I started my business with the 225 trimmer and edger 4 years ago. Although I have upgraded my equipment for more power, I used these machines heeeeeavy for the first couple years. I actually still have them as back up machines and they still run like new. Man, for homeowners these echos will last a lifetime.
Ahmen to Echo, I have a full line of Echo products from a ES 250 Shred N vac which is excellent, to a PAS 225 string trimmer, and CS 590 chainsaw.. never once let me down and still run like the day I bought them. Nice to see someone take care in the yard work like I do!. Cheers from Ontario Canada!
I'm up here in Northwestern Illinois and I have a SRM1501 (straight shaft trimmer) low serial number (1991 or earlier!) that I still use weekly and on June 3rd I bought the PAS266! 2 beasts and the one is at least 24 years old!
I've used the PAS-225 for my part-time lawn care business for 4 years now. I've used the trimmer, edger, brush cutter, and hedge trimmer attachments, and they've all performed well. I've done many, many absurdly overgrown jobs and there has been only a couple times that I felt like I really needed more power. It's built like a tank. I'm ashamed to admit how much neglect and abuse I've put it through, yet it's never given me a problem...not even once. Still cranks right up and is going strong. Heck, with proper care and maintenance, I cannot imagine one of these EVER stopping.
Driving over that bridge and the repeat wavy humps is still an "experience". For me lol. I'm an all electric yardsman myself. The weight balance low noise has me hooked. Well done giving props to local business. The season is almost over, you will be raking soon enough. Wife got me a Toro leaf blower and vacuum. Life is soooooooo much easier with that process.
I rushed to get the SRM-225. I tried it out and now I want the PAS225 because my edging skills are horrendous. I got a mulching blade for the mower and loving that I don't have to bag. I am new to the channel and loving all the lawn care information you provide.
I just bought the Pas225 last week from a dealer here in OKC. The knowledge and the way they care about their customers is top notch. Glad I went there, rather than a Big Box Store. I can not wait to use it! Oh and love the vids, really helpful! Keep up the good work!
Really addicted to this channel. I've shared with some coworkers. I learn so much! And now it's become a saga to stay tuned in. lol can't wait for more 👍
I watched this video and you sold me. I couldn't decide between Echo or stihl. well your last video I watched was the kids dad trying to start the Stihl... I'm sold. thank you for posting!
Hey man, I know this is an old video... but I've been through a couple of really frustrating, hard to use budget trimmers from the big box store... I picked up the Echo 225 based on this recommendation and WOW! So easy to use and start. I just did my first trim around the edges with it and I can't wait to use it again. Thanks so much.
Love the edging Allyn! I've had a PAS-225 for about two years now, and I love it. I have the string trimmer attachment and the hedge trimmer attachment (which, for me, gets me cutting hedges about 10 feet high). Never regretted it. Just make sure that you get their tune up kits and apply them yearly or whenever the trimmer starts slowing down. They work wonders. Great purchase. I love ECHO products, I have one of their blowers and its pretty great too. The PAS-225 is a beast. I've pounded through some pretty intense brush with that and as long as you give it all the gas, it plows through it.
Great Video Allyn....I have been running the PAS 225 for two years now, it is a fantastic tool with the edger attachment. I am going out tomorrow and picking up the string trimmer attachment. I ordered it two weeks back from Bliss Power Equipment here in Granite Bay Ca. Thanks for all your help. Kirk
I bought one early this year. Have been using it mainly for my hedge extended attachment. I have had stihls and many brands. You will really like your purchase. Congrats.
Totally agree with your reasoning for where you purchased your trimmer - I do the same. Independent "small box" dealers are very helpful, always knowledgeable, and can often be a great resource for other products/projects...... build the relationship with a local product/service provider and it will serve you well - even if it costs you a few bucks more than shopping at a "big box" store. Great video as always....thanks!!
A couple years ago I was looking for a trimmer, blower, edger combo. Budget at the time wouldn't allow for an echo. So went with one I found on sale for $165 came with all 3 attachments. It's not an echo for sure but it gets the job done for what I need.
Cheers Echo. 20 yrs just sold my first unit that I purchased from echo. Only because I wanted a new one!! Lol! I know... Best bang for the buck and I've tried them all!!
