I am a treasure hunter. So in addition to metal detecting, I go mudlarking at sites such as Dead Horse Bay. Think of mudlarking as metal detecting without a metal detector.

My Beach Metal Detecting Book: (Forward by Arkeolog😂) www.iratemetaldetectors.com/product-page/merrill-s-guide-to-finding-rings-with-a-metal-detector
Does this book help with finding rings in parks? I'm trying to learn and mostly hunt parks and ballfields.
@@stinkasscat yes there is a section about that. But it is much smaller compared to the beach information.
@@MetalDetectingNYC Thank you, I'm going to purchase it.
I wish you had a hardcopy, I would love to have that. If you decide to put one out, I will definitely buy it!
@@FlagPony I downloaded it and then printed it out on my printer.
I have been metal detecting for over 20 years, you have one of the best and most informative channels on TH-cam on metal detecting. Keep up the good work! Carl Johnson “TheDetectorGuy”
Merrill is the GOAT when it some to MD videos, educational and entertaining. Thanks
Thank you so very much! I have been trying to start metal detecting for many decades. I have a specific limitation which makes it so I am very motivated and work hard at whatever my goals are but I reach the point where I need to make a decision and I am mentally locked. I have a very successful career in Engineering but this is a constant issue that a couple of my buddies privately help me with. (I love them for it). My family is not able to but your videos make it possible to proceed with a short list to present to them so I can have all of my family including my wife metal detecting! Just thank you, so sincerely. Now I am older at 62 and er are going to figure out what to do next.
Just start saying WOW WOW WOW at every find EVEN yunk like the snake video 😆
I just want to say that I have only been metal detecting for two years and this year I started watching your videos and I have to be honest. Your knowledge is fantastic. You have actually taught me quite a lot for that fine sir. Thank you very much appreciated. Please keep up the good work And what a fantastic day this was for you
I agree.
Which metal detector did u purchase
The teaching and entertainment/humor is what has kept me watching this channel. It's cool seeing you evolve this channel. Please bring back the unlocks!
Thank you for the long time support W Diggz!
Sushi unlocked 🤣 priceless. Although im slightly offended my name is barry and im not looking at your hole. I feel i need to apologies for the other barry you met merril. Believe it or not barry is secretly a metal detector too and likes your videos
Nice intro Merrill !
+1 for the sushi ;)
Hi Merrill, I think that thing you found at 04:14 might be the cutting tip for an oxyacetylene torch. I found one somewhat like it a few weeks ago, and identified it by uploading a photo to Google Lens, which is a surprisingly handy way to identify mystery objects, in case you hadn't known.
It is rumored on good authority that Mr. Arkeolog, after his astounding discovery, rechecked the hole and discovered some true fragments of The Holy Grail! Always recheck your holes always! I kid you not.
I just found your channel yesterday. It has quickly have become one of my favorites. I like how you teach instead of just showing off. Thanks for the education. Great job 👏.
Thank You Merrill great video I love my 800
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year you and your family be safe
Great video!! That is real metal detecting for sure. Thanks for keeping it real!! All hale the silva king!!
Thanks for watching!
Don’t stress that much on the likes and subscribers. the people you have that watch really enjoy what you make and everything you do.
What an awesome day you had, congratulations. Also I’m so happy you got the manticore in, I really love you website and videos on metal detectors. You are the reason I chose to buy a legend and I’m extremely happy I did. I absolutely love that machine. Eventually in a year or so I’ll look into getting another one. But for now I’m enjoying the legend.
You continue doing what you do best and this will grow. Agin thanks for your videos and your channel.
I don’t think I’ve seen a video of yours I didn’t enjoy. You are the man Merrill I watch a lot of Metal Detecting Videos but I always enjoy yours the most. Keep it up!!!
Honored David!
"When in doubt, dig it out." has been may motto for years. And it does rhyme. As log as you're on a sand beach, dig on everything.
Yes!!!
That detector hits deep! Lol, Pulse induction depth. Congrats on the silver & gold finds. 👍
Thank you Jim!
Thank you for keeping it real. I am a long way from any saltwater beaches but I enjoy hearing your explanation of the art of beach metal detecting. I know that the field trips you take to farm fields and old homesteads are few and far between but if you're ever able to impart similar knowledge for those sort of sites, which I have an abundance, I'd be especially grateful.
6:34 I believe the item at this point was a lead acid battery plate, or the remains of one
Glad we have people like you that tell it like it is. Can't stand the fake guys. Thanks for keeping it real my friend
Thank you Kelly!
A red quarter is a thing. A restaurant or bar owner would paint some quarters red, and then use them in the jukebox or pool table. And when the money is collected, the red quarters are the owners, and they get them back.
