yeah, alcohol can't be a gift in competitions anymore. This is really sad because if you don't want to drink then don't but let people who want to drink have it. (this is for adults not underaged people lol)

I think, alcohol is too normalized in some places/countries. What's really miserable is to see jobless alcoholics linger in the streets or to lose a loved one to a drunk driving incident, etc.
I'm not on board with Erdogan giving religious ideology as justification for his hard stance. But I think, considering the negative effects excessive alcohol consumption can have on people's lives and on society as a whole, maybe a harder stance against alcohol and tobacco might not be an intrinsically bad idea.

Hardly, anything can be harmful, but its better to encourage moderate and sensible drinking as opposed to treating something like wine as a sin, which is absurd.@@IceQueenaliasIQ

He's killing Turkiye's everything. As soon as you get a theocrat in the top slot, that ALWAYS happens. People who don't drink because of whatever reason, because they don't want to, have as much right to do that as those that do want to drink wine have to drink it, ESPECIALLY if they aren't abusing the privilege in any way, like causing problems by being publicly intoxicated.

That's easy to write down but is that really true? I found this: "Alcohol Advertising Laws. The First Amendment allows for a lot of freedom of speech in general and therefore limits how much the federal government can regulate advertising, even in regard to alcohol. In general, advertisements of alcoholic products must be truthful and without deception". That statement means some advertisement is allowed whilst this video argues no advertisement whatsoever is allowed in Turkey.

Because Turkey is supposed to be our allied in NATO and Turkey has for decades tried to become members of EU, which they have been denied as long as they can't live up to European standards for democracy and human rights and economy! Still, it seems like half of Turkey is living in European, so it's not irrelevant for Europeans, in which direction Turkey is changing.
Turkey is militarily a very strategically important located country and has so far acted as a buffer to the more dangerous muslim countries and Europe. It's very concerning for all of Europe, that Erdogan prefers an Iranian like state rather than a modern secular democracy. Turkey is moving further away from Europe and closer to Iran every day. That's why we follow Turkey closely!

When your current leader speaks he sounds ANYTHING BUT secular. Race has nothing to do with religion, they are two separate issues, although they are often wrongly and ignorantly connected. People also wrongly connect fundamentalist BS with the real teachings of most of those religions. Neither is good. Connecting religion to govt, especially radical religion to govt, is virtually always a disaster, and it appears that Turkiye is already headed down that path, with something like 60% inflation, currently, and a leader that is more like ten faced than two. He's always trying to please everyone, which really means get everything from all of them that he can through disingenuous actions, from what I can see. @@KennyNGA

The government's idea or moto is this; We exist for the society, we were chosen to serve and protect the welfare of the society , them to protect public health . We, as the government, are not against people using alcohol or tobacco, but we do not encourage . Since the use of alcohol and tobacco is not of vital importance, I collect the highest tax from those who use alcohol and tobacco in order to close the current deficit. Those who do not use these two do not have to pay these taxes, but if they use them, they have to pay these taxes.
