eBay Algorithm Refresh! Ending Listings So You CAN SELL THEM! Relist or Sell Similar on eBay

  • If we are going to make money selling on ebay there are a few things we need to know about the ebay algorithm first. When listings are listed on ebay too long they can become stale and lose prime search optimization. So how to we combat that on ebay? We end those stale listings and refresh them with a new item number to trick the ebay algorithm into boosting our items for sale on the ebay platform. But when do we do that? And are there any problems with doing that in the long run? And I will also answer the biggest question of them all - should you relist as sell similar or just simply relist?

Your observation that almost everything sells eventually was spot on. Yesterday, I sold two items that were listed in 2019. As a seller of collectibles I have the be cognizant of the season and economy. Sometimes something may take a couple of years for the right buyer to come along. When I notice a listing getting old, I will adjust with new photos, new title and re-research the price.

This may have been one of your best videos! I end and relist quite often - Last time I did an end and relist on 90% of my inventory and page views, impressions, and sales went through the roof! In one day my sales went from $150 to $580. I think you need to refer to this video often as sellers need to do this more often! Love you girl!

Did you know that if you use the down down to the left of the item picture and select end listing that it permanently ends the listing. YES. The item does not go to the Unsold or Ended list page. If you end a listing by checking the box to the left of the picture, then use the actions tab, then end the item, it goes to the ended page.

Another good thing to note is that doing “sell similar” on certain items WILL generate more sales on other items. I will sit on “garbage” items, and relist just for general increased sales. Items that don’t/won’t sell still have value as “fodder” for your store. 😁

Not seeing how sell similars does anything to "fool" Ebay's algorithm vs. relist. End a listing, relist it. Ebay gives you a new item number without changing anything. (pardon my ignorance)

Lindey, I luv your content and I've learned a lot from you over the last couple of years...thank you so much. But I just ran another test on this; when you end and RELIST you do get a new item # and you do get the "New Listing" bump in the search results.

What about just editing the listing e.g. adjusting price, adding pictures etc. instead of using sell similar. Would that increase views? Often when I list items I deliberately price a bit too high and then gradually lower. I'm wondering if this reduces my likelihood of selling though, since by the time I have priced at a reasonable price, it is no longer getting as many views.

    • @benbrill1384
      @benbrill1384 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hi! I'm not lindey, but I'm better than nothing. The reason why you're seeing a different amount of items when you scan vs search is that when you scan, you only see the items (active & sold) that people put the barcode in their listing. If they don't put the barcode UPC in their listing, it wont show up when you scan. That's why it might be a good idea for beginners to search things in the search bar before making the final decision on whether to buy or not.

Personally I think "watchers" get too much importance placed on them by sellers. I want buyers in my store, not watchers which are not exactly buyers in most cases. I've actually had items with watchers that I've ended and then sold similar where the item sold after the new listing went up. Was it a watcher from the previous listing? Who knows but like I stated I want buyers.

In my mind, watchers on a buy it now are relevant for no more than 24 hours. I send an offer, and if they don't take it in a day, they're dead to me. However, sometimes future buyers may see that there are a lot of watchers, and that will tide them over on buying. Just something to think about

????? I don't what to come across as 'Debby Downer' but I just need some advice on Wholesale Ninja's packing. I'm new to ordering to them and when my first box arrived about 25% of the lotions and creams were either unsealed or some leaked all over the bottom of the box. The second box, same thing with the lotions plus an uncapped lipstick that messed up a lot of other items. So when you pay the shipping and that percentage of heavy weight objects are not sellable what do you do with them? I inadvertently listed an Olay product that was unsealed with the first box. A buyer asked was it already used. I removed that item. I'm not sure what to do with the products are unsellable. Has this happened to others?????

I only ordered 1 box, but I know that sometimes the box is really beat up. Usually, they have to be shelf pulled (NOT returns). If more than 5% of the items are expired/opened/used, then contact wholesale ninjas quality control

I had the same issue. I’m doing a test lot to see how it works for me. I had about 216 sellable and 42 unsellable which was way more than the 5% promised or what I’ve seen in Lindey’s unboxing vids. You could always contact them since their website says if it’s more than 5% they will make it right. I’m planning to keep some I would use myself and try to sell the rest for cost at a yard sale with full disclosure. If they don’t sell, I’ll probably donate them. Hope that helps!

My listings automatically renew after 30 days, unless I revise or end listing. Is there any way to extend the time? And if it automatically relists AND I got the initial information from another seller (sell similar), even though I changed/revised information in the title, specifics, etc does the relist pull old information? Sometimes? I have had automatic relist that changes item to new or used, opposite of my changes. Thanks! Love your channel!!!

I don't think there is a way to change the time. Ebay used to have an option "until sold," but they removed that

Hello Lindey - when you end an item (in order to relist) - eBay asks for the reason you are ending (I remember it asking if there is an error in the listing or if the item is lost - and I think 2 or 3 other options). So, when ending a listing - does marking or choosing one of these reasons (or the same one each time) mark you somehow as a poor seller or anything?

I'm not sure if you get punished for selecting certain things, but I personally wouldn't select "item was damaged" or "no longer available for sale"

Thank you for this! I was wondering. I have a question, so you mentioned that if you end and relist, you keep your watchers. Is that even if you change some parts of the relisted listing?? ie: if the title and category are changed??

I think it’s actually in your store settings and you can only choose one type for your store. Everything has to be an out of stock listing type so if you’re also selling a lot of one offs that model may not work for you.

The item that sold you edit the listing, go to the quanity before shipping area. Then add the new quanity & save the update. Thats it
