    Great video. I first purchased the UC version .22 from my local gunsmiths near to were i live. Purchased as "S/H/Pre-Owned" is was bang on accurate out to 40-45 yards coupled with the Hawke scope that came included in the price. After firing the rifle at a not to far to travel "Air Gun Range". The bolt handle kept unscrewing loose, took the gun back after 2x attempts by the gunsmith to fix the bolt handle with "Lock Thread". The gunsmith had no quam or hesitastion in exchanging the .22 UC for a "Full Barrel" .177. Can hit groupings of a full 8-shot mag out to 45 yards the size of a 5p coin time and time again.
    I'm ex RAF Regiment btw and trained with and fired the awesome 7.62 SLR rifle, where i earned my "Crossed Rifles/Marksmanship" but i was a lot younger back then and my eye sight a bit better than these days (even though i've worn glasses since the age of 9) and i'm not far off 56 but being back on a firing range still gives me great pleasure and enjoyment.

    I have the Varmint in .22 and I have to say your review was fundamental in my decision to purchase this rifle. I too find it incredible value and as sharp as a knife where accuracy are concerned, its a great, well designed and built gun that can hold its own against far more illustrious brands.

    Hi,excellent review on rifle.very well presented and you are spot on with what you have to say on it.I have had mine now for 10 months and can honestly agree with the performance of the rifle.I too only fill mine to 200 and it's very consistent with barracuda match pellets.A second stage adjustment would be great to eliminate the small amount of creep but other than that I love the rifle.The bolt on mine is really smooth now , mine is .177 with beech stock and it's well used out in the field.my other rifle is a BSA scorpion which is fantastic but I find myself reaching for the RM8 every time now.thanks

      @@Saxymancan mine was one of the first ones, mine lost accuracy after two years,traded it I for R10,turns out it went way over power which is why the accuracy went and shot count dropped, trade in value was right down because of it,good budget rifles but of you want something to serve you years I'd go for BSA or HW,

      Thanks Stephen. We have made one change to the action on this rifle post long term review. Very very minor and cheap change but it sharpens up the action to rid the 'fart' noise and ups the power on mine to 11.5fpe from 10.9fpe. Not done with hammer weights either which a lot of tuners do.

    • @crackyrich
      @crackyrich 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great review. I have the .177 in black and am getting a great deal of satisfaction from it. I have found that the Weinrach moderator is essential for accuracy, I removed it recently and the groupings were very noticeably more scattered. I'm still getting acquainted with the rifle and the sport in general so struggle with some of the jargon. How did you increase the power, as mentioned here? I'm not too worried about upping mine but if there's an easy mod then I'm keen to learn about it please. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, it is appreciated.

    I'm torn on 177 or 22... ordered one but the guy at my local shop said if I change my mind let him know and change my order as I've gone with the 177....purley because of the flatter trajectory and the heavier weighted pellets you can get for them.
    I'm open to having my mind changed but after seeing southwestshooters channel and him tagging 50 pence at 60m really swayed my opinion.

  • @Simon_Nonymous
    @Simon_Nonymous 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm biased as I owned a beech stock RM8 in .177 and never had a grumble about it, apart from mounting a bipod. It loved JSB Exacts with the right head size (the wrong size showed very quickly) and once I'd twigged to seat each pellet in the magazine properly, never had any feed issues either. I might just buy another one in fact....

  • @LPGexpert
    @LPGexpert 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Some good information there. And I agree with your comment about the 'bump' with the Weihrauch silencer fitted, I get exactly the same from my RM8. It's almost like 'recoil' on the tiniest scale, but it is noticeable. However, I have found that good second-stage trigger adjustment can compensate for this affect.

    Hey there watched both reviews for this gun. I recently bought my first airgun @51 lmao and i am slowly saving for a rifle to shoot at my local club. Just going to be shooting from seated position at targets etc and have done quite a bit of research as my budget is strict so will be going for the .177 which is best suited for targets.. This gun falls within my budget and thanx to others and especially these two reviews i have decided on the RM8 and can't wait to nab one. I have found a black version at quite a good price so all is good and for the price after all my messin around the world wide thingy i am sure this gun cannot be touched at the price i intend to pay. Thanx :)

      In 177 this thing is great...in the 1st Walther Century Review there's an 8 shot group with a 177 RM8 at 25m indoors using Daystate Rangemaster Sovereigns. For the price its hard to beat and once the trigger is set properly (no creep) its a great rifle.

    • @ratrabbitandpestsniper1826

      Big G,,buy one,you won't regret it.mine is zeroed at thirty yards and I've practiced a lot with it.I shoot red dot targets smaller than a five pence piece and can consistently form a one hole group within the circle.I plan on doing a video myself soon to show this,production won't be on par with racecarts ,but now I've fully tested the rifles capabilities I feel obligated to do one.cheers.