I have found my Echo SRM225 to be such a smooth string trimmer for all my home yard applications. It replaced my 12 year old Toro curved shaft trimmer. Now only time will tell if I can get it to last a good 20+ years.
So excited I have two weeks until I get my new home a little south of you. And I need to get new equipment so this is timely! Can't wait to dominate the new neighbors. Keep your great vids coming! Love that you're in St. Pete!!
Northeast is a good shop. I like duhmes in Seminole also. They are closer to home. Not only are both knowledgeable but love supporting local businesses when at all possible! I have the same unit and always run ethanol free in all my equipment and boat! Makes for less down time and repairs!
Two things for you. I have that trimmer works unbelievable. In about a year you will notice some performance issues and one day just won't start. Don't worry search TH-cam for hidden high jet screw. It's easy to do and will fix your problem. Great trimmer though. Your right that head is amazing. I have shown so many people how fast I can string it. Literally in seconds. Second try the crab walk backwards when your edge trimming. Going forward tends to grab the grass and pull you into your lawn. Great vids love watching your channel
Hey man. I used to work at TruGreen too in Illinois. Also I coincidentally bought this exact same Echo trimmer and love it! Keep up with the good lawn videos, man!
+The Lawn Care Nut That's awesome. I do the same at my local Echo Shindaiwa Dolmar... dealer. They're very nice and we socialize during slow times. I could have bought different brands elsewhere but that personal relationship counts for me.
I agree with your comment on 'feathering it', my old trimmers I'd run wide open just to keep them from dying. My PAS-225 barely needs any throttle to do the job and I have a lot more control and far less 'oops' moments.
SWITCHED TO Non Ethanol Gas last year and I can tell the difference in my mowers and Trimmer. What used to take almost a whole tank in my riding mower I now use a little over a half a tank. All my lawn equipment operates so much better.
Nice, ever since I bought the PB-250LN blower, I've been in love with Echo. I hope to get this trimmer soon to replace my Yard Man. Best thing about Echo, made in Lake Zurich, IL! Great video!
Great review, I've really enjoyed your Channel over the last year or so. I've learned quite a bit over that time. I've followed a lot of your lawn care tips and finally I have a fantastic looking lawn, My neighbours ask me what I am doing. [ I send them to your Channel] I live In Calgary Alberta Canada and retired Military after 35 years. So I have a lot of time on my hands. I really enjoy yard work. However, that same Echo package, 225 power head, Trimmer Attachment and Edger at the local Home depot cost over $950 CND, so because of your review I settled on the Echo SRM 230 straight trimmer, today for$360 CND . I'll use the trimmer for edging as well. Again thanks, and keep up the good work.
wow! I'm not sure what the exchange rate is on those dollars but it still seems VERY expensive. I still think you made a great decision - as you see I have other echo products that i like too.
Tip to ppl out there, there's people everywhere dumping stihl trimmers because they quit running. Now for the mechanically inclined out there, you can pick up a service kit (spark plugs, air filter and fuel filter) for appx 20 bucks at a dealer. Do that and clean the spark arrestor screen with brake clean. Great running lightly used Craigslist trimmer for less than half the price
I've used very expensive pro trimmers and also very cheap homeowner trimmers. I use a srm-225, which is the same as the pas-225 but you can't change from edger to trimmer. It is my absolute favorite trimmer ever. I use an edgit pro on mine for the edger.
I love the videos man. Me and my friend opened a Pest and Lawn store in Louisiana. Anytime we have customers come in about lawn products we direct them to your TH-cam channel. Oh and on a side note we're all really hoping you deiced to plant St. Augustine plugs for the front of the house. A lot of us are looking to plant plugs in the spring, and we need some tips.
+Sebastian Pastor that's awesome Bro! thanks so much! Maybe when this thing gets bigger I'll come make a visit to your shop and film! And for the St Aug- I promise you will not be disappointed. :)
My dads Echo gas weed eater he bought in 1990 finally died summer 2016. And he used it in heavy use ditch clearing 3ft weeds over growth etc. Only part he has replaced is the head 3 times and spark plugs of course. I had no hesitation buying my first one and no question it would be an Echo.
