Bobby is a very smart man.
I understand all Bobbies comments on the Interceptor front suspension and be under no illusion he understands the dark art of suspension geometry more than a lot of so called experts.
It’s a phenomenal amount of data that’s gone into that Excel doc!
Nat, please be aware that your explanations of technical processes is equal to and as valuable as any college or university professor and consumed intensely by many budding apprentices and engineers. Ross Brawn and Adrian Newey were young apprentices once, so don’t apologise for giving out your knowledge free, as it’s worth its weight in gold. Bless you mate🙏
I for one would be fascinated and very keen to see a suspension set up video. That sort of thing interests me greatly and I am sure I would learn a great deal from such a video done by such obviously knowledgeable people. Bobby clearly has a massive skill set! 👍👍👍
Bobby is so talented. One week its an arduino setup, the next its suspension geometry!! 👍👍
Bobby's sound. . Happy to listen to him, very knowledgeable guy.
I'll have more of that please 😊
Bobby is obviously some sort of wizard.
That blue on Churchill…..❤
Impressive work by Bobby on the Interceptor - having owned two, I can confirm that, as standard, they are a bit of a thirsty barge, but I am thinking that this one might actually be an entertaining drive.
Awesome job 👍
Personally I love the elaboration
Your ramblings are gold Nat, no apologies required.
Retropower really know how to spot good potential employees 👍
Good to hear someone explaining suspension geometry in that much detail. Well done Bobby. 🎉
The collaboration between Honda and the British car industry reaches a new height in the RetroPower Allegro.
@Nate I prefer it when you don't keep it short!
I painted BLMC cars in Harvest Gold when i was a apprentice. Back in the days when we used cellulose .
+1......
Love Bobby’s explanation 👍🏻👍🏻 fascinating info. It’s good to go back and watch again, as TH-cam keeps throwing in a ad in the middle of your explanation .
Your videos are always "Too much is never enough." Thanks for another great update.
the detail from everyone on this video is staggering, seen some comments about how its like being at a good college - keep up the work folks, this is my no1 thing to wait for on a Sunday
Yeah, Bobby: Science!
Man I'm so fucking excited for these alegro's- they are gonna break the internet f'sure
Would love to see an episode dedicated to suspension set up
Sunday night just checking in on me cars ! 🤔😂😂😂. ☕️in hand feet up 👍🏻😉🇬🇧
I've never thought to write down what affects what with the relative heights between the steering rack inner and outer joints, and that's why I spend days faffing round moving stuff till it's right 😅😅
Verry interested in a video deep dive on suspension setup! Way to little info on bump steer around imo.
I'm always so impressed with the quality of work and skill levels in this Worksop,, the suspension explainiton is amazing, probably need to watch it again,,
While I carry on dreaming about an xjc V12 ummm,👏👏🇮🇪
Your constant drive to innovate and elevate your standards is inspirational;.
Churchill is looking amazing as it the upholstery for it. 40:29 Love the look of the seats for the Integra build.
What a fantastic knowledge source someone like Bobby is to have on staff.
Nice work Bobby 👌
More of this type of set up and adjustment please.
I'm a motor mechanic who always had access to a machine for my rally cars. I've only recently started to do string and bubble alignments at home on my weekend toy WRX and I'm amazed how accurate you can get.
* Link to his amazing spreadsheet 😁🙏✌️
Great explanation from Bobby on 'bump-steer' I'd only appreciated the concept recently when my mechanic was explaining it to me (he's ex-BTCC). 🤔
Very very interesting piece from Bobby, i'd love to see more stuff explained like that.
Absolutely first class team Retropower have assembled.
I hear Boeing's new spaceship is giving them a bit of gyp. Could the Retropower lads not help them out? A handy Saturday morning and the guys would have it running sweet as a nut.
maybe they can get Bobby to help them with the door plugs, so they don't fall off?