Wow! That is fascinating Woody. I always learn something in the comments. Thank you.
Wow, that depth with the D2 is amazing. Looking forward to you breaking out the Manticore. Great video, 1K👍!
THANK YOU!
What a day Merrill Congratulations. Love watching your channel
Thank you so much Michael!
You make metal Detecting good I really enjoy your channel for the fun and enjoyment and help you give us many thanks
Thanks 👍
Yup like you said… the fake channels and planters will never know the joy of a day like that one. Awesome video as always brother! 🤙💯
Been detecting and watching to learn for many years but these videos are the best I’ve seen! Entertaining and real. please keep them coming😊
I have an idea why those channels get so much traffic. Phooey!Phoney!! Merrill you've grown on me. I really love your content and I hope to travel up to NYC to meet and dig with you someday. Thanks for keepin it real brother!!
Thank you!
Great finds! Must have been a blast to find so many good old items at the beach. Keep swinging.
Yes it was!
Yes I really enjoy your show
It is very important news about how to learn to use a mental detector I really enjoy your show my minelab got stolen years ago I really enjoyed it . But it less I enjoy your show I learn alot from it
What a whirlwind of finds! I thoroughly enjoyed this video!
I really like this video, so much so that I gave it two thumbs up 👍🏻 👍🏻 !
I only have the Simplex and the Fisher F44 but using techniques that I’ve gotten from your videos has really increased my yield. Thank you friend.
Be blessed and stay safe.
Thank you
First yippee. Aww thank goodness you were on the silver, you just saved my silver charm. The charm was on my medi-alert bracelet which was changed today, I forgot the charm until I watched the video, I looked down and no silver on my wrist. I got it back, phew. Bless you Merrill may you get 10,000 likes and an equal number of subscriptions for Christmas. Yuletide blessings for you and your family (not forgetting Bro and Sis).
Thanks Heather!!!
I❤️ how you're showing us close-ups of what you're finding!!!! 👍
Thanks Silver Surfer. The GoPro has no macro lens....The phone works a lot better for close ups!
Very enjoyable video Merrill, as always. The detectorist that did not vary from the coin line was probably a newbie to the detecting world. Or maybe just out for a leisurely lazy detecting afternoon. Thanks for doing your thing. Can't wait to see your review of the Manticore. Waiting for one I have ordered to arrive to be a companion to the NOX 800.
You should see me yell
At the telly you picking up all that stuff!!! I love that music!!! 😂😂😂👍👌
Glad that you pick up this topic 😁 thaught what the heck is wrong with this kind of channels because all people think its real what they do 😅
Thanks for your great work! Keep on doing your stuff like you do 😁🖖🏽
Great honest vlog expect nothing else from you as always keep up that great work
Thank you! Will do!
@@MetalDetectingNYC hi was wondering could you help please
I'm in UK and have found the nokta legend at £361.75 brand new from a shop based in Germany is there a way of telling it's definitely a legend it has full description or have I managed to find a German bargain he has loads of different makes deus2 was there at £648.38 and the equinox 800 at £721.21
Thanks regards Tony
Nice job on detecting and boy you had a day like we all wish for in the metal detecting world 😂😂 Hi Ho SILVER !!! You are about to open a new door into the twilight zone with that new detector you just showed it will be very interesting to see your next couple of videos on it and I look forward to it very much keep up the great work and yes I did give you like but not 40,000 on that other channel is a big ass joke anyway it’s fun to pick on somebody take care !! like I always say it out for now!!
A great two days detecting with a light heart humour.
I’m looking forward to your review of the Manticore.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORTS !!!!!!!!
Thanks for the tip ,keep swinging have a beautiful day.an a good hunt
Thanks!
Thank you so much John!!!
Mel, I hoped to see how quick you could recover targets with your new scoop. So far we’re just seeing the goods, which is great, but would love to see how that played out
Awesome Merrill thoroughly enjoyed your video learning the craft from the master here in Nottinghamshire's Sherwood forest. All the best JB
Thank you!
I've been detecting over 50 years and gold panning it's lots of fun when you're finding the gold.Like your channel for me it's easy to spot fake channels I skip them.
"Hold on im going to run out of film." 🤣 I catch my self saying that even though it's called memory. lol
Fantastic, always looking forward to the next video. You never disappoint. Learning a lot from them 👍
Thanks 👍
I don’t know how can you be so calm with the Manticore , I think I would had been in the beach for days 😂
Truth! UPS delivered it as I was making this video!
I would had stop the video and left lol
@@carlossantiago0234 I would be back on that beach with the core.