Great Review, I own this with the chainsaw and pruning attachments. I changed the bump feed head for the cam style not a fan of the bump system. But another reason to buy the ECHO are the options. Best Unit I have ever owned. I also own the ECHO blower as stylized by the Lawn Care Nut another great product.
love the channel Alan, as an owner of a pro landscape business, I own both Echo and Stihl equipment, id say Stihl edges out Echo a little (no pun intended) but for a home owner Echo will be great... im gonna miss your northeast lawn vids, I live in MA... but I will still watch religiously.
got this for xmas last year and have been using all this year. actually i got the pas 225 w/ the blower attachment instead of the edger, but i'm hoping to get the edger for next year. i've been very satisfied w/ this unit and would recommend it as well. surprised at the quality of the blower as well
I love this set up. Tons of power. A little advice for new home owners. Save up and buy better equipment like this, it will cost you way less in the long run.
I can't believe i forgot to subscribe to you on this account! I love your videos man. I had been subscribed to you for a while under my other email address. Can't wait to see how your new lawn looks when it's finished. Also, I was born in St. pete!
I've been through the weed eaters over the years and I hate them. Then....I try a BLACK+DECKER LST136W 40V MAX Lithium String Trimmer for $125, or the 20V for $69. No pounding or tapping to feed line, snap in/snap out line reel replacements, auto-feeds, good battery life ---- it's the easiest, most convenient trimmer I've owned over a very, very long time. No frustration. Came with two batteries so If one runs down, BAM, I have a quick replacement. My neighbor noticed this trimmer one day, asks me if I like it, I told him and now he's the happy owner of one as well.
I have a similar combi system, mines a Stihl, I'm sure you'll get on very well with the echo, before you know it you'll have a garage full of attachments.
+Luke Gillespie that is pretty sad man, I really enjoyed his videos, very real guy. the worst part is they succeeded in what they were trying to do, I hope he can find his way back someday!
Congrats on the trimmer!....I've had my Echo trimmer for 10+ years. It starts every time. Even after those few months of no use thru the hard winter months. P.S...I like the Ruger sticker on your computer!
+Guy Ewen if you look back at the vid I did on lawn striper for riding mowers you will see me and my dad at the end using some of his 22 rifles. He's got a Henry that I fell in love with.
+The Lawn Care Nut- I hear the Henry is a very nice rifle. I like the collection of firearms in that video. Nothing like blowing off steam after a hard days work. My father in law has a Marlin .22 that was his fathers. Really smooth action and dead on sites for the age of the rifle.
Fun video as always! I think your new string trimmer is literally a "weed eater" at this point . . . that is some fine looking produce you're growing out front! Sooo looking forward to watching you build your new lawns.
Get you some Oust or similar product and hit the cracks at the street curb. It is a ground sterilizer and will keep the stuff from growing in the cracks for months. I have a couple that I sprayed at the beginning of mowing season and they are still grass free.
+Sam Holladay Oust is a little hard core for me - but you are right it works great - when I worked for TruGreen we used that mixed with Razor (Roundup) to kill off crap in empty lots in Chicago.
two things, there's a screen that covers the exhaust, at the end of your season or after about 200 hrs, clean it. Also I only use non ethanol gas not sure if that's an option if not seafoam between oil changes.for your fence and pavers throw down some metal edging back fill with concrete and you'll have a good looking edge.
For me it A 2 cycle gas string trimmer . A cheep MTD made 25cc it gets the job done. So far no issues 12 months after purchase I use to use electric for 15 years and got sick of re-spoiling it 3x for my yard. Got to have at least 0.80 inch line Most electric are 0.65 inch and break too easy.
I used a TB200EC for a long time and its a decent enough MTD trimmer and the brush cutter attachment makes it a beast on woody vegetation. I just invested in the Echo SRM225, its a little heavier and sounds like a chainsaw in heavy grass. I'm keeping the weeds down around an acre property in the country, I just needed something better. I also tried some Arnold Maxi Edge .080 trimmer line and its some tough stuff at a reasonable price.
