man. Thank you. I am a wood worker and always wanted to try this and after watching your video a couple times I got the kutzall burs you listed and just finished my fist one. what a cool experience that was. watching it come to life. I did it with this video and of course it did not turn out great but I could care less. I had a blast doing it and can guarantee the next one will always be better than the last one. thanks again
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing your awesome talent and teaching more than you said you would. As a lifelong carpenter, I'm just getting into this in my 50's to add to the skill set. I also make money playing guitar. After watching you and looking at your TORE UP right thumb. I decided to wear a leather glove on my left hand... (I'm a righty).
This tutorial is fantastic! So many useful techniques for achieving dimensionality in specific ways that I’ll be able to bring into my own work! And I appreciate the little micro-lesson about what it’s like to work with different types of wood 😁
You are the best insturtor on you tube you show compasion while you are showing how to do it you go into so much detail and youmake a person want to do what you do plus teach them how to do it great job
Maaaaan ur Skilled At This Lol i just started working with the Dremel I’m doing ok but thanks to these videos I’m learning quick!! Many thanks buddy !!! Much respect from the maritimes
Thank you for this, you actually explained things in ways I can relate and learn. If I could have caught you earlier in my carvings, you would have saved me tons of time. Keep up the videos and love your work.
Very good tutorial, Jordy. Down here in the deep southeast US, pine is the easiest wood to get. We have 10 to 17 different types of pines, based upon who you talk to. Very glad to see this. Thank you.
I love how you did the eyes looking side ways. I've carved eyes looking forward and well they look like 💩. So from now on, side to side or up or down. See everytime Jordy you do a video I learn. Yes I'm a sometimes once in awhile carver /beginner but now I'm retired so maybe this is the time for me to step up and strive to do better. Thanks as always. Be well my friend.
I just made some sunflowers with the buisket ends. I'm seeing I should have cut the wood at a slant. Was having big crack issues. Makes sense to take the core out. Good info Jordy
The Ponderosa down here has thicker bark, almost 2”-3” thick, more orange colored. You’re right, always good to try new wood types. Again, thanks for all you do, it’s much appreciated.🌝!
Hey Jordy, I enjoy your videos. Just started carving. I've done 6 or 7 wood spirits . Still having trouble with the nose size. Getting a little better and enjoying. Helps to get away from the world for a while. Thanks .
You are the real “ Jedi spirit “ I am taking notes , getting ready to carve whales , sharks for selling them , but these spirits are so kool . I’ve jut ordered the carving tips . Best regards .
Jordy, I always thought if you deeply rounded the eyeballs that your subject would look dehydrated. Glad you showed me different, also the deep hole for the colored middle of the eye looked good! Mr Ponderosa looked veg when you finished him and I’m glad you compared it with redwood and cottonwood bark as I don’t have any access to those but pine, arborvitae a, and dead elm which isn’t much softer than oak.
Приветствую , Вас из России , Я начинающий карвенгист , делаю что то , с инструментом , а именно фрезы для бор машины проблема , . Вам огромный респект !!! Глядя на Вас приобрел кое что , работаю !
I’m here in the north part of Florida so of course we have a lot of pine. I don’t know what kind it is but we had a few branches fall in the last storm so I guess I’ll try my hand carving it and see what happens. I especially like your explanation of how to do eyes on the Wood spirit. Another great job!😎
I find in hardwood the burs marked metal cutting burs leaves cleaner cuts that you have less sanding on. The aluminum cutting burs are more agreesive, take more wood at a faster pace, and leave more sanding on harder wood. I carve mostly black cherry, walnut, maple, ash, and oaks. This is just my opinion though.
Thanks Jordy. That one turned out great! I have access to aspen pine here, but I think that the ponderosa might be better to carve. Thanks for the comparison portion of the video, too. Great information. Thanks again.
Hey Jordy. I'm watching you from Brazil and have been learning from you a great deal. I've found some thick branches of cypress, from am old tree that has been cut down. It's difficult to find bitts like cutzall here, so I work with small bitts, those used to cut aluminum and metal. So, my woodspirits are pretty small. I'm having trouble with the nose and cheeks. I always cut too deep around the entire nose. Anyway, I still have lots to learn. Thank you for the content, it helps a lot and I have fun.
After watching this video, I decided to buy the bits you recommended. Followed the link and was directed to amazon US cost was £23 including shipping and tax. There was a link to buy from amazon UK cost was £31 free shipping and they would arrive same day as from US, guess where I bought them from.....Carry on ❤
Of course we're still watching! I watch all of it and will probably watch again a few times as I'm learning. Too bad I can't show u these first ones I've made! Hey, I could probably make a video of them and upload to my channel. Not making them but just showing them! Can I do that?
Hey Jordy cool spirit . We have white pine which is pretty soft and good for hand tools . We've got some jack pine too it's a bit harder but holds detail better . Hope that date went good 😁 .
I have made several wood spirits and I seem to be getting worse then better. On average, how many faces would you say one should carve to get good practice? Do you offer onsite training? We have cotton wood trees in great abundance but I have never seen any bark pieces as thick as the ony you were showing us. At best, I find 2" thick.
Hi Jordy. Thanks for your videos. Those eyes are really a fucking problem, I can't do them at all. I'm just at the beginning and I hope to improve. I've bought a million different cutters and my eyes still cost shit. You are a great guy and I look forward to every new video
The next town over from me is called Cottonwood. Lol! Bet there's some there! I have 20000 + acres of ranch and most of it is forest, so I'm surrounded by lots of trees. What kind of tree should i look for? It's mostly pine trees but there are some other types here and there. Got tons of firewood outside. Got a log splitter and stuff. There is a japanese maple next to my window (i think that's what it's called, not sure), and lotsa apple trees and crabapple trees too. And some cedar. I'm not a tree expert, so whatever trees are usually in forests of pacific northwest I guess. Although I'm north central Idaho. I don't know. We just have tons of trees.
Hi how hard is it for carving birch wood I’m in Alberta. I can’t get the right bits to carve like you. I’m hoping to go and cut dead wood in the future on crown land. Because the wood I got in a bag is very hard. I’m learning so much from you thank you for Keep teaching me it. Thank you.
I'm still a preemie, don't even qualify as a beginner yet, I watch and enjoy the HELL out of your videos, watch them over and over. Thanks Jordy. @@CarvingFusion
I love watching you work and how much encouragement you give to us newbies. One question I have though, are there any lady wood spirits? I'd like to see what you think they'd look like. (Maybe lady wood spirits look just like the men, haha).
Oh, also I found out that Kutzall is in Michigan just a stone throw from where I live. I used your code to order one and it came today. Can't wait to make sawdust with it.

Fantastic thanks Jordy. Pine is so variable. I think straight from tree is best. Mine is plantation and very open grain. Not good for power carving.

LL (Lessons Learned!) Thanx~~~ Hey, I'm curious, did you hit this piece w/ some Satin or SG spray finish? If yes, did the grain "pop" more?

Thank you Jordy🙏just curious is this the same pine from which they make pallets? As we have plenty of pallet wood available 😊. Mahendra

I notice your wood dust goes under that grate do you use a vacuum underneath while you are cutting? I really enjoy your tutorials.
Yes I have videos on it in my play list, dust collectors table, thank u
