Finland never held any overseas colonies. The previous president of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari (who was born in a city we lost to Russia) received a Nobel peace prize for his peace work contributing to Namibia gaining independence. Finland itself was ruled first by Sweden and then by Russia until we gained independence in 1917. I do not have access to my ancestor’s homeland because it is in the areas we lost in the Second World War to Russia. That’s a few facts and I leave it for you guys to judge the situation. Not that what Finland has been involved in has much to do with me as an individual anyway.