Would like a follow up on how its holding up, lower end tools tend to have carburetor problems after a year or 2 of use.. Also this model is the bottom end of Echo, do you feel a need for more power, since they have 3 models higher in engine displacement? Understand the advantage of detachable heads/tools. But on other brands for the curb edger it is wobbly at the disconnect and will sometimes translate into a not-straight edge.. Curious your thoughts on the Echos. Since Echo makes both solid arm and detachable. Is there any play in the clamping mechanism that would translate into the head being wobbly? Since my old unit has carb issues going to buy in the next few days to be ready for the green stuff. Trying to decide detachable vs solid arm and smaller vs larger engine. I am buying Echo just need to figure those 2 out.
I bought this trimmer and having a hard time with rocks/grass being thrown at my feet & legs no matter the position I use to trim. My former trimmer didn't tear me up nearly this bad and I'm hoping there's a way to adjust something or a change I can make to save my legs.....maybe even wear shorts when I trim, that'd be great!
Echo are ok Due to budget constraints I am I a cheep Murray by MTD strait shaft and it gets the job done. Only use non ethanol fuel with synthetic 2 cycle oil. 50:1
Great video, Alan - really liked it. Awesome shout out to Geek to Freak (I think he is amazing at trimming lawns and you are honoring him well with that slope to the edge. Looks great!) Hey - did "Lawncare Boy" ever establish a channel of his own? geez...**I** miss the kid, myself!
Dear Lawn Care Nut, what is your opinion of the Echo curved shaft (similar engine, I think) GT-225, please? Will it cut ~1ft high grass that is not thick, but sparse, growing in a previously stone covered driveway? In said driveway, I've pulled, by hand, all the ragweed/golden rod weeds that were over 2ft tall, and left the grass, (so that it would reduce/control the amount of weeds that sprouted through it. And it has worked, amazingly). Now I'm left with said wispy grass, not thick, but it's long and needs cutting. The area is ~10ft w by ~40 ft long). When finished with this application, I plan to use the string trimmer around my home, that is med-light application. I live in the northeast. I like the GT-225 curved shaft for it's low weight, easy/reliable starting, low operating noise. Any comments appreciated (if you have time. Otherwise, it's ok). Thanks for your videos. God Bless.
cant wait for your videos for the new lawn. I to have a huge weed problem at the house I purchased. I will be paying attention as to how you get rid of all these weeds. Also another question. I'm having problem with moles and I think some voles are also moving in. any advise. there tunneling my yard.
I'm torn between the Sthil Kombi 90 R and its better power/lighter weight/ability to use all attachments including a bed redefiner vs the Echo PAS 225's cheaper price/easier string replacement. Any suggestions? I plan on buying a power head, string trimmer (with possibly an edge-it pro add on???), power pruner, pole extender, articulating hedge trimmer, tiller, and maybe a bed redefiner (though that isn't a deal breaker). New to the channel but I have watched basically all your videos in a week. I'm addicted!
Sorry Allyn please disregard my last message...you made good on the Roundup in the next video you posted...I should have known you were on track to do it :)
I have st. Aug and have the same problem with my driveway/pavers edge being exposed/ugly. What can I do to fix it? Resoil over that edge and feet/water to grow in?
How is this thing holding up for you? I'm torn between this and Milwaukees Quik-Loc cordless power head. Definitely leaning towards the Echo at this point, would love to hear how its treated you after 4 or so years. Thanks for the vid either way, touched on a bunch of valid points on why you decided on this make/model.
I started my business with the 225 trimmer and edger 4 years ago. Although I have upgraded my equipment for more power, I used these machines heeeeeavy for the first couple years. awesome! enjoy that trimmer!
We use Echo SRM230 trimmers and the PAS266 for edgers, hedge trimmers, and string trimmers. Love the system.
Really addicted to this channel. I've shared with some coworkers. I learn so much! And now it's become a saga to stay tuned in. lol can't wait for more 👍

You made a excellent choice with Echo. I've had a blower and trimmer since 2008, not a single problem from either. Again, good choice.
+TexStar Lawn thanks!

I am a newer viewer, but I can say, I have learned so much from your channel! thanks for sharing your tips! my neighbors are jealous!
+Andrea Henry that's the idea - to dominate! :)
Looking forward to next spring to see the transformation of this lawn
I have found my Echo SRM225 to be such a smooth string trimmer for all my home yard applications. It replaced my 12 year old Toro curved shaft trimmer. Now only time will tell if I can get it to last a good 20+ years.
I love this intro. Wish he still did them like this old school.