    I really like the BSA R10 Mk2 but with the Walther Rotex and it's LW barrel at half the cost here is the states, I have a hard time justifying paying more for the BSA. Now to decide either 177 or 22... Thanks for the review!

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for comments. You should check with Armex about the carbining as you may end up affecting the choke in the barrel. A shroud will help with the bark and minimise length. But with a Weihrauch silencer its really quiet. we have a short series coming up on calibre in the next few months.

    Great review! Really enjoyed this, thanks. I'm new to airguns and considering the RM8 due to the apparently excellent cost/capability ratio. I have a newbie question - I don't understand air rifle power in joules or whatever it's measured in (will do my research, I don't mean to be ignorant) would it go through tye likes of metal, glass, thick wood?

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't shoot glass...it'll go everywhere and the other watch out is golf balls. I shot a golf ball at 45m and the speed it whistled past my ear on the return trip was scary. 1mm sheet steel it'll go through if you concentrated 20-30 shots or so. Wood...anything up to 5mm of penetration range depending. Generally though at 25m it'll bury pellet deep. I've seen .177 transpose through a rabbit head at 40y no problem and picked the remains of the pellet out the backstop. yes they are only air guns but it's still about a gram of lead moving around 300mph. Find a local club and take some time to talk to other shooters. Usually airgunners are a chatty people.

      Thanks. I am biased tbh but for me Air Arms S400/410 or 500/510 series all the way. There's all sorts out there but over the years I find these very good value. I have had some leaking and low power ones through recently and after servicing them and setting the power they are good for years to come and more stable than regulated guns. BSA ultra and scorpion are also good R10 is very good but too many design flaws. Hw100 is another if you can get one cheap enough but the AA gives me the best performance. Big Rita my S410 is running 11.9ftlb +/-0.03 (697fps +/-1) and its all std stuff. Yet to get another rifle delivering that and I've had 90 guns through my workshop so far. Just started working with a HW110 for woodland pest control we'll see how it goes.

    Loved this review, thanks! I’m looking for a PCP in .177 to use for HFT and this one has certainly made it on to the list. My budget for a rifle and a bottle isn’t massive so this might be the winner. One question though, how would you mount the bipod under the bottle as it looks too thin to get a screw in?

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It makes it similar to the Hammerli 850 in weight...but the buddy bottle and reg adds a bit more weight. The varmint stock is actually pretty good on the RM8. It does reduce the overall weight and makes bench shooting a little better ergonomically i found.

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a tough choice...Both are really capable. I sold the RM8 last month (April 2019 got an offer i couldn't refuse) but in Jan 2019 i stripped and rebuilt it after it jammed up solid on me. The result was the quietest airgun i have ever heard. With a Weihrauch mod on it was no louder than a spud gun...and that is including the action that i criticized in the videos...the noise the pellet made hitting steel was very noticeable after and over 3 yards away from the point of shot, that's all that could be heard! It certainly got some attention at the range. Most people i know who have had AT44's or Hatsan's in general tend to sell them on after a few months...for something better - rarely is this the case with the RM8. With a little tuning by the right person they are hard rifle to beat in that price range. At the same time the Hatsan AT44 isn't a waste of money but it just doesn't seem to have the edge over the Walther unless it just feels right in the hands and works for you. Good luck with your decision.

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works like a theoban or a BSA SuperTEN. Unscrew a half turn and dry fire a few shots...then go again half a turn and dry fire. You want to hear the reg empty. When the air spills out don't tighten it...just loosen it faster. Why do you need to do it?

    • @ScruffyOldJimbo
      @ScruffyOldJimbo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shooting & Outdoors Channel thanks for the reply. It was underpowered and I’d tried previously changing some of the Belleville washers to try and get it closer to the uk limit but it’s only firing 6fpe now so I need to disassemble to put them back how they were originally or try a different setup.
      I have removed the bottle now by just unscrewing it basically with the gun action held firmly in the vice. It did bang when the valve began to release, which was the oring blowing out of the side, until I unscrewed quickly a bit more and it then closed the valve.
      So now I’ve corrected the Belleville stack to normal again and am reassembling it, but when I try to thread the bottle back on and it reaches the point of the valve pressing on the valve pin, it basically blows out the oring again so I have to unscrew it again. I presume there must be a very particular technique to getting a full bottle back on it without blowing out the oring? I did read one article saying someone took a bit of material off the pin that the bottle valve presses onto and this solving the issue I think by the valve being further screwed in before it opens, so that might be worth a try. It’s not something I’ll need to do often at all but the thought of having to empty and pump back up the bottle each time you might need to dismantle in order to try testing adjustments is a pretty tedious thought so I’m just trying to avoid that. Thanks for the help!
