what he really thought or perhaps not even knowing his own thoughts.
This saddens me a little. Bateman and I are the same age and I feel like he's someone I grew up with, whether on Little House (though the show was getting long in the tooth by season 8), Silver Spoons, every episode of It's Your Move on to Valerie/The Hogans when NBC tried to turn him into a teen heartthrob. When his career was revived by Arrested Development, I was pleased as punch for him. It doesn't surprise me he was a smartass as a teen since he played his characters that same way on his shows and drew praise for it. Silver Spoons was a lackluster sitcom, but he was funny in it. It's Your Move allowed his character to make fools out of all the adults. Despite what you're saying here, I hope you're wrong that he's not changed from the way he behaved over 40 years ago. He went sober around 2000 and I hope he's become a better person.
The final episode of LITTLE HOUSE in its original form was a two-parter focused on him, "He Was Only Twelve" and it is the lowest point of the series. The next season it came back as "Little House: A New Beginning" and he was long gone. So, we can say it: JASON BATEMAN KILLED LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE! ;)
He probably had it coming, but it makes you wonder what he was going through to treat other people like that. Young bullies are usually bullied at home. Still a great story!
Hi, Patrick, thank you so much for posting this. I have seen every single episode of Little House. For some reason, I can't now remember why, I never did like Jason Bateman. Thank you for confirming my original impression.
Well he is one hell of actor because he has convinced a bunch of the public that he’s a really nice guy. Including me. I wonder if he was also bullying his sister and that’s why she basically disappeared from the public eye for decades? I’m really sorry that happened to you when you were a kid. Bullying is just so hateful. I sure envy you for putting yours where all bullies belong. In the TRASH!
Public image maintenance is a big part of showbusiness among those who are super well known, regardless of what sort of person they actually are. Stories like this are a reminder to me that, though we may see the faces of these people a lot, we never really *actually* know them, just the face they put on, be it in a movie/show or in an interview. Which I am okay with--the construction of a public image is a device used to help maintain some degree of privacy in addition to helping them continue to get work.
I was a huge fan of Arrested Development and bought the DVD with all the extras. After listening to Jason Bateman's snarky narcissistic commentary over the episodes, I believe this is 100% true. He came off as the real life version of his character from The Gift.
@@zoyadulzura7490 The cast spoke alongside the episodes while they played. It's been 15 or so years, but I remember being really turned off by his commentary, while I wasn't with Will Arnett's and Jessica Walter's.
This is shocking to me. Bateman is one of the few actors I like. He is great at subtlety comedy which I think is the most difficult comedy to do. Also I’ve always heard that Michael Landon never put up with any BS on the set. But if Bateman was an Eddie Haskell type(nice to adults crappy to kids) then it makes sense. Also a surprise because he really gets the work. Getting hired often, so if he has a reputation as difficult that’d be news to me.
There's a difference between a difficult actor and a jerk. I've played opposite both, but the jerks are WAY easier to work with. That said, I don't know many people who haven't changed throughout their life. This interaction was decades ago.
i'm terribly disappointed. JB is such a good actor. He can do comedic and serious roles. He can play things understated and yet still command attention and sympathy. His to and fro with Kevin Spacey in Horrible Bosses is an acting master class. While KS is acting his head off as a comic villain, JB is matching him, partnering him, balancing him, with understated naturalistic acting.
Why didn't Michael Landon just turn Merlin Olsen's Garvey character and your Andy character from "Little House" into the Murphy and Will characters on "Father Murphy"? Both shows occurred in the same time period, and I could easily see Garvey and Andy doing all they could to help out the endangered orphan kids they came across. Hell, both shows even had Moses Gunn! His Mr. Keegan character could have easily been Mr. Gage.
This story brings to mind the movie The Gift, starring Jason Bateman... If you've seen it, you know what I mean. I hope he's grown as a person since this story happened, despite what Patrick may have heard.
Thank you for this video. People have been cruelly denigrating Rick Schroder and praising Jason Bateman in one of the Silver Spoons videos on You Tube.
I guess Jason Bateman’s treatment of Jessica Walter (when he dismissed her being harassed by Jeffrey Tambor) wasn’t an outlier. It’s the only time I recall the guy showed his ass publicly and he apologized so I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But I guess he’s just good at the PR game. Still … that treatment of Jessica Walter during an INTERVIEW does kinda reveal his empathy muscles are rather weak.
I completely forgot he was on Little House, but when you said he was working next to Different Strokes, I thought to myself, "I bet it's Jason Bateman," total guess. I like his work, but I could totally see him being a jerk. Good for you and Todd!!!
In an episode of the TV show “Punk’d” which Bateman was the target, something w/him & friend riding in car w/his friend, I think hit another parked car or did something, some kind of damage to something & was gonna let a stranger take the fall for it & Bateman was all for letting innocent guy take the fall for whatever the prank was, damage that was caused, & got a glimpse of Jason’s character & was really disgusted. Also some interview or discussion Bateman was mocking LITTLE HOUSE, I think his 1st ep where his parents were killed in wagon accident.(?) He was so disrespectful & I found him to be a despicable person. He learned nothing valuable from Michael Landon. It’s a shame.
i like Jason (his work) but I can TOTALLY see it. i was really hoping you were talking about Rick S. Makes sense that he's friends with Will A and Sean H as they are also both (supposedly) not the nicest people
Man, that’s awful that he treated you (and apparently other kid actors) so badly. I’m always tempted to play amateur psychologist when I hear about behaviour like this, but that’s disrespectful to your pain. I’m very sorry you went through that.
Seeing this video is so strange to me because I just saw Jason Bateman in a parking lot in Calabasas and I noticed how “not nice” he seemed. Living in LA you see a lot of celebrities and most will at least smile at you. Not him. He pretty much looked right through me without even a nod of his head. Interesting to hear that he’s not so nice. But not surprising. Too bad.
The story was another interesting tale about Hollywood. Being a jerk is not a crime no matter the age. Also it is another reason to separate the actor from the parts they play.
I hope Jason Batmen has grown up since then lol. He sounds like the brat he actually played on Silver Spoons. I think I remember reading about him very young and something about others saying that his father was like a stage dad so maybe that was it. Anyway, I recognized the name Labyorteaux right away when I saw it on here! Also, I never watched LHOTP when Jason Bateman was on it, I think it lost its steam by then. But I remember the Labyorteaux brothers. Oh, and one of them was in Heathers, was it you?
I remember Jason Bateman from Silver Spoons playing basically a Bully on that show. I saw that Jason Batemen did go from Child Actor to very big Hollywood Star. I was surprised to find out that he was a Bully and some comments show he is still a Mean Guy. Interestinglly, he plays a character who was a real sick Bully in his High School Years and one of his Victims gets Revenge on him in the Movie- The Gift. I wonder if any Reporter has confronted JB. about these allegations and has he denied it. I guess Jason can sue P.L if these allegations are not true.
Not surprised. Always liked him until the incident with Jessica Walter, who was such a great actress with so much class. Haven't been able to look at him the same way since.
I think he's a good actor. I have noticed arrogance in personal media interactions . I can usually read a person's character through tone and body language. I think I pegged him correctly.
Even as a child and teen, Jason Bateman seemed very arrogant and full of himself during talk show interviews. Good for you and Todd!

