    Bought my first air rifle at age 60 in August 2018. Fitted an MTC Cobra F1 FFP scope and now, 6 months later I'm shooting groups that fit under a 5p piece at 35Yds and are getting smaller. Not bad these Walther LGV's! Great review thanks for that.

    I've played with springers for 15 years or so. Had rws 45 as my first real springer. Bought Gamo's, Cometa's, Hatsan's , Benjamin's and other Chinese rifles. Practiced and tinker with them. Practiced all different holds. Thought it was just part of shooting springers, tuning, tinkering and finding the magic hold. Bought a pcp and realized how silly it was spending all this time tinkering and hold searching to get a good group just to have it change every time I moved to a different bulls-eye. Decided to move up and bought a highly touted HW97k pushing about 12 fps. Beautiful gun in blue lament. It sucked, hold sensitive and poor groups. Put a kit in it from TbT. Still hold sensitive as any other stringer. Seen a video of a guy across the pond shooting a Walther LGV with increditable groups. Found a Walther LGU in .22 on sale and bought it. Bought a Rowan trigger for it. It was like shooting a pcp. Throw it on a bag however you want, aim, pull trigger and hit right where your aiming. Found a Walther LGV competion ultra on Amazon at a great price. Found a Walther competion style trigger on ebay, can't get them normally in the US, Bought that and put it on the LGV. Same out of the box performance. No special holds, no tinkering, no tuning. I can leave these guns sitting for months at a time and they shoot perfect when I pick them back up. My HW97K is a pretty wall gun and I still shoot it now and then. More just a collectible though. I take both Walthers and my BSA R-10 SE out when I shoot. I mostly shoot the Walthers cause I just like that little break between shots rather than how fast I can go through a ten shot clip and I don't need to be checking my gauge. I don't understand why people still go on about Weihrauch air rifles unless you just like tinkering and the hold challenge.

      I got a mk1 HW97K and that's a real nice gun, not as good as my LGV though.

    Thanks for this. Very helpful advice. I have the same gun (and I'm aware I'm commenting on this video a bit late). Like you, I found power to be low initially - between 8.5 and 9 ft lb in my case. Three additional delrin pre-load washers brought it up to a little over 10, which I'm happy with. Fortunately, It's a very simple gun to strip and fettle - much easier than my HWs. I find .177 can get a bit snappy when pushed close to the limit and like power in the low 10 ft lb range - feels nicer to shoot. Unlike your experience, I find my usual JSB Exacts to be a tight fit in the breech. I'm wondering whether that may explain the low chrono readings and am going to experiment with different makes/models of pellet. Depending on how that pans out, I may try replacing the spring - perhaps something a little beefier might help and avoid the need for so much preload. It's a nice rifle and much more accurate than its owner (mine, that is, not yours). I much prefer the weight of the standard Master to the Pro or Ultra, which are both a bit hefty by the time you've scoped them. All the best.

    That was an issue with my Terrus, loose bolts, not in the same class obviously but once tightened, very different on grouping.

    I have the Century with an LGV wooden stock and fully adjustable rear stock .
    Fitted a Parker Hale foresight tunnel and a rear sight from a Terris with green inserts.
    I find now that I have a good sight picture for tight groups in .22.
    I've used Williams rear sights on another air rifle in the past but they are really good but overpriced . May go to an Anshutz Peep.
    Really find your videos excellent. Well done.

    My LGV stopped firing once but after thousands of pellets since it hasn't done it again. I think it was just the first adjuster screw was loose, recocking didn't work for me. I've not shot as many air guns as you and I'm only a casual shooter but I've shot most Weihrauch spring guns and a lot of the old BSA and I've got a Diana 34 but the LGV is definitely the best I've shot. I got a mk1 Hw97K that's nice as well but still not as good.

    Hi! Congratulations for your honest and very useful reviews! I want to buy a powerful air rifle for hunting and pest control porpuses but i cant decide ! It has to be open sights, and the options are hw 90, Diana 460 / 350 mag or Diana 48, and at last the whalter parrus or the LGV. All of them in 22. Cal. Can you give me any suggestions or recommendations.

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diana I find front heavy... Especially gas ram. The parrus is not the best walther in the range in fact i'd pick a remington express over it. Hw are OK... 99 has open sights and best in .22. The LGV would be my choice but the rear sight would be a worry as mine wouldn't go low enough to get a close zero.

      Thank you very much. I appreciate your reply!There are so many options and reviews that choosing a gun is not easy. I Will go with the hw 90 like you suggested!

