Please don’t add sugar, two reasons, it ruins the authentic taste of the tea, second it will become a habit, your health will be at risk. The gentleman in the video seems to understand what I am talking about, if you cannot taste the tea leaf, you aren’t drinking tea.

Two of my favourite foods in winter in Turkey are, Güveç (goovech) a lamb or beef stew. You should be able to get that in Cappadocia. In İstanbul definitely have Hamsi, small fish (Anchovies) coated with cornflower and fried, served with salad and bread, you eat the whole fish bones and all. They are traditionally served with Rakı. You can't miss it in Istanbul in the winter, especially down on the waterfront.

lol btw they traditionally serve the water with Turkish coffee so that you drink it Before the coffee, and not after .
This way it will wash of all the flavors and allow you to enjoy the taste ... and coffee is normally ordered after the meal because it helps with digestion I guess, or perhaps because you get sleepy after a hearty meal and coffee wakes you up.
    bon appetit :)

The purpose of serving a cup of water with Turkish Coffee is based on Ottoman culture. Turkish people are very hospitable and they always serve their guest Turkish coffee, if guest drinks firstly water it means s/he is hungry so they host for dinner , but if s/he drinks coffee first it means s/he is not hungry and is coming to chat.

I was in Antalya, Turkey in the mid 1980’s. The culture, the scenery, the food, and yes the coffee .... amazing ! It was a great experience. I purchased a hand carved chess set in a market there. The vendors expect you to barter for your purchase ! 😉

I was in Turkey for three weeks in 2012. Cappadocia was the highlight. The coffee was on the opposite side of the scale. ;-)

In some cafés in Vienna you still get Turkish coffee because some guy from Vienna (who originally was born in Armenia) found sacks with "interesting" beans in them in the Ottoman camp after the Second Siege of Vienna by the Turks in 1683. It is said he became the first coffeehouse owner in Middle Europe.

Try a nice "Iskender Kebap" or "Güvec" and watch out for "Sarma" on the menu if you want some traditional Turkish food that has not been covered yet. 😉
    Much luv from Germany.

Have you ever heard the word "Fal" ? The meaning of Fal is Fortune. You can read about your future from the pulp at the bottom of the Turkish coffee cup. Sometimes it may not be realistic, but it is very enjoyable. A proverb says, "Do not believe in Fortune, but do not be without Fortune."

Whereas in England it is usually Elevenses (between Breakfast and Lunch) and Afternoon Tea (between lunch and Dinner) - so you outdo us 3:2 :)
