Bill Nye has a bachelor of science degree he studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University (where he took an astronomy class taught by Carl Sagan) and graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering in 1977. Mechanical Engineering, is the discipline that applies engineering, physics, and materials science principles to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the design, production, and operation of machinery. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines. Including the study of mechanics, thermodynamics, applied mechanics, fluid mechanics and electricity. The mechanical engineering field requires an understanding of core areas including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science and structural analysis. In addition to these core principles, mechanical engineers use tools such as computer-aided design (CAD), and product life cycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, weapons, and others.
Nye occasionally returns to Cornell as a guest-lecturer of introductory-level astronomy and human ecology classes.
After graduating from Cornell, Nye worked as an engineer for the Boeing Corporation and Sundstrand Data Control near Seattle. While at Boeing, he invented a hydraulic resonance suppressor tube used on 747 airplanes, worked on business jet navigation systems and laser gyroscope systems.
Bill went on to become the CEO of The Planetary Society and helped develop sundials for the Mars Exploration Rover missions. Nye has written two best-selling books on science, including Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation in 2014 and Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World in 2015.

@@pauladams1814I really hate to agree with him, but he is technically correct, Mechanical Engineering is not a science because you’re not discovering things, you’re making the things discovered by scientists actually work in the real world. Still equally important, as there’s no point in having scientists if nobody uses their knowledge, but it is widely regarded as not being a a science in and of itself.
@@nykeMS24It’s not really what you studied that matters. It can have an impact, yes, but the reason most people study things is to show their dedication to a more broad field. Just because he studied engineering does not mean he can’t talk about science. He knows what he is talking about and has done far more research than you have on the topic. Engineering and science are closely linked, especially mechanical engineering which is mostly engineering theory, which is theoretical science. He has done research outside of his education and now seeks to spread that information he has learnt.

Hi, Bill ! Don't you know how solar eclipse occurs? Don't worry. I tell you.
Here it is: As you can see the moon lighted portion gets smaller and smaller as the distance between the sun and the moon is shorter and shorter. When the sun and the moon are concentric (parallel and one above the other( horizontal-distance between them is zero), total solar eclipse occurs. That is why you see not the moon conferrable y after the eclipse ends- they will be too close, each other.- see the definition above.
Also remember: A beautiful full moon occurs when the distance between the sun and the moon is the longest.
Both full moon and solar eclipse shall occur at least once a month for some location on earth, i guess.
So, there is no another way to explain solar eclipse and full moon..If you don't believe mee observe the moon and the sun for one month or more.
