Best summit basher is and will be with slight mods to the chassis. Use a revo 3.3 roller and use the summit trans. How the trans bolts in is close. But you will have to mod the motor mount area..but it will be a beast!
I have 4, 2 are brushed, 2 are brushless. My fast brushless Summit runs LEM (Leading Edge Machine, found on ebay) diffs, diff housings, driveshafts, + a few other parts. It's a blast...yes it's an investment to beef one up for brushless, but that's RC. Keep up the great content!
Subscribed today. Rec'd a used Summit 1/10 yesterday as a gift. Needs a lot of TLC. Will keep the mods to a 'as needed' basis for now. Glad to see they are reviewed here on You Tube. Good job...
Nice video again! I couldn't find major hobby shop website has 1/10 summit. Maybe they are going to upgrade to "ultimate" edition with bl-2s and capable gears for next year?
Glad you liked it! The Traxxas Summit has been discontinued from my understanding….they’re definitely not gonna be putting a 2s system in a Summit, it’s way too big and heavy….not sure if it’s ever gonna be brought back….hopefully there will be a 2.0 version or something similar in the future 🤞
First i ever break in my bone stock Summit are Spidergears only at rock crawling! I constantly break spiders 12 times a year now my summit "parked" 5 years in the deepest corner in my garage! Now my hardened spiders arrived anmd i try a new start! I search for a waterproof Brushless system same power as the stock because i often splash rocky rivers.
I have a v1 revo. Running 6S in it. I put a Spectrum 160 amp 8S capable ESC and a Castle motor. Haven't broke anything yet. Did replace the spur gear with a steel gear and steel traxxas axle shafts. Beast!!!
The Revo seems to hold up a lot better to 6s power compared to the Summit…probably cause the Revo was built for 6s power and the Summit wasn’t….my Brushless Summit breaks on 4s most of the time lol
I run 6s on mine. But I have LEM aluminum diff housings with their gears. The Summit Ultimate Combo. No issues. I have the LEM axles on the way. My system is the Hobbywing sensored combo.
Two gorgeous trucks. I’m eyeing the summit brushed motor model will hopefully acquired one in next year or so. For these types of uses I like the smoothness of the brushed motor.
You could run 3s on a Brushless system, but 3s would still be more powerful than the stock Brushed system on 4s….so you’d probably still end up destroying the stock diffs eventually
@@RCKnockout So like you said in your video, the Summit was basically designed to just handle its stock brushed setup? I was looking at a used one but the guy upgraded to a brushless castle creations 8th combo but said it was controllable on 3S. It's a decent deal so I might get it and just run it on a single 3S but I really have no experience on the Summit and am not sure how much it could take.
Followed ya for awhile now. This has got to be one of ur best vids. I have a passion for the Summit, but mostly left stock with minor upgrades, it really seems like a solid truck. Thanks man for the comparison. May be a new thing for ya, compare stock to upgraded. Thanks!
That motor isn’t really meant for an rc this heavy…it might be able to do it but it’ll get hot in a 1/8 machine like this….that esc is also not very good….I know from experience
@@simonshift I’m sure it would be extremely slow….it might be alright for crawling but it will most likely be gutless….I like to have a bit of speed lol
This thing wasn’t designed to go brushless (as the gen 1 e revo). I had one and it was headaches all day on 6s. The gen 2 e revo looks like can handle the brushless systems because of the center diff…
Yeah it wasn’t designed to handle brushless power….I know a few people who own E Revo 2.0’s….they don’t seem to like them that much…I’ve heard they’re not as durable as the V1
Hey Nolan, Any chance you can give a list of all your upgrades? Or links? Whatever is easiest. I’d like to upgrade my stock Summit like yours. It’s obviously an expensive upgrade but it seems rather solid now that you have it completed.
Hey bud! I try to leave as many links as I can in the description…feel free to check it out 👍😉 I don’t have links for everything obviously cause a lot of links sell out quick or the prices are not worth linking
Glad you found it helpful! That’s true that’s why I own two Maxx’s lol….unfortunately the locking diffs is something that is unique to the Summit and most rcs don’t have…it’s what makes the Summit truly special
Nice work Nolan the summit's really not designed to go fast if you want to go fast by the E-Revo people that have tried to turn their summit into a E-Revo give up on that very quickly because honestly it turns into a money pit
I need your address to send you the LEM center diff slop remover. I have an Xtra one that came with the ultimate combo. I had already changed it. It's free. Still in package.
This is why we need to keep bugging Traxxas for a brushless Summit 2.0. It's just too expensive and time consuming to upgrade the current one. I've had mine stock for over 10 years and have been tempted many times to upgrade but videos like this always keep me from it. The stock Summit is still a great truck though.
Why not go to a 2-3s brushless motor and esc take that 6s out. The 6s system is to much. Thx for the vids have watched most of your summit ones they are in some pretty cool places
Glad you like the Summit videos! Unfortunately you can’t just throw a 2-3s esc and motor in a Summit…it weighs 11-12 pounds….if you read the fine print closely on any 2s or 3s combo…they either say made for 1/10 scale or they put a weight limit..almost always below 7 pounds max weight….the strain from this heavy of a machine will cause constant overheating and thermal cutoff…I could just run 2s or 3s on the current system I’m running but it’ll be pretty slow…would kinda defeat the purpose of going brushless at all
That’s an idea….but the issue would be with an undersized motor pushing around a 11-12 pound machine will get very hot…might even burn up under the strain….also I don’t think a smaller motor would be a direct fit on this motor mount
Best summit basher is and will be with slight mods to the chassis. Use a revo 3.3 roller and use the summit trans. How the trans bolts in is close. But you will have to mod the motor mount area..but it will be a beast!

Yeah the spider gears are pretty weak….I run hardened steel GPM spider gears in my diff….also Aluminum diff cups so they can’t move around in there
Thank you for all the summit videos, I was going to go brushless but went dual brushed 775s and it's perfect
You’re welcome! That’s probably the route to go….honestly I’m considering a dual brushed setup for my single motor one too 👍😉

What tires are those on the right Summit
Rc4wd Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ 40 series tires
How would a brushless setup on a Summit handle a 3s lipo? Do you think it would have all those same problems?

Why not put the 4s brushless system that is in the Maxx? It would keep it 4s and not be crazy.

No I’m not sure if any of it is…maybe the suspension arms and some of the links are?
Had a Brushless Summit. 2560kv motor with a xerun 150a esc. Got tired of breaking spider gears in the rear diff
Don’t blame you…
Here for the summit
I wonder if it would be better to buy a traxxas e revo 2.0 and turn it in to a Summit ???
Not sure….it depends on what you wanna do with it?