So excited I have two weeks until I get my new home a little south of you. And I need to get new equipment so this is timely! Can't wait to dominate the new neighbors. Keep your great vids coming! Love that you're in St. Pete!!

+The Lawn Care Nut your welcome. Thank you for all your tips. Great channel
I was dying when you kicked the Leer when walking by 😂😂😂😂
Hey man. I used to work at TruGreen too in Illinois. Also I coincidentally bought this exact same Echo trimmer and love it! Keep up with the good lawn videos, man!
+Jeffrot16 welcome my brother!
Love my Echo...flip it around and do the edging. Welcome to the family!
Couldn't agree with you more about personal service and knowledgeable advice you get from a dealership vs box store.
+Primo Landscaping yeah my dealer Chris is awesome. I like going in just to talk with her.
+The Lawn Care Nut That's awesome. I do the same at my local Echo Shindaiwa Dolmar... dealer. They're very nice and we socialize during slow times. I could have bought different brands elsewhere but that personal relationship counts for me.

I still think you made a great decision - as you see I have other echo products that i like too.
love echo! that's all I ever use, I recommend echo to anyone that will listen, super reliable and very easy to service as well! great video thanks!
just bought a srm 225 yesterday, I'm loving the weight and feel good review brah.
+Sean Nesbitt you are smart! :)
I work at a sprayer factory. we build some echo sprayers. quality wise they are the most stringent and thorough of all the brands we contract.
I agree... I like the blade edger... It is more even and just looks better... And I like the bit of a channel it digs. Tidy.
yeah, can`t go wrong with an echo! you will like it.

hey Allyn you make great videos and I live in Odessa FL which is 45 mins from St Pete maybe I might see u around the area sometime
Nice product review. Echo makes a quality trimmer.
Nice video. You really made the most of that yard from a videography standpoint. 👏🏻
You got some big dollars in hardscaping out there.. good luck with the new crib and lawn!
We use all Echo Trimmers from the Home Depot --- SRM 225
Now for chainsaws and back pack blowers -- Hands Down Stihl

+Uk Lawn Care for sure - I could go broke just buying extras I don't even need :)
I was already looking at the echo. Thanks for the review!
+Fall River Lawn and Landscape you're welcome!
looking good Alan....love that trimmer....
looking fwd to when you seed.........best
Who is sad to see geek to freak lawn care shut down.
why did he
+YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE because people were hating and threatening him and his family
+Luke Gillespie oh
Yup
+Luke Gillespie that is pretty sad man, I really enjoyed his videos, very real guy.
the worst part is they succeeded in what they were trying to do, I hope he can find his way back someday!
love your channel, great info. You motivate me to get out in the heat
Congrats on the trimmer!....I've had my Echo trimmer for 10+ years. It starts every time. Even after those few months of no use thru the hard winter months. P.S...I like the Ruger sticker on your computer!
+Guy Ewen thanks - you are the first to mention that sticker. I've got a Ruger 9 that is a really steady performer :)
+The Lawn Care Nut -Nice!....I have several .22lr Rugers that I use for competition. Very accurate.
+Sue Tillie no doubt, I've got a real farm field out front! :)
Get you some Oust or similar product and hit the cracks at the street curb. It is a ground sterilizer and will keep the stuff from growing in the cracks for months. I have a couple that I sprayed at the beginning of mowing season and they are still grass free.
ETA: Good choice in trimmer. I looked at several and ended up with a RedMax. It was the best option for me and what I needed.
+Sam Holladay Oust is a little hard core for me - but you are right it works great - when I worked for TruGreen we used that mixed with Razor (Roundup) to kill off crap in empty lots in Chicago.
love yer vids, love your passion for your garden, great stuff, keep it up
Hey LCN, try TMC weed wacker it has superior power on top of that it uses 3.3mm diamond edge orange string that last.
two things, there's a screen that covers the exhaust, at the end of your season or after about 200 hrs, clean it. Also I only use non ethanol gas not sure if that's an option if not seafoam between oil changes.for your fence and pavers throw down some metal edging back fill with concrete and you'll have a good looking edge.
+Chad Martin never mind about the gas just finished the vid.
+Chad Martin thank you, that's great advice for the fence!
