I worked at California Steel Industries just south of it before, during, and after construction. Mighty big - and amazing - stories we heard of what was going on. We all got free passes to the Saturday events of their official opening event, which I believe was an SCCA race.
Micah, the only thing that was left from the steel mill is the large smoke/steam stack they left as a tribute to the old steel mill. Hello from Phoenix Arizona!🔥 P.S.- Could you Please do a flyover of the old Lion Country Safari/Wild Rivers/Camp Frasier property in Irvine? Remember Irvine Meadows?
Suggested flight: west san fernando valley, topanga canyon, malibu. Many sites around here including rocketdyne/boieng rocket testing grounds, paramount ranch, malibu creek, topanga canyon, malibu, zuma beach, will rogers state park, etc.
For my birthday i went to my first-ever NASCAR race the first year the track opened. Just awesome! The people who worked at the track (the ushers) were so cool to me being a newbie. lol
The Speedway takes up most of the old Kaiser Steel plant, but the buildings/structures just to the south are currently California Steel Industries. Also, an additional bit of movie trivia; shortly before Penske started demo of the abandoned parts of the steel mill, a small part of "Independence Day" was filmed there. It was the part where Will Smith's wife & kid come out of the tunnel after the attack.
Hi, Micha! it was exciting to see a flyover from my home area of the Inland Empire since I thought it might be too far out. Granted, there are not as many exciting landmarks as the LA/OC area but we have a few hidden gems that might be appealing. -Castle Park -Riverside -The Mission Inn- Riverside -UC Riverside -Mt. Rubidoux- Riverside -The original McDonalds -San Bernardino -Victoria Gardens -Rancho Cucamonga -Ontario Mills -Ontario -Route 66 Wigwam Motel -San Bernardino Agua Mansa Cemetery (where Wyatt Earp is buried) -Colton I"m excited to see future flyovers! Thank you for the eyes in the sky!
Hey Micah, my most memorable of the AAA Speedway is the NASCAR experience some years ago thanks to a Christmas gift from my wife. An interesting story, the first trip we traveled up to Fontana for the coarse drive and we were early and required waiting for the open wheel class to finish their runs. Unfortunately a female driver crashed into the wall @ turn 3 and shut the entire track down. After an entire day of waiting and promised reopening, they finally called it. We returned a later date and I was able to complete my track runs. I believe the woman was okay. Thank you for the flyover!
I used to live about 1 mile north of where the Speedway in Fontana is located. But that was from 1988 to 1990 when the development was beginning in that area. The old steel mill was still standing and not much else was around when I was there. Hey Micah, come to Palm Springs!!
There are 3 parts of Fontana, Fontucky is a reference to the southern part of the city due to all the Truckers. Then you have Fontana (the central part of the city) and then you have the Sierra Lakes area (where all the higher end houses are.
@@dragodb No, Geographically its divided by the freeways. High end area is above the 210, which he did not fly over. Central part is between 10 and 210. and Fontucky is just south of 10 as you start going into Colton, Bloomington, etc.
I was there for the IndyCar 500-mile Race on Oct. 31, 1999, where Canadian driver Greg Moore lost his life in a horrific crash at the back straightway. that was the bad memory I will remember. Greg Moore April 22,1975 - October 31,1999 RIP
Micah, I think having Bill Burr as a passenger/co-pilot would be a lot of fun. He's quite the enthusiast. And after hearing his podcast during this quarantine, he is bored out of his mind. Haha.
Next time you do a video where you transition from one airspace to another can you talk about how you know where the boundaries lie? I think it was the Watts tour where you said something to the effect that you were "trying to stay on the edge of the LAX airspace" - are the boundaries land-based (like freeways or major traffic corridors) or does equipment tell you that? Also stuff like what was ATC Brian communicating to you when you told him you were going to do another lap? LOVE all that stuff. Thanks from a non-aviator
On March 17th 1948 the first Hells Angels Motorcycle Club was founded in the Fontana/San Bernardino area in the United States of America. About the same time, other clubs were formed in various places in the state of California, but none of these clubs were associated with Hells Angels nor with each other. Most of them do not exist today, but the Berdoo charter (San Bernadino) still do.
Best Memory of the speedway..... Back when it was "Pensky Speedway". My high school baseball team did a fundraiser there. The first year, we were info guest relations people for everyone in the pit parking area. Then 2nd year we ran concessions inside the pit for all the VIP's. It was really cool because I was one of the only players who was 18 that year and we had an outside beer station that I got to serve beer at. Was really fun asking people for ID's and getting the reaction.... "Really, you dont even look old enough to serve or drink it and your asking me for ID?" LOL. :) Good Times.
Hi Micah! I used to live in Fontana (2001-2011). I heard the name "Fontucky", and jokingly used it, too. I wasn't offended, and I meant no offense. It was just a light-hearted affectionate name for my town! But I don't know how others in Fontana feel about that! Unfortunately, my family and I had to move. :-(
Man i was so rooting for the shadow of your helicopter to cross the start/finish line on the track, technically it did because as you probably know it extends thru the infield to pit road.
Love your videos - especially the Disneyland flyovers. I'd love you to fly over the San Fernando Valley. However, I realize this may be a little far out. Thanks for the great work!
Hello. Being from Louisville, Kentucky, I'm curious how the nickname Fontucky for Fontana spawned. Love your flyover coverage, and appreciate your auto reviews as well. I've had a decent amount of air time, but only flown one round trip commercial(Embrarrer), Mostly hot air balloons and smaller cessnas. Thanks to my occupation at the time, I was blessed with 15 min piloting a blimp(unique physics in play there) that was here to cover the KY Derby(2 minute event the city celebrates for 1-2 weeks). Y'all should come check it out sometime.
Great to see auto club from the air bro thanks. Hey, I know your busy but would still love to see the 2020 fx4 package ford ranger not lariat. Thanks man!
I really enjoy your videos! Would you ever consider a Ventura County fly over? Points of interest - Rocketdyne, Reagan Library, Moorpark College, Cal Luthern University, Wildwood Park, Amgen, Sandstone Peak, Hidden Valley/Lake Sherwood. Thanks for considering. Keep the Flyovers coming!
I want to see you fly over my town of hemet just because on FB literally every time a helicopter is flying over ( usually its police or some gov agency) people always get paranoid and nosy about what's going on.😆
Nice view of my city!! Since I heard you mentioned San Bernardino I hope you can fly over the historical landmark the Arrowhead Spring Hotel. Please I was curious how it looks like now?

You’re right! I’ve collected a ton of memories at Laguna. Time to see it from the air.
Micah Muzio If you could fly over Carmel and Pebble Beach on your way up that would be awesome! Thanks for your great videos!
My best memory was 1999 NASCAR trucks and CART weekend with seats and RV hang out in turn three.
You're in my neck of the woods finally! Come down to Riverside like to see you fly over Lake Mathews or Lake Perris
Very cool once again Micah! Thank you!!
Thank you Micah for another GREAT video!
Somehow you managed to fly over my best friends' house who lives down the street from the speedway! Was pretty cool to see, cheers brother :)

Fontucky is not offensive as far as I know. I can't wait until you get to San Bernardino & Redlands. Thanks Micah.🤓
I’ve worked at the track. Enjoyed that view. Fontana had a bad rep, but it’s better now. Lots of newer homes.
There’s an RC track there also. You flew over it. Outlined in red paint SCS raceway
