This is a magnificent watercolor painting of "Mountain Sunset" with its variety of pale and dark grey, pink, a little yellow. Watching your hand draw and listening to your explanations are a great teaching and I thank you so much Steven.
This is the first time ive seen Steven's videos. I couldnt believe he was using watercolor, so i went back to the beginning. Sure enough, watercolor. I really thought it was acrylic. Love his work.
I am getting ready to try painting, let alone watercolor. You make it look so easy and I know after years of practice. Nice to know you did not start until 35. I am 56 and just starting. And I know it will be really hard for awhile. Thanks for sharing and keep making these videos to help us! I really enjoyed how you went back after you were done to explain what and how you did it, and also re-iterated what colors you used. Might be good to list those in the show notes as well! I would suggest joining Patreon so we can help fund you so you can keep making these great videos.
+John Arnold thanks for your comments John. You're never too old to learn something new. As you say it won't happen overnight. Unfortunately there are no shortcuts. But the more you practice the easier it will get. In terms of help with the funding I'm currently setting up a new channel that will contain all my new content but will require a monthly subscription for viewers to watch. This is the only way I can make this sustainable. As soon as the channel is ready in the next two or three weeks I will be advertising it here on my TH-cam channel. Until then very best wishes and happy painting
Glad you're back, Steven! This is a beautiful sunset painting and it's very reminiscent of our western Canadian landscape! Thank you for painting some evergreen trees in the foreground.
Steven, I love watching you paint with such a large brush. It is such a cool technique and I am in awe how you can create so much dimension and drama into your paintings without using one pencil mark. Thank you for sharing your wonderful style with us. Ursula
Your paper has so many beautiful colors which match all together. It's marvelous. There are two mountains and few small trees in front with some rocks. More darker trees in front of previous ones which are a magnificent contrast with all the colors already there. The lovely colors of sky reflect beautifully on water below. Two pine trees on right hand side. A few more pine trees on left hand side. A nice foreground with some bushes and grasses. On left hand side a nice land with some rocks. Thank you Steven for this lovely painting and interesting demos. Also thank you for the little birds.
Just gorgeous. Such an efficient use of an all around wonderful hake brush, one of my faves. To put together such beauty with such effortless brushwork, u have truly mastered your technique. Love your videos, one of my favorites on TH-cam and trust me I've seen tons, lol. Good luck to u and all artists and aspiring artists out there, lovely community of people.
+Santosh Sharma thanks for your comments Santosh. I'm glad you like the videos. It just boils down to lots of practise. I'm sure many could do the same if they put the hours in but some think it will happen overnight which unfortunately isn't the case! Best wishes.
Beautiful colors to start your painting Steven and a white area in the middle. For some white clouds tissue paper is used. Two small mountains on the horizon line. Some small pale grey trees in the distance and some darker ones on previous trees with tiny rocks. Two little pine trees on right hand side. A few pine trees on left hand side. Beautiful colors of sky reflect in a lovely way on water below. Two lands on both sides. The one on left side with tiny rocks and the one on the other side become a foreground with a few grasses on. Thank you Steven for this instructive demo. As always I enjoyed a lot watching you painting this lovely scene.
Hello. ... My name is Lily. I'm from Vancouver, Canada. The monochromatic look is GREAT. Your painting looks real. The end result surprised me. I'm learning that water Color is totally different than painting with oil and one doesn't always know how it will turn out. (Until, of course you get much better at it.) Thankyou. I enjoyed watching! ps. I specifically enjoyed being shown your painting like you did at the end. You took the time to show us very closely the little tricks of the trade, and the work that goes into it. I don't know of anyone else who does that. It definitely helps alot !! If you can keep doing that for awhile, it would be appreciated. Thanks again.
Hi Lily, I've been painting 10 years now and I still don't know how each painting will turn out! Yes, I'll continue to show the close ups at the end. I know it's difficult to see everything from the standard camera angle. Thanks for watching and happy painting!
Your work is wonderful! And I really appreciate that you go into detail on your methods (especially on the stumps and rocks). I'm a beginner so those tips are infinitely helpful. Thank you so much for sharing!
Stunning Steven! ... I love the dramatic sky. I went on a watercolour painting holiday/course in the summer and one of the subjects we covered involved rocks by a bridge and river, but for the love of zeus ... I just couldn't get them right, nearly had the hissy fit of the century through frustration, from now on though I'm going to use your amazing little trick ... and start saving all my cereal boxes and cut the beggers up into tiny squares! lol ... job's a goodun', ta :-)
Oh dear, I love watching your videos and then it happened, the confirmation that you are indeed a Claret and Blue fan a Villa fan. I served in the Irish Guards, who also recruit in Birmingham or there about so I have a lot of Brummy friends who come the days were City played Villa, things got a bit tense to say the least. Any way I love your work and wish I could work with watercolour as you do. I find it such a difficult media to control, although I think watercolour paintings are so amazing. All the best, by the way I support Liverpool and I'm from Belfast.
+Techmedia Fusion it's all a bit depressing at Villa at the moment. Bottom of the league and Sherwood sacked. Liverpool seem to have a feelgood factor with their new manager. Thanks for watching the videos. Glad you like them. Best wishes.
Just found your work Steven, it is wonderful, I look forward to trying some of your tutorials. I'm pretty green with watercolor and painting but you do a fine job of teaching. Wish I lived a little closer to ya I'd take a class!
Steven we are captivated by your impressive style and amazing generosity to share your work with others. My wife is a budding artist who has been watching your videos constantly and tirelessly practicing like mad. Prior to viewing your videos I purchased a water color paint brush set for her which included 3 sizes of hakes, I fear the quality of the brushes are inferior to Ron Ronson and wondered if I should purchase one of those for her. Appreciate your help, Mike
+Michael Mitchell you really need a decent brush to give yourself a chance of success. I've seen some rubbish for sale in stores that would have put me off painting before I'd even started. I would recommend buying the Ron Ranson hake. It's the only one I've ever used and can vouch for it's quality. I wish your wife every success with her watercolours. Happy painting!
Wow. Very impressing. I love the way you capture the light in your pictures! I've never tried watercolours before, always used lead pencil, pastel or acrylic colours. But I'm definitely going to try this!
Lucy Tyson thanks for the information Lucy. It will be helpful for US viewers to buy some of the gear. I use artdiscount.co.uk here in the UK but appreciate shipping costs to other parts of the world make it much more expensive. I'm glad you like the videos. Keep practising and very best of luck.
Trying to explain to my mushroom packing team what the UK countryside is like as it is very flat here, I shall try this as soon as I can source some decent materials. Subscribed to your videos today as I need to get back into painting watercolours. Beautiful painting, well done and thank you for taking the time to make the video.
Hi Steve, Have watched a few of your videos and I really love your technique and how you use the Hake brush for most of your painting. I have had the same Hake brush for a while now but have never used it the way you do only to use it to wet my paper and big washes. I also love Fabriano paper, I got a real good deal on it about a month ago I was able to purchase it through Jerry's Artarama here in the States on sale 10 full sheets (22" x 30") for $34.99 US. I wanted to let you know that Jerrys artarama also has the Pro Arte Hake brush large on sale for $20.39 US dollars. Thank you for posting all of your painting videos they are so helpful, to an aspiring artist like myself. :)

I do like the look of your sky scenes, and mountains too. Its also amazing how fast you put these great paintings together.