For me it
A 2 cycle gas string trimmer . A cheep MTD made 25cc it gets the job done. So far no issues 12 months after purchase
I use to use electric for 15 years and got sick of re-spoiling it 3x for my yard.
Got to have at least 0.80 inch line
Most electric are 0.65 inch and break too easy.
I suggested the SRM 225 I see you went for Echo, good man.
Used to be in a lawn business and all they used was echos. Let me say you think the 225 is strong wait till you try a 230..things a beast.
Ya RUGER!! Loving these vids Allyn!!! I've been wanting those palms for a while but still haven't got them yet.
Lol, I noticed that sticker too...
Echo are ok
Due to budget constraints I am I a cheep Murray by MTD strait shaft and it gets the job done. Only use non ethanol fuel with synthetic 2 cycle oil.
50:1
Great video, Alan - really liked it.
Awesome shout out to Geek to Freak (I think he is amazing at trimming lawns and you are honoring him well with that slope to the edge. Looks great!)
Hey - did "Lawncare Boy" ever establish a channel of his own? geez...**I** miss the kid, myself!
Hah, I love watching Geek to Freak too! Can't wait to see what your new lawn looks like!
+Patric Bernard just started on the reno yesterday, but probably won't get the actual video up for a couple weeks
God Bless.
That's the trimmer I have. I use it for edging and trimming. Great buy!
Ouch! One of my fav channels bought an echo! A little piece of me died :( lol congrats, cant wait to see the yard turn around
+eXterminator ha ha! can't please everyone ;)
The Lawn Care Nut vids are great but you should of bought a stihl km 56 (27.2)cc 220$ with a trimmer attachment 310 $ more power and reluabilty
No stihl
AL this trimmer is better????
I just got the pas 266 with the hedge trimmer best trimmer I have ever had
+Jeremy Ingram yeah that's a step up in power with a couple more features right?
+The Lawn Care Nut ya it's a little stronger I just started a lawn care business needed the extra power with the attachments so far I love echo
This may have been answered earlier, and great video by the way! But what's with the non ethanol gas? Can u expand on that and its importance?
cant wait for your videos for the new lawn. I to have a huge weed problem at the house I purchased. I will be paying attention as to how you get rid of all these weeds. Also another question. I'm having problem with moles and I think some voles are also moving in. any advise. there tunneling my yard.
+Tuner871 moles are a tough one. But this product works the best that I have found amzn.to/1NKNcZl
I'm Glad you went with one of my suggestions! ;)
+Andrew Barry well of course!
yeah! thats my trimmer/edger. thx for the best lawn on the block.
Spray just a touch of Pb blaster down the throttle cable tube that leads to the trigger. You think the throttle is nice now?
Any tips on adjusting the edger? Not sure what to look for.
What are your thoughts on the blower attachment for this trimmer?
I'm torn between the Sthil Kombi 90 R and its better power/lighter weight/ability to use all attachments including a bed redefiner vs the Echo PAS 225's cheaper price/easier string replacement. Any suggestions? I plan on buying a power head, string trimmer (with possibly an edge-it pro add on???), power pruner, pole extender, articulating hedge trimmer, tiller, and maybe a bed redefiner (though that isn't a deal breaker). New to the channel but I have watched basically all your videos in a week. I'm addicted!
just got one for my birthday!
Should I be as careful around wood fence too?
when the lady at the lawnmower place twisted that wing nut, it sounded like she was taking a crap hahah...1:50
I have all the attachments and love it! The blower looks like a rocket launcher. I get comments from people all the time.
Sorry Allyn please disregard my last message...you made good on the Roundup in the next video you posted...I should have known you were on track to do it :)
+Mitchell Posner nice! :)
+The Lawn Care Nut Love your whole style music and editing. So much fun to watch and takes me away to your world (and mine)!
Hey Allyn, what's the name of the song at the beginning of this video?
I was watching this video to see if this might be an option to buy for my home and what are the odds that you mention Zion,IL my hometown lol!
Love the Geek to Freak shout out!!
Nice review do you ever go to the under tow?
Nice vid. I was in Zion IL last week also. Any suggestions on how to keep people from driving / parking on the lawn?
+motordar if people are parking on your lawn then you have bigger problems than I can solve lol :)