    Most manufacturers reduce the rifles power out put / so they do not get caught out by the country's laws they send them to / power-up use a power washer and fresh grease Moly then run it in say one tin of pellets 14.5gr pellets 👍

      It was...a Hawke Vantage 4-12x50 AO IR. I say 'was' because...soon after filming the LGV went into the 2nd competition of the year...Recoiling Comp...and won 2nd place (only 1 pt off a another win - grrr still a 1st and a second in the 2 comps it was eligible to enter ain't that shabby). After that i put it on the Remy AR1 and that rifle wrecked the scope. Its now ready for the bin.

  • @richardness4469
    @richardness4469 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, are you saying it’s not a good scope for my springer?

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been fine on the run up to the springer competition when its been fitted to the LGV. So 3 months of plain sailing on a light recoiling rifle and years before that an PCP's...once its gone onto the AR1 with its less advanced internals its no longer holding a zero (within 20 minutes). Checked it out on a PCP (RM8) and its all over the place. What annoys me is my AGS was also destroyed on the AR1 over 18 months. I suspect its the one piece mounts i have been using, suspect they hold the resonance from the internals more than two piece mounts. But it could just be scopes and springers don't mix. Either way next scope, the receipt is going in the box and once that scope is wrecked i'm lording that warranty over the manufacturer for the next decade.

      Struggling for time, i started gun-smithin' for Brownells UK and I have some motor races and an HFT comp with this month, but the build up work starts in March for both. So its been very busy first two quarters of 2019 for the SOC, at the cost of the SOC channel. There are 5 videos i want to do this year which are more chat based and i think Brownells UK know me well enough to let me work in the store room for a professional backdrop. Thanks for the kick up the ar5e...i'll get on it asap.

    I found the front sight blade was hopeless. Round and chunky. Nothing close to the usability of a Weihrauch.
    And the Trigger had massive travel.
    I filed the front sight into a point and it improved.
    The trigger I drilled a small hole in front of the trigger and glued a piece of 10mm section of a 3mm drill bit shank into this hole. It sticks out and touches the trigger and keeps it 'set back'. Eliminating much of the travel.
    Long trigger pull doesn't lend well to good marksmanship.
    Btw I have the Comp' Ultra and must say it IS an amazing rifle. It really is a pleasure to fire. Accurate as hell. I played with the trigger a bit, polished the sear etc, and its very light. Crisp but light.
    She's heavy and solid like an American bimbo. Thick in the hand like a carp. And German in her blueing. The engineering is just lush and of the best quality. Great balance and I cant miss with it.
    Quiet too compared to a Weihrauch.
    I have a low power fixed 4x 30 scope on her. Its low profile and no moving parts. I haven't zeroed it for about 2 years. ( I seldom get up the range) BUT its bang on out of the case so that is the holy grail and why I choose low mag. My old 3-9x40 Deerfield did my head in on my old HW99s. Always off zero out the bag (I think??) who knows.
    I attribute my success with my Walther to leaving the front sight on while scoped. It appears in my sight picture and allows me to control parallax. It highlights how much the sight picture warps as your head moves.. I got a bronze medal up Lee Valley HFT with it shooting unsupported in a 'supported' category. So I don't see myself ever getting rid of it. Brilliant tool for life. Could put food on the table in a worst case scenario.
    All the best mate, excellent reviews.

      Yes...I fitted the thinnest supplied blade also within a few rounds of the course. Have to say well done to Walther for supplying a selection...even if they need a tweak. I also got hold of a full set of inserts from the states via Brownells that i plan to play with fairly soon...need to maintain that open sighted top spot!
      I think your comments are all very honest and accurate buddy. How would you sum up the recoil?

    • @sirjohnfoolstaff3920
      @sirjohnfoolstaff3920 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShootingOutdoorsChannel Hi, I'm a massive fan of open sights. I had a peep sight on the back of it for a while but the fore sight it came with doesn't have inserts but a solid bead. It's terribly short sighted of Walther. I got mine second hand though so they may have changed this since.
      Re the recoil? I haven't any complaints really. I like it. It's what I've come to love about air guns that it goes off with a bang. Of course it must be held properly. Artillery hold etc. But it is heavy enough and well made enough to be reliable and accurate so for these reasons I rate the rifle. For me the trigger control . feet position. Feet position and breathing are all part of the basic principles of marksmanship and its all geared towards allowing the rifle to recoil without jumping to the side.. Especially the trigger hand control. I've also found it able to shoot well off a bench being that the underside of the stock is flat it lends well to stability. Most rifles are rounded and will cant if rested on a flat surface. It's a 177 too so seems to be on at all ranges.
      As rifles go its a quality tool