Bobby is brillant looking at the problem and stripping it back to its core principal and going from there and able to explain why and how the geometry is changing,
Glad to come to these comments and not see anyone saying "Organic compounds? Paint and body sealer's not organic!"
Every episode is e joyable irrespective of length
Always exceptional content!
Love Bobby’s comment. Would be awesome to learn more
Loving Bobby's alignment stats. Nice work.
Definitely keen on a suspension video, there is soo much to know. Well coming from someone who knows very little about it!
Still lovin the Churchill blue!!
ProStrip is an interesting name for a company in the automotive services industry 😂
Bobby is some guy 👌
That harvest gold bay 👌
Bobby youare the man for bump steer. Mark 😀
Such inspirational work!
🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼☮️🍀😎
Love the Interceptor. it may get a Inner cage loop or a "strut arch" across the back following the boot lines. "easy" elegant solution for body stiffness that may improve handling.
I know nothing about car suspension set up, but clearly, Bobby does. It's really interesting to hear how it all works, and as said by others, a dedicated suspension video with Bobby would be very welcome.
Thanks 😊
That Harvest gold engine bay looks superb Marc. - best part done so far!
Yay another episode. Too cool cheers
Another great video that I watch with my Monday morning coffee in hand. A suspension special and a deep dive into Bobby’s spread sheet would be a hit in my book. Awesome job everyone, but Bobby get the price this week.
One question raised by watching those drain pans being fitted. For concealed surfaces such as the insides of the sill structure. Is it worth using the zinc coating process you use for those before they are finally welded in place. Or is it that the logistics of spraying small surfaces not worth firing up the zinc spray set up; And interrupting the fabrication process?
Bobby you’ve tweaked the suspension to the far end of a fart. I understand exactly what you’ve done I’ve done it too. 🔧🔧🔧🔧
Good for you Ian, nothing better than blowing your own trumpet mate! 😁😁😁
Great work again guys. I'll put my hand up for a suspension masterclass from Bobby - that's a great bump elimination rig he's put together!
Amazing that Bobby was able to use his I-phone to demonstrate his brilliant design principles, (back in the ‘70s a lot of it was down to “let’s suck it and see” ) ha ha! 😁
The Alfa is still my favourite build.
“Churchill the Magnificent” 👌
I had 4 steel wheels stripped and de rusted with a Laser gun .Wow it was quick and came out a nice grey finish that the etch primer gripped spot on .Didn't even take of the tires .It cleaned the first inch of tire and the masking tape stuck on the tire perfect .
Blimey! (And no long term damage to the tyre walls?)🤔
@@philtucker1224 The laser hardly touched the rubber .It was like it had been scrubbed with a stiff nail brush.
Got to do a full Steering Suspension Set up (Autofocus) video on this Pretty Please.
It’s like Magical Madness,
Retropower sunday , just brilliant guys ! I seen a classic citroen ds build the day and was thinking what you folks would do with one ?
there are more of us who would want to see a DS build. maintaining all of the french quirkiness while stepping up performance, build quality, materials, refinement, etc. just need someone with deep pockets to step up and commission one.
I'm just dumfounded that you don't have 100K subs yet.
Aww Doggy!
yes please
Great Video today guys
Brown leather and mustard ‘Madras’ print interiors are raging through Osaka right now!
Marc’s slimmer than me mate! I think that is actually “pure muscle” in Marc’s case. ( That’s how my old dad used to describe it anyway ha ha! happy days 😁
I to would be very interested in Bobby’s geometry system and also a video on suspension geometry. I have built a Lotus 7 replica and have a Fisher Fury project that needs a rebuild. Know how to setup the suspension would be extremely useful
Damn, just bought another hot wheels car!
With out an Alfa Romeo engine is this really an Alfa Romeo...?? Gulia's high roll centre in "theory doesn't work" but in practice works wonders with superb feedback to the driver and amazing handling balance, as alfaholics have proven. You do fantastic work and craftsmanship but the mods need to allow the fundamental character of the car to be in tact. Cheers
I can see why you snapped Bobby up!
