  • Almost without a doubt, my favorite type of music gear is the one that pushes me to generate new ideas... Be it a looper, a sampler, or generative sequencers. These methods prevent going through the “blank page syndrome”… it's about starting from an initial knowledge, from something inspiring.
Reading Haruki Murakami, where characters often confront repetitive emotional patterns influenced by teachings and experiences shared by their parents and authority figures during childhood, in a constant search for meaning and connection, I found a certain parallelism with this type of musical creation.
Much like in life, reflections can blur the line between the tangible and the intangible, the real and the imaginary.
That is the strange reality that these reflections can generate. In each one, something new and different can be born, like small windows to hidden and unknown worlds, and the distortions within them can lead us to discover unexpected facets of ourselves and the environment that surrounds us.
And it is through this reflection on such variability that we can view them as opportunities for growth and transformation.
In music, we can understand that melodies and musical structures can act as non-identical repetitions to the first, creating new compositions based on the initial musical learning, much like how Murakami's characters experience recurring emotional patterns and thoughts that lead to new experiences and connections in their lives...
    ...Reflections.
    Patch notes:
Today's patch is based on an interaction between the Yamaha CP-88 with Rhodes patch and the Eurorack set up to be a repetitive soul that captures melodies, small snippets, and harmonies, provoking new ideas. Make Noise Morphagene and Instruo Arbhar are the “souls” here. One leans more towards traditional tape recording forms, while the other delves into granular territories more quickly. Both of them, equipped with enough automation, become an inexhaustible source of ideas.
Each repetition and resampling goes beyond a fixed metronome, with the freedom to alter time and the obligation to focus on that dialogue.
I felt immerse ourselves in a cloud of continuous micro-dialogues, in search of something we still don't know what it is... because perhaps, as it often happens, the importance lies not in reaching a destination but in the journey itself.
At a certain moment, a sampling of choir voices bears witness to that part, sourced from a Kontakt library in Ableton, placing the final testimony in the dialogue.
Additionally, everything goes through the expert-sleepers ES-9 and into the DAW.

what a welcome video..................I'm sitting surrounded by wildfire smoke.......little bits of ash flying through the air outside.....the world looks pretty bleak here this morning...........so nice to hear something magical and delicate, to remind me that - if I 'reflect' on things - this is just a passing darkness............not only is the audio wonderful, but I can see you've gone to a lot of effort to put together a mesmerizing visual piece............love the choral sounding elements hidden in the bg........majestic and cinematic..........love the soft, edgy bite of the electric piano patch..........nice performance..............so nice to hear someone who can play, and also is a master of the electronics........

wow... Thank you so much Will... for such a nice review. I am tremendously honored that you liked it. I'm very sorry about the fires.... It is something terrible that I see happening every summer and in every country. And perhaps as you say it could be a good video to reflect on that moment. For me it was a very special video. Just before I went to the sea, I recorded it in the studio in a session that was just like that ... and when I finished it I felt something special with it and I kept it to go back to review it in summer and add something that I felt it was asking me ... just those voices at that moment (playing live I could not do more different layers and I have completed it in post-production here). And yes, most probably a lot of good and bad things will be temporary... As that wise man used to say... The future doesn't exist yet, the past is gone, and therefore the only real thing .... is the present.
When I was re-listening to it, I was imagining mirrors, crystals that reflect or distort reality... and I said to myself that maybe I deserved to complete the video evoking that image with the music.
Again, super grateful and happy that you liked it and it gave you something special.
I hope that soon, the future will offer a better present where you are. 🤗

The Rhodes is my favorite of all keyboard sounds and using both Arbhar and Morphagene to capture the full sound and microsound elements sounds amazing