(2) Since no child is a perfect anglel, they must all uncritically accept the behavior of all other children, who are also not perfect angels (and by extention, this would apply to adults as well, since no one, child or adult, is "a perfect angel."
So I assume you are of the opinion that no conduct, from Bateman's bullying and what in the eyes of the law is assault, to a murderer, is punishable by anyone other than God, since none of us are perfect angels and society, being composed of not-perfect-angels, has no right to say or do anything about any behavior according to the logical conclusion of "you're not a perfect angel, so you have no right to condemn Bateman's throwing garbage at you, mocking your having lost your job, and lording it over you because he was working on the show you just got fired from."
(3) Your other comments seem to me totally illogical, but I can't even figure out the basis of the "You people are such sheep" comment.

I loved that movie!
She has other talents like writing. Jason is the truly talented actor. Too bad he's a jerk. Lol
Justine is a big MAGA supporter now, and is happy that we're moving away from WOKE ideology.
'Dont know if Jason was a bully or not'! He just told you in very specific words that Jason was a bully. Are you calling this man a liar are you saying that he just made this up? And if so what is your evidence? SMH🤦♀️
I think Justine didn't want to act anymore.
@@cydkriletich6538 It was Harper and her husband(who was also her agent), more than anything Bateman said or did.
I watched both. Valerie and Hogans Family? I did not know he was the reason. I wondered why she left.
@@haveanicedave1551 Hey, he wasn't Valerie wanted more money. Jason did have his ways but that wasn't one of them.
@TheMidnightBell07 Yep, I remember her holding out for more money and they replaced her with Sandy Duncan.
Never apologize for doing Karma's work.
Yep I saw that movie too

Kids can be brats! Good for YOU! Made me laugh this morning!
I really hate it when the jerks get all the breaks. ALWAYS seems to happen that way doesn't it?
Sadly, no matter where you go, there are going to be bullies and jerks. I've run into them all throughout my acting career. Even becoming a Dark Lord of the Sith didn't put an end to that. As an adult now, I am more inclined to let a lot of it go. But as a child actor,...yeah, I probably would have helped you and Todd toss him in the bin. LOL!
I'm so glad to come across your TH-cam channel. We sat next to each other at a convention a while back. Blessings to you!

