I watched your video "How to Reduce Tool Path Cut Run Time" VERY INFORMATIVE and I took pages of notes. I just purchased a Shard SD120 and NO CNC experience but do a lot of woodworking. Wanted to get into CNC work. Having issue with installing my VCarve software but should have that fixed with them shortly. Was wondering if you have a video for beginners explaining in detail to someone getting started into CNC. Your approach to the segment I watched and how you walked through it is terrific and done very well. But little too early for me at this point. Very great instructor, wish you had a class. Will look on your site and follow.

I just watched this on my tv and wanted to stop in and like and comment.
My comment is this…….every or most every subscriber or viewer should send this gentleman $12 thats basically $1 a month for a PERSONAL CNC COACH for a year.
Where can we find that especially a top notch guy like this?????
You know it’s worth it, I’ve sent my $12+ in and am trying to encourage you to do the same thing.
He’s giving the knowledge away and that’s why he deserves the great karma and appreciation of the $1 a month or $12 a year.
    Thanks again dude

I ADORE YOU MAN., Thank you so much. I went from 4hs to 1:15hs. You really know your stuff!!! One extra thing I added, is that part of what Im carving is like an eagle`s bone structure (die toten hosen`s logo), therefor I realized that if instead of pocketing like offset or a regular raster I do it in a 45 degrees angle It cut down a bunch of extra minutes. YOu rule and thank you soooo much!

I returned to this video to help me reduce the overall run time on my production runs and it works!
You mentioned a few times about increasing the feed rates on the beefier CNC machines. It would be cool to have a beefy CNC machine selection box in the IDC Woodcraft feeds and speeds app. Then have it automatically increase the feeds and speeds settings. This would be very helpful to me since I am going to be running both a beefier and more light weight CNC machines.

But more importantly, you showed us WHAT to do, things to check and HOW to make the appropriate changes to cut down the time it takes to do a carve like this with so much material removal.

The scale factor in VCarve for estimation purposes affects the visual representation and the estimated time calculations, but it does not impact the actual run time of the CNC machine. The run time is determined by the toolpath settings, feed rates, and the complexity of the design.
So, even if you set the scale factor to 1 or 2 for estimation, the actual run time on the machine will remain the same, as long as the toolpath parameters and design details are unchanged.
Nice video for some who are starting off with CNC programming.

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

johnkramer5949, Thanks for sharing your insights! You're absolutely right about the scale factor in VCarve-it primarily affects the visual aspects and estimation, but the actual run time depends on the toolpath settings and the design complexity. I'm glad you found the video helpful for beginners!

Great information, Garrett, as always. It is sure nice to be able to 'apprentice' under your years of cnc experience. I always find other gold nuggets in your videos different from your main points. However, your main points are what keeps attracting me to your videos - which I learn alot. Thank you for your work and effort.

Was up til 4am watching ur videos Garrett. I'm on my Xams Hols from work now so this is what I'm going to be spending a loitta time doing while I learn how to put my CNC together and get the hardware/software aligned properly.. I'm looking forward to getting the body of my CNC.. I have 5 of those bits atm pal. That's not a bad start. I need to get a surfacing bit though. The 4 basic u spoke of cost me 40 euros and one of them is the carving bit.. they're cheap from Sinoprol or a company with a name like that. The are sharp as heck but at that price they won't probably last all that long Garrett..
I will be calling into ur space to get some good bits in the near fiuture once I have learned from these ones first. I don't want to break expensive bits while learning the technical side of the bits and the machine,, I'm learning so much from ur videos pal so thanks so much for all this information G.. Appreciate every minute of ur time teaching us.. Do u do proper online classes? If so where can I find them and I hope they're not too expensive..

At 40:28 in your video you mentioned Specify Pass Depths, when you enter Number of Passes, you can type 2, but you have to click on the "Set Passes" button next to it for it to engage. It's not necessary to click the up/down arrow buttons to set it. I found this out awhile ago by accident. Hope this helps.
