My grandma has a Stihl trimmer its nice I like their chainsaws I have a fs90 I think is the model name I know its 16" and can't take an 18" bar lile my Poulan woodsman 2075 but its still nice
By far the best video I've found on the topic in terms of straight forward information (and confirms I made the right decision). I recently purchased the FSA 60 R and it's great. Being a the battery option I think the weight issue is negligible. I'm not a tall guy but having the straight shaft seems to be less physically taxing and gives me a lot more flexibility especially getting under or around objects as you say.
I'm firmly in the straight shaft camp because you can fit pretty much any Kombi/Multi-tool attachment because of the 5mm square shaft that seems to be universal.
FS90R Best trimmer I've ever owned , mine over 10 years old , minamal issues, primer ball, gas cap, and of course, yearly maintenance - Air filter. fuel filter , grease the lower end shaft. Spark plug, and I've seen so many trimmers, with clogged spark arresters due to the horrible gas,, Pull them out and burn that carbon off, if your getting no power, or bogging down.. Most people contribute that to the carb...
My bent shaft snapped in the lower assembly - to replace the lower assembly costs $220 before shipping which is almost the price of a new bent shaft trimmer e.g. $280. On FB marketplace can only find ones clearly left out in the rain as covered in rust. Do not bother with a bent shaft they are gutless and if they break you have to essentially throw them away due to spare parts being too expensive.
What model trimmer do you have? And where do you live? That price seems crazy high but I know the prices in the United States are lower than other parts of the world
Straight shaft is great for me and my business the Stihl fs56 RC string trimmer is balanced and comfortable to use it's efficient satisfied to use them any other two stroke engines I've used over the years then the curve shafts I've use to use when I started to use straight shafts it made my back not hurt so much I would recommend straight shaft any day then curve shaft if that makes any sense at all for most people it do make sense to have a straight shaft trimmer then curve shaft that will save your back in the future
Straight shaft all day long, if you can afford it, go for a combi unit. I use a Husqvarna 535LK pro combi and it has the power and versatility to do pretty much everything. It does come at a cost though. All depends on how much you do. I use it for my business but if it is just for your garden it's probably way too expensive!
Turns out I can put .095 line in the c5-2 (curved shaft head) and it works fine, it’ll bog it down a little bc of not having the better power transfer like the SS unit but it works.
For me it’s totally the straight shaft mainly because I’m tall, my first weedeater was a curved shaft and I always felt that I had to bend over alot with it and also because the curved shaft is closer to your body you get hit with more debree as compared to a straight t shaft plus like you said you can reach under things with the straight shaft which I absolutely love, so yea straight Shaft all the way, Btw do you think you can make a vid about keeping the trimmer guard on or taking the guard off because I always keep mine on, I personally feel that it’s better to keep the guard on
Lets start with fs 38 .Stihl fs 38,40 you can use them on small propereties for cuting small gras! With fs 45 and so on you can cut big grass!I had older model stihl fs 87and soon comes fs 360!
I’d much rather a curved shaft cause I’m not that tall and it’s lighter and easier to use. I’ve got a Stihl fs45 and it’s the best line trimmer I’ve ever had.
Question for you, the KMA 135R with a fully charged AP 3000S battery and a KM 131R and with a full tank of fuel…if I had the same attachment and I ran both at full speed without refueling or recharging which will have a longer run time
Brother I'm recheck as fμ€!, what I have at my disposal is a curved shaft 90's homelite bandit xs135 or sx135 25cc motor, and I think I detonated my echo srm210 vadass beast of a trimmer so I took the shaft off of both and slid the straight shaft into the bandit motor. I find out the vandit is recessed whike echo has a drive thats protruding. What do I do I start small increments with a tubing cutter...and boom I got a straight shaft old bandit with my speed feed 400 head. I didn't even have to change out the diagrams in the Bandit the fuel lines had rotted away. So it ended up on my neighbor's curb one-day and I snatched it up put a primer bulb in it and some fuel lines and cleaned the spark plug, fresh fuel and prumed and it fired right up. So I had a curved shaft I didn't like at all but was a backup until I've done everything to my echo but open the top end...which is what I'm gonna do to see if I can save it. Or find a decent shape used srm210. Echo had that trimmer perfect for what I need for now I got a custom echolite bandit210 LoL
Difference between a curved shaft and a straight shaft is you look like you have no clue what you doing with a curved shaft especially with the guard on you look like you're a beginner and you have no flipping clue what you're doing with a straight shaft you look like you've been doing it for 40 years so that's the real difference LOL

For me, and i am 6 foot 4, i am a big curved shaft Guy! I have 4 echo gt225 and i love them so much! So light and easy to use!

Wow! Thank you! You covered everything I needed to know to make my decision!
I have a curved shaft.
And my grass trimmer does too.
Well Chris it may be time to step up your game.
😂
😃
Best content. Great job, Carl’s Mower & Saw.
I have the fs 56rc and I flipping love it!

Super helpful video! The only thing i would add would be what would be the maximum height you'd be comfortable using a curved.
Great review! Answered all of my questions.

You nailed it
Thank you. You’ve just saved me from buying the wrong model!

Can you still edge with a bent shaft strimmer?

I will put that on the list. I would say the negatives of running without a guard really outweigh the benefits

We have just the video for you! Tomorrow at 1pm. Stihl FS 38 vs FS 40. Which is your preferred trimmer?
I prefer the autocut 26-2 to the auto cut 25-2.
great summary
I’d much rather a curved shaft cause I’m not that tall and it’s lighter and easier to use. I’ve got a Stihl fs45 and it’s the best line trimmer I’ve ever had.
Thank you, you convinced me.
Curved shafts go clockwise which many prefer
If you are used to the clockwise rotation it is hard to change.
I think it's all about your height. I'm a short ass. With a straight trimmer I have to hold it higher. Bent shaft is more natural for me.

Assuming you mean AP300S
I would say the KM131 by 20 minutes. Good test idea.
@@Carlsmower correct AP300S

Good video
Glad I subbed
height is number one, those bent shafts are horrible to use if you are above 5'8""
Definitely a key factor
Thanks for sharing great video
thanks for your helpl
Thanks
Curved shaft is way better for lawn edging flat and straight
STIHL ALL DAY.
I hate curved shaft trimmers makes me feel like I'm standing over the trimmer head, I will pay extra to not have the damn junk flying all over me
Thanks. This answered my questions.
Lemme save you some time get the straight shaft
Oh man I have a curved shaft I might have to bend it to make it a straight shaft LOL not really take a joke for all the haters
We live for sarcasm ;) and yeah a straight shaft can be much more efficient.
Can't believe I'm taking weed-whacker advice from a non- Mexican but here we are.
No Se’
Hopefully the advice you got from a gringo was good. 😃
Idk why they even make curved 1s
Nice video. He basically made part of his inventory less desirable. Smart 🙄
Just sharing the differences. For some the curved shaft is fine. But for most you’ll be much happier long term with the straight shaft.
Why am I giggling like a teenager, I’m such an idiot
I hit the 👎🏾 only cause you is rough haha but info is awesome thanks for that.

What was the point of this passive aggressive comment?
@@Xemantic I wrote it a year again lol I'll probably delete it
Straight shaft is a stupid design. The head isn't parallel to the ground, which is how a trimmer should be. If I want to edge, I'll get an edger.