Thank you for sharing. I am sure he is worse now than when he was a child. The guy has been pampered his entire life. He is like an adult baby now.
Great story! 😆
I love this story and thank you for naming him. Considering I cannot stand Jason Bateman anyway, this story does not surprise me. It is so refreshing for someone to tell a story and actually name the person they are talking about rather than leaving viewers to guess and speculate.
He was just like the character he played in Silver Spoons.
And IT'S YOUR MOVE!
I met you and Jason at Old Tucson studios way back around 1979.
Aww man, I can’t ever look at him the same way! But I’m glad you and an outstanding Little House guest star got him!

Wow! This was a complete sidewinder- I would never have seen this coming. Thanks for sharing, I've just knocked Jason off my nice list.
Bateman sounds like that character he played in the Bad Words movie as an adult competing against children a real bully.
I love hearing stories like this......Andy Garvey and Willis Jackson dumping Teen Wolf in a garbage can for being a bully. 😆

Jason Bateman literally played a grown up bully in a movie! I forgot what it’s called but the kid that he bullied gets revenge on him big time 😅
The Gift (2015)

I liked him as Matt on " It's Your Move ", hated him as Derek on " Silver Spoons "...as he got older, he struck me as a hyper analytical, cold guy masking an ugly inner person. I always thought he was a low key mean dude.
It's possible that Jason Bateman had no personality of his own or not a very good one. I remember reading once that he said he was so used to acting he would go around for days and realize he was not being sincere or expressing what he really thought or perhaps not even knowing his own thoughts.
I remember It's your move. With Steve from Married w/ Children.
Bullies are generally not liked. I enjoyed this story.
Bullies, generally have been bullied.
always got that vibe from him,
This saddens me a little.
So, we can say it: JASON BATEMAN KILLED LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE! ;)
Patrick, you did what you needed to do. That twinkle in your eyes speaks to me. Id clap if I was there to see you do it😂😂😂😂
He probably had it coming, but it makes you wonder what he was going through to treat other people like that.
Also, yes, bullies belong in the trash, haha!
One question who is Jason Bateman?
I was a huge fan of Arrested Development and bought the DVD with all the extras. After listening to Jason Bateman's snarky narcissistic commentary over the episodes, I believe this is 100% true. He came off as the real life version of his character from The Gift.
Curious, what did he say in the commentary that was narcissistic? I hesitate to check it out myself because it just sounds so cringe, haha.
@@zoyadulzura7490 The cast spoke alongside the episodes while they played. It's been 15 or so years, but I remember being really turned off by his commentary, while I wasn't with Will Arnett's and Jessica Walter's.
@@jaake6019 All I hear about Will Arnett and Jessica Walter, they seem to be/have been fun people to work with.
Sounds like he played himself in the 2015 psychological thriller with Joel Edgerton & Rebecca Hall called "The Gift".
i'm terribly disappointed.
I started noticing a few years ago that he seemed to have some issues. I think Justine got all the grace, brains and common sense.
Thank you for this video. People have been cruelly denigrating Rick Schroder and praising Jason Bateman in one of the Silver Spoons videos on You Tube.
I actually saw him cuss out and berate a phone store employee in Austin, TX. Couldn't belive it was him. Was a total douche to this poor kid.
I believe you Patrick!
Why doesn't it surprise me that it's Bateman? I could totally see him being a smarmy little brat. Good for you and Todd! I can't stand bullies.
I knew it was Jason Bateman by the blurred pic. I didn't realize he was a jerk, but I believe you.
Putting Jason Bateman on blast
Thats f* awesome
Makes sense that he's friends with Will A and Sean H as they are also both (supposedly) not the nicest people
Sean Hayes? I've met him twice, both times he couldn't have been nicer. I have no idea what he's like on set though.
Just watched his movie "Carry-On" tonight. He plays uptight so well.
Jason Bateman was playing himself in the movie Central Intelligence.
I never cared for Jason at all. Little House went downhill when those kids joined and Merlin and yourself left.
Have you and Todd ever spoke with Jason ever since?
So "The gift" was a docu?
so he wasn't acting in Silver Spoons, he was that guy...
Way to go! That is how I handled the bullies too! LOL And I am a female! OK, Yeah.....at 5'11.5"
It works in the movies and shows that he is in, but maybe that's why it looks so easy for him.

I had to do s little research Patrick, but I confirmed you were the jock in Heathers. I thought you looked familiar.
On the other hand... his sister is pretty awesome lately.
Man, that’s awful that he treated you (and apparently other kid actors) so badly. I’m always tempted to play amateur psychologist when I hear about behaviour like this, but that’s disrespectful to your pain. I’m very sorry you went through that.
I will mention that I thought it was Ken Marino in the thumbnail for this video, which would have made me way sadder.
Too bad.
So when Bateman was playing the asshole kid on Silver Spoons, he was just being himself.
The story was another interesting tale about Hollywood.
Being a jerk is not a crime no matter the age. Also it is another reason to separate the actor from the parts they play.
Patrick, you're just as cute now as you were on the Prairie.
Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear that. But I'm even more sorry to hear that he mistreated you.