Churchill😃
Will you be adding the Harris Tweed labels on the very nice looking seats? Happy to take them off your hands if not 😂
Motorsport suspension set up please
Can you guys please do an episode on the paperwork side of these builds/projects? Interested to understand requirements for the DVLA, tax and insurance as well as impact to registration (does it become a Q reg after a certain amount of the original production car is no longer present)
Bobby is a dude.
I wonder why the MKI interceptor was considered the best handling? I thought they all used Triumph Herald suspension?
Yes to more Bobby! And a BOM Binky esc deep dive into suspension geometry!
Was it actual Triumph Herald? (Or more like Triumph Herald design principles scaled up?)🤔
Me too
There aren't many Alfa left in the world, why not join up for a photo session instead of beating one another
All banter, got a lot of respect for the Alfaholics crew!
@@retropowercars Forget about bantering. I'm serious about getting both Alfas on a YT channel or Google photo session. It wud be wicked if u can include the Turin restomod Alfa
Cal, please mention something about that lovely 4dr MB parked beyond "Churchill"...
Project Kaiser. Check the "completed projects" section of the website
Just a thought on the Interceptor tail gate , could that not have been done electrically like a lot of tailgates these days , just to get rid of the problem of tension and distortion with gas struts or springs ?
the motor still has to lift up the gate and mount somewhere. i doubt it solves the actual problem, while also causing a packaging problem. I also find it dorky to fiddle with your foot under the car like you are playing footsie :)
1970s “BMC blaze” would look cool on the other Hell Aggro…
Should have put a turbo on a twin spark 75 1800 lump
What do you protect the hollow passages Nat? Eg the front engine supports!
Melting point of Zinc is not far off 400C, does the process not damage the Zinc coating or do you not bother as the other stuff you use replaces it?
like 14 !
Bobby lost me at ‘bump’
The combustion chamber in the YB is really not ideal for N/A as the valve angle is too big since it was originally designed as a turbo for lower CR. Increase the CR on a YB and you end up with a big intruder on the piston which is very poor for combustion efficiency.
Tell that to John Wilcox 😆👍
@@retropowercars I dont think he would believe me.. Don't forget I am talking racing engines not road going where it really doesn't matter for the last few percent. If you look at any top line race engines, they all have much smaller included valve angles. That is for a reason.
It’s not quite as simple as that. Similar valve angles were employed by a number of engines of cosworth design from the period, which were normally aspirated designs. The YB was originally conceived as a normally aspirated engine too. Totally agree that an intruder piston limits flame front propagation by increasing the distance and thus the rpm capability, and with it the ultimate power potential, but this doesn’t limit the torque and the applications where the rpm becomes the limiting factor are few and far between. Certainly the YB does work better at larger capacities where the combustion chamber is small enough to generate good compression without intruder pistons. Similarly with the Vauxhall XE, also of cosworth design, again works very nicely at 2.2-2.3 litre capacity where the relative chamber size compared to the swept volume is better. You do have to remember though, that in their forced induction variations, both the YB and XE had dished pistons, not flat top, again compromising the design.
@@RetropowerNat Yes but my point is for N/A applications. I think we are saying the same thing. For Rallying or fast road where a wide spread of torque is required, the chamber shape will be adequate as inlet , exhaust and cam timing dominates. For the ultimate N/A application, or nowadays even pressure charged, the wide angle CC is far from optimal. You definitely would not design a head for top line racing like that now.
You are basically correct Matn, (I worked on developing these heads for many years at Piper Cams) but of course there are always other important design aspects that are advantageous, that compensate for that.
IS your logo multi coloured for a reason , part of your rebranding? And when is Marks baby due, looks like he is ready to drop 🤣🤣
What a strange question lol
Yes, because we wanted a multi coloured logo 🤣
I’m just fat because every time I go round to see you mum she gives me a biscuit 😜
