This is one of the very first watercolour paintings I attempted. I am pleased how it turned out, big thank you to you Steven for being such a good teacher. I only started watercolour painting 6 months ago.
Como siempre: hermosa pintura en los tonos de tu paleta limitada. Qué magia tienen tus cielos! No dejes de compartir con los que te admiramos y necesitamos verte pintar. GRACIAS
Thank you so much, Mr. Cronin. It is a blessing to me for you to take the time to share your gift with others. You have a very effective way of making the processes clear. As I watched from the beginning I was amazed when the total view of light came alive. I will be watching for tutorials of yours in the future. God Bless.
In this tonal values and contrast painting of Sourlies in Scotland, you draw beautiful light gray mountains in the distant and dark brown in front. Beautiful light in the middle of this painting. Thank you for showing the difference between using clean tissue and used one on dark clouds for small white and pretty ones. This is a very interesting demo. and I thank you Steven.
Steven this is a lovely painting with a lot of contrast as you wanted to do. You have realized in this painting everything you wanted to for the tonal values of the hills, the layers and explanations with easy words to understand. All that are wonderful teachings which help us a lot in improving our artworks. I am very grateful and thank you Steven.
I love your style. I have watched this one so many times you'd think I'd be excellent painter like you, LOL. But, I have painted this scene 8 times already. I learn something each time Still no where near as good as yours, but, it's just wonderful to have someone teach like you do. I am going keep painting this scene till I am satisfied that either I can paint, or I should give up,. Thank you so much!
+Mario Addis don't give up! Keep practising and you will get there in the end. I'm glad the videos are helping with your watercolours. Stick at it and very best of luck.
Beautiful painting with all the dark colors of sky and the light in the middle of page. Small mountains in the distance and big ones in front. Nice colors of sky, specially the bright one reflect beautifully on sea. Two lands on both sides as well as foregrounds with their pretty rocks. A little yacht in the distance bring some kind of movement. Thank you Steven for sharing once more to show us how to improve our artworks
Very interesting how you built up the color in this to give it depth and you bring it to life with the addition of birds and a sail boat. Great job and please keep them coming.
@@StevenCronin- Steven have you ever thought of selling some of your paintings the way you are doing now with your books through Amazon ? It would be a great help for people like me who cannot buy directly from you.
from a beginners point of view - one who is yet to learn to just have a go, watching you as you explain and paint is really helpful. It would be nice to know what sized brushes you used? It would also be nice to see your brush as you mix your colours to know how much water was added?
Maureen Brown thanks for watching Maureen. I list all the materials in the video description. 99% of the painting is always done with the large (45mm) Ron Ronson hake. I try to show as much mixing as I can but I'm limited with the camera angles though I'm trying to find better ways of filming.
Thanks for your uploads, find them very helpful and easy to follow, now ordered a big brush and need to make a pallet like yours ! Haha I followed your video and considering this was my first ever painting attempt I was really pleased with the outcome - not as good as yours but not a bad start - can't wait to pick another of your great videos to try and follow, thanks and keep up the good work ! :) Would add a picture if I knew how !! 😂
I wanted to request ..in what sequence should i watch ur videos to learn progressively,,. I draw the painting watching ur videos they are turning out to be good...it amazing to seee u painting...would want to learn more...
To be honest there's no real sequence in which to watch the videos. They are all pretty similar in terms of technique. All use the large hake and are done in little more than 10 minutes. They are not as difficult as they look if you put in the practise. Best of luck and happy painting!
Great technique!!! I loved it. Thanks for sharing! Is it possible to have the same results with acrylic colours? I have started painting recently and am not sure which type of colors- water or acrylic colors, should I stick with. Thanks!!
Rishimuni Khanna I've very little experience with acrylics so I can't really compare the 2 but keep painting and you'll find what suits you best. Best wishes.
Interesting and refreshing your no nonsense way of stretching paper, some make a big thing of it, it's the part of WC that puts me off. What is the weight of the paper Steven?
you are simply amazing sir ,,. bassically i am doing oil paintings these days , but after watching your video i have decided to headed toward watercolors , i just want to get know that either watercolor painting are easy and beautiful or oils etc. ??? and also tell me what is the name of the paper you use for your paintings ?? thank you
Thanks for watching. I think with any medium it's a case of the more you practise the easier it gets whether you're using oils, watercolours or any other. All mediums have their pros and cons. It just a case of giving it a go and seeing whether it suits your particular style. The paper is Fabriano 130lb cold pressed 15" x 11". Best of luck with your art.
OMG I'm so sorry, you answered the question right below, LOL. I should have checked. One more question please, can you please also give a link to where you buy your wide flat brush? I've hunted on line and can only find wide flat brushes that are way thicker than the one you're using. Thanks millions. I just LOVE your painting. Thanks sooo much
Terri Ann Laws this is the brush I use www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pro-Arte-Ron-Ranson-Watercolour-Hake-Brush-LARGE-45mm-/290409199010?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item439dbcb5a2 they post worldwide so you should be able to buy one. Thanks for watching the videos and happy painting!
I love this lesson but think the colors are too dreary. I want to paint the bay area in Northern CA in spring. Would the same technique work with spring green colors? I have to give a try. Thanks Steve for the lesson.
Steven I would like to ask you if it's yours the idea of using tissue to draw the clouds or if it came from Ron Ranson or F. Clarke ? Coming from you or R.Ranson or F. Clarke it's always a genial one. It helps me and others to form fantastic clouds of various sizes.
Hello, I really like your videos. I had no experience with any painting! I have bought the brush and paper you have recommended. I am wondering about the whole stretching the paper thing. Do you stretch yours? What are the clips for and what sort of board are you using to paint on. Sorry for the 101 questions I really have zero experience! X thanks
Kayleigh Sutherland I don't stretch the paper beforehand but do so as I start to paint. First I wet the paper all over evenly and after a couple of minutes when I've got the sky in the paper has stretched so I undo the 2 clips on the right hand side, pull the paper tight and reclip it. The paper is clipped to a 9mm piece of plywood that holds it steady.
Hi Steve. Love your videos. I've just moved over to tubes from pans and got myself a hake. However my brush won't keep its bristles together. I wet the brush to bring them together and then all my subsequent colours seem so weak. Maybe I haven't let my paints dry on my pallete for long enough? Thanks in advance if you happen to see this. Have a good day!
Adam Morrey it is difficult and takes a lot of practise but eventually you'll get the compromise of enough water on the brush to hold the hairs together but not too much to dilute the colours. Best of luck Adam.
Dear Steven. Thanks to you. I am a learner from your videos. You said you use fabriano paper. But is it fabriano artistico or fabriano studio. I will be grateful if you kindly let me know.
Rakesh Pal I get the paper from www.artdiscount.co.uk/paper-board/paper/watercolour-paper/fabriano-watercolour-paper-pack-15-x-11.html Best of luck Rakesh
+Steven Cronin Thanks, I love the way you paint, and I'm sure I am sure I'll learn a lot more as I continue to watch. Thank you for posting these tutorials.
+Louisa van den Brink yes I just scratch the paint away using the corner of a plastic card. You'll need to do it when the paint is about half dry. Thanks for watching.
Steven, you are masterful at creating light. Such an inspiration. Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the proper name for the large, sharp/flat edged brush you are using? Many thanks.
love that sky!!...the composition is so atmospheric... wonderful!! thanks for sharing your expertise with us..?
+Pammy Jones many thanks Pam and best wishes

How do you make those stones? Do you scratch away the paint, if so how?

Steve, how do you set up your video camera to do you great painting..Wolves....brian
