I really enjoy watching you carve. I’m somewhat new at Dremel carving and I think I’m trying to remove too much wood at one time. I can see watching you, a lighter touch gives you more control. Thanks for teaching your skills.
Yeah, the 1/8 or 1/4 question!!! I hogged out about two cubic feet out of a log THEN I realized they make a 1/4 that fits in a die grinder (HUGE Dremel!!!) OMG soooo much nicer to remove lots of wood fast!!!
Yeah, I havent really used the 1/4 burrs (I do have some). They sound like they made your job a lot easier. If I want to remove a lot of wood I tend to use the big Arbortech ball gouge, which is pretty wicked as well. Cheers 👍🙂
Great video and just bought a set of burrs with your discount. Thank you! I'm so excited to have better tools. I bought a basic wood carving attachments kit from Ryobi But was excited to watch this video and see that there are better would removal tools
Thanks Matt, an excellent video which is a boon for this oldtimer beginner, lots of good tips and a nice easy listening presentation, so thanks for sharing and well done to you. off to take a peek at your other videos now as this is the first of yours that I've come across. Kind regards, Tony,(UK)
hi matt. i have started dremel carving after watching jordy johnson and others for ages , watched this video and found it very helpful. just subscribed to your channel. keep up the great work and stay safe.
You make it look so easy! How long did it take to develop your skills.your carvings are all awesome and unique. Love how you explain the different tools and techniques Could you make a list of the woods you use for your carvings. And what woods you recommend for beginners. Thank you for showing and sharing your gift.
I would love to get great equipment, but unfortunately it is too expensive for someone living in turkey, but it seems that I will watch from the videos :(
thanks Matt, i have learned the hard way, 2 weeks ago i was carving a mushroom with a nylon glove on my left hand, using the extreme flame burr, and it caught on my glove, sadly it ripped of my little finger well half of it anyway, they took the rest of at the hospital. but it will not stop me i love carving, i am only a beginner but keep doing the videos and i will keep learning, thanks again ,
Matt, I've been watching your videos as well as a few other power carvers, and your tips are extremely useful! I just purchased a Kutzall variety kit which includes a wheel burr (the one you put in the knight figurine's hand). I haven't seen any videos from you or others using this particular burr, and when I tried to research it, all I could find was videos using or reviewing Kutzall's new shaping discs. Is the wheel something that is rarely used? And if so, what would you use it for. All I've found so far is literature saying it's used for curved channels and undercuts. Any help would be appreciated!
@MattCarves interestingly, that video didn't come up on my search for Kutzall Rotary Burr. Thanks for the link! As I suspected, I doubt I'll be using the wheel much - if at all. Maybe I'll carve Burt the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins so he can get some use of it. However, I did notice that in the close-up of your spoon after using them, it shows an interesting feathering left in the wood. Perhaps with practice & a soft touch I can utilize it for detail work in that regard. Thanks again, your videos are an inspiration!
I just unboxed a mastercraft rotary tool I had for almost a year. I really want to try give this carving thing a go. My question is are mastercraft rotary tool and dremel tools the same thing? Can I carve just as good with the rotary tool? Because I always see people use the dremel and not the rotary tool. Anyone who can help I appreciate it
@MattCarves thanks for the reply. I really want these burrs in your video so I'm gonna order some soon. I'm really excited about trying this out and if this rotary tool doesn't work out I'm definitely buying a dremel. I got lots to figure out by then like what kind of wood is easiest to carve and which bit or burr to use. Should be fun
yes they will, however the fine and course burrs would probably bog up with the plaster. And maybe the very course would especially if the plaster still had moisture in it.
I have 9 of these and 2 of their discs, and a round bowl bit. Kutzall 1/4" fine sphere is my favorite. I love the brand but with 1/4" size burrs I can't get away from tiny scratches. I dont know if i need to use them more or a softer touch. Any tips? Is it the angle I hold it at?! You don't seem to have the same issues as I do! Could just be I need to get some of their 1/8th for the fine details I'm looking for
Cant say I carve with the 1/4 burrs, but I do have some. I just looked at the 1/4 fine sphere and the 1/8 fine sphere and I reckon the 1/8 is more smooth than the 1/4. thus that may be a cause. I tend to use the fine 1/8 and then move onto diamond or cutter burrs to get the smoothness I require. Hope that helps will but a photo up on the community tab soon of those two burrs.
Won't try to post a pic, but believe Matt's warning. I think of the extreme burrs like little sharks waiting for a lapse in my attention.
Cheers bro. Yes they certainly bite if given the chance 🦈
This is the video I needed 15 years ago when I started using a dremel. These burrs would have saved me so much blood, sweat and tears
Yeah, I needed a video like this as well. 😊
I think Kutzall need to pay attention and start selling a 3 peice Mattcarves starter pack.
That would be cool. Cheers
I agree!

Cheers for watching Matthew. 👍. Yes a lighter touch with multiple passes offers more control. Happy carving.

Thank you Matt for sharing your wisdom regarding the burrs. I’ve saved the video for future reference.
Cheers Linda 👍
Thanks. Very helpful. Will buy the 3 you recommend as my starting set.

Cheers for watching and commenting Tony. Yeah I have a few other videos 😄. 👍
Nice job Mr. Matt. Good beginner tutorial. I liked it. Am also jealous of all them bits you got. 😅
To be fair, I won $400 dollars worth of kutzalls last year. So that increased the burr Library. 🤣
I LOVE the Kutzall bits!!! I just wish they made all of the different shapes in 1/4 collet as well!!!
I didn't know they dont have all the different shapes in the 1/4. Cheers

Thank you! Cheers! Only been seriously carving for threes years. but did a lot of Art stuff before that. Will have to make a video on woods to carve.
Thank you, this video really helps me understand my cuts.
No problem, William 👍
Thank you so much for making this video!!!
No problemo. 👍
I love your videos, I wonder if you have plans to do (or already done) a video on other bit for texture?
Cheers for watching 👍. When you say texture do you mean beard/hair textures or more pattern textures?
@@MattCarves Yes, exactly.
Thanks Matt, that was very helpful.
No problem Jeff

Sorry to hear that. Thank you for watching the videos 😊👍🍻
great video Matt, thank you , could you put up a link to the leather gloves that you mentioned please,
Hi, sorry I don't have a link. I just bought mine from a local hardware store. I just don't get the really soft leather ones.

@@prb19511 wow that is a gnarly injury. Good to hear it hasn't put you off carving.👍
i just find the price off putting here in the uk
Yeah they ain't cheap in New Zealand either. Cheers for watching 👍
Thanks 👍🏻
Outstanding video m8
Cheers 🍻
That is a Very nice sculpt.
Cheers 🍻
Kutzall is bottom puckeringly expensive here in the UK.
Yep, they are very expensive here in New Zealand too. I try and make mine last.

Its not used a lot, you can use them for big concave. Here is a video I made a while ago. th-cam.com/video/cyI9O6KFsv0/w-d-xo.html
However if you were into making spoons a lot. The arbortech ball gouge would be the fastest way of making them.
Here are my personal preferences for a good selection of just three kutzalls th-cam.com/video/bFmj4SemwoU/w-d-xo.html

Sorry I have never used the 4250 so I can't say.

Sorry I don't understand.
What do you use to sand with?
I tend to use diamond burrs and hand sand. I do also have a mini disk sander attachment for the dremel
@@MattCarves is anyone one make disk sander better than another?
@paulyanney3151 I got a a good one in New Zealand but can't find it on Amazon. Did find one on Amazon 1inch pads. Will have a look for the link.
@paulyanney3151 have a look at this video I use it and there is a link in that description 👍
