    I know this information is three years old but I’ve just started into CNC in 2024. Wonderful thank you because after looking at TH-cam, your instruction is the most informative step-by-step that I could’ve found. Thank you again.

    I'd rather learn this way than via a Vectric gadget GF. This tutorial covers many more little things that we newbies need to learn.

      Hi James. I totally agree. Gadgets can be used after we know these little tricks. This iis what makes us better. Thanks for saying that!

    Epiphany #1- I REALLY need to clean my collet more often.
    Epiphany #2- I REALLY need to stop using the red button when I tighten my bits!!
    Great work as always Garrette!!

    For anyone watching that doesn't have a touch probe, go buy one now. I would almost call it a necessity. You can survive without one but once you use it you won't want to. There is a list of convenience items that I would recommend every CNCer have if possible. 1. touch probe 2. IOT relay (turns on/off the router and dust collection automatically) 3. limit switches/ homing. Yes you can survive without them but if you set your projects up using "HOME" as zero you can always go back to it even if you loose power during a cut. It also makes job setup so fast.
    4. Gamepad. Yes, that is right, I also initially thought it was overkill but once you use one to move the router around you will probably never use keyboard controls again. I'm not sure if G-sender or UGS allow for gamepad control but they should. It is seriously one of the best additions to my Onefinity.

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jeff, for this list. An IOT relay and gamepad are my next additions, for sure!

    I have been making tee slots for 2 years now, but just discovered this video. I set up the toolpath in Vectric the same way you do, but I do a few things differently. First of all I make a pilot hole with a regular end mill for the tee slot bit to enter before beginning its horizontal pass and I also cut a narrower path the length of the cut to clear the bulk of the material out of the cut before my tee slot bit even enters the wood. Doing it this way lessens the resistance on the bit because it doesn't have to remove all the material at once, leaves less debris in the cut and allows me to cut at 100 IPM. Finally, I use a flute toolpath set at the desired depth with a 1% ramp at the beginning and end instead of a profile toolpath. Works perfect. I guess it just goes to show there's more than one way to do things.

    Garrett love the videos, some thing i tried in vetric I used a rectangle 2inches long and .005 wide instead of the lines on top of each other. The machine thinks it is a rectangle so it plunges down then cut on one line down moves over .005 then cuts back on the other line to the start position and exits the piece . I tried it number of times and different t slot bits and it hasn't failed me yet.I have to get over and send you some coffee I drank a few watching this .

    Another GREAT video. In Vectric simply make one line left to right, then click again on the right and go back to left or vice versa. one line on top of the other and it will complete the cut the way it should. I got tired of changing bits so I got a bit at Menards "orange brand" about $20 and went to Harbor Freight and bought a small one hand router that had a fence you could attach. I simply make a mark in the middle of the width of the project (back side) . then measure 3/4 inch each way, make a mark. Set the fence on hand router for 3/4 in to 1 inch away from bit, using the fence as a guide for distance down from top, plunge router bit down on one mark , move to other mark and move back. Done in no time.

    Nice tutorial, Garrett! Another trick for key slots is to taper the large portion with a V bit or countersink bit. It can be done with the CNC, on a drill press or even a hand held drill with some care. This makes it easier to find the hole with the nail or screw you are hanging it on. This is most appreciated on larger signs.

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wish there was a more direct line of communication available for you. Anyhow, I’m going to be getting into the small DIY aspect of the CNC world, and hopefully make s as small amount of money doing so, and I had a couple of questions for you, that I think I already have the answers to. First of all, I’m looking at getting the Bob’s Evolution 4, with the Vcarve desktop software. I’ve heard say already that both of these are a good start for a beginner, so I just wanted you to clarify if you could, that for the price, off about $1500, this is a good purchase. I love your videos, and I think it’s awesome what you’re doing, so keep that going, as guys like myself appreciate it. Thank you for what you’re doing, and thank you for any extra help you can lend in the future.

Cost is under $20 U.S. Thanks for the info on the GCode Sender and the tip on the red button. When you use only one wrench it also puts a lot of twisting force on the Z axis plates and can force it out of tram. Always use two wrenches to cancel out the forces!

    Thanks Garrett, great explanation on how to put the bit into the software's database. I especially liked the part where you put the Amazon link in the notes. That's a great tip. I don't know if it is a topic you have covered, but file maintenance and how to save your work or versions of it may be important. Besides the cnc and creation piece, knowing how to properly manage your data for easy retrieval is important. I find a lot of people can be good with software, but struggle to find old projects because they are not filed away logically. Do you already have a video on that?. Thanks for being there for us. The Amana keyhole bit is also available on Amazon for the same price as Toolstoday but with free shipping if you're a Prime member. Just search for Amana Tool 45652
    I agree that there's no reason to go super expensive on this bit as it's not used for a lot of cutting. Amana is decent enough quality and certainly better than the HSS faux-carbide ones I've seen cheaper on ebay, Ali or even Amazon.

      Hi Edwardo. Sorry for the delayed response. When you are saving your toolpath, select the third radio mutton at the top and check the box just below that. Then it will save all toolpaths

    Thanks, one more thing. I prefer a M30 to close because that resets the entire process.

      Hey Jason. Yes, I should add the M30 command to the end of the program. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I hope you have time for this simple question?
    In order to make your hold down clamps, what is the length are your T slot bolts?

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      iwannaapple7190, great question brother there really isn't a specific size bolt you need for the clamps, I recommend using whatever size you have on hand!

      Mine were 5 inches long which does matter cause it runs the risk of the gantry running over them. The longmill isn't even that high and my cnc4newbie was barely clearing under the z axis. Cutting them was my only option. Cutting them too short will not afford me to use your clamps. Cutting them too long will put me in the same position of risking the router to run into the plastic knobs so I needed to make them right the first time. I think I cut them to about 3.5 inches? That turned out to be the minimum size so I got lucky that the clamps will still screw down.
      In my opinion, the distance from the channel to the end of your clamp needs to be increased. It should be between 1" and 1.25 inches spacing. This allows for slightly more material to be cut out at the end for a lower and better grip on the wood.
      I cut mine out of 2x4's. Haven't used them yet but they are plenty strong using wood from the 2x4's.

    I ran my G code for the T Slot and it plunged into the material, moved forward on the Y axis slightly, returned to the place it went in then made the slot to the right and then to the left and came bach
    k up out of the hole. It worked but looks sloppy having an elongated hole instead of a round one. How can I adjust the G code to stop that motion? The code reads:
    (4AC7A5FFD0F6DEDC3B51B569B338FFCA)
    T1M6
    G17
    G0Z20.320

    G0X-25.400Y0.000Z5.080
    G1Z-8.890F203.2
    G1X25.400Y0.000F762.0
    X-25.400Y0.000
    G0Z5.080
    G0Z20.320
    G0X0.000Y0.000

      Glen, your Gcode looks good. I read every move and there is nothing that would indicate to me why your hole would be elongated. Are you sure that its not a problem with the machine?

    The reason the software dropped out of the ploy line function is because you were back at the start point and the poly line was “closed”