@@ArcanZA I’ve been looking at TH-cam videos and it looks like finally we do have a beast of a machine , if it wasn’t the holidays I would had one by now but I will get one soon
The silver earring , nice little stone as well. You get a nice mix..that grate is from a fridge (my guess) lets go all the way to 50,000! Learning lots here, teach. ...came back to the vid and ..chatski..... cracking me up ...LOL
Enjoyed watching your silver slayer day, Yes D2 is so deep on the beach 🏝️ 😎🥳🥳🥳🥳
You always have my like.
Excited about future videos using the Manticore.
Thank you!
Greetings from Asia. Here we have both markings for gold,: decimal and with the k. Love your videos!
🙏 thank you
It’s a brass ferrule for a lamp top , or decorative on a desk or such …I believe 😮
Great video Merrill, that was a good day, have fun with the Manticore I cant wait to see it in action.
Great silver day ! Nice to see you got your Manticore ! Still waiting for mine .
I have to say, I have dug some deep holes on the beach with the 800, while those I'm with tell me to leave it, it's only junk. I guess it's why I have such a collection of antique silver.
Awesome you got the beast.. wish we had a beach but we have plenty of farm fields in southern Indiana. Thanks
Thanks, great information here.I am very new and dig mostly old nails. Best sound I have dug . Turned out to be a lead pipe . Still fun
Awesome day! You are absolutely correct, if the conditions are right you are present, the finds will be found. I mostly hunt inland/old parks. For me last year conditions were perfect, parks department took a bulldozer and scraped off 12 inches of dirt. My best silver day ever.
This video was a pile of fun to watch. I have a CTX, a Deus 2 and am waiting for my Manticore, so I am living vicariously by watching your channel. The only thing I do not like about your videos is your swing pattern. I did learn a lot about your approach to the beach in regards to the low and high tide line. I did hear, don't remember where, to go from high to low and find the coin line and stay horizontal to the shore. Never again!!! I will zig zag as you instructed!
Thanks merrell always on top of things as usual teaching as you go. Saw you on quarter hoarder and it never fails if anyone is going to find a gold object it would be you.
The style is great. Love the no bullshit content. Keep up the good work. Cheers.😅
Wow that Deus is a beast with the right settings you get some serious depth, im surprised you didnt find any gold amongst all that silver, well done Merrill, Now lets see the Manticore in action.
I thought I saw a Guardian Sea Snake!...Nice job Merrill..Can't wait to get out!
Fantastic video, will be on the beach myself as ground rock solid due to ice in UK. Keep them coming.
You're doing Awesome!! I am getting ready to start my 54th year Metal detecting ( Dad started me at 4 in 1969) , saw one of those video's , laughed and said FAKE, lol . They are more of a comedy , not real ! Just wished I was in an area, like yours, where you have the opportunity to find more exciting very old history on a more regular basis !! That's why I click "like" on your videos before I even watch them, because I know it will be good and you put time ,effort and talent into making these great videos thank you !
I’m looking forward to seeing your upcoming Manticore videos. I would like to see how it does in Prospect park. Hope you do well :)
definitely educational, and honest we really love your channel, keep doing your great work, we know your value brother! Happy holiday to all of you!
Thank you so much!
@@MetalDetectingNYC Oh boy look at this on youtube maybe you saw it before "Dead Horse Bay: New York's Hidden Treasure Trove of Trash " on the ABC News channel so interesting!
Red quarters are from landlords to keep track for some reason. Also used by waitresses to put in jukeboxes in order to encourage patrons add their own quarters when music stopped. Found them before in change. Usually "older".
So being new and "only" ( i love it) having a simplex plus i can't hunt the water line like you can so i tend to walk the coin line more. So just saying that person could be in the same situation. Just waiting for some big hits to upgrade to either the legend or maybe a Minelab (just a little pricey). Anyway I've learned so much from you and so grateful you share so much knowledge, keep up the great content brother!
Wow!!!!! What a day you had and I'm so glad you shared it with us. You have me seriously considering getting a XP Deus II to supplement the 800. Great video!
THIS is the quality content I treasure hunt TH-cam for! I appreciate what you're teaching us, here. I also want to celebrate your hard-earned finds 🍻 CHEERS!
I've got two beaches I hunt with 8 live feeds on them. I'm constantly scouting my turf when I can't get out there and I'm not even kidding, there will be a dozen detectorists on the beach before I even make it there, and they're 90% on the wet sand. I tell my wife, 'They can't find it all.'
But, I will hunt the towel line and have been finding fresh clad.
IS THE COIN LINE THE SAME AS THE TOWEL LINE, OR ARE THEY TWO DIFFERENT ZONES?
...I'm still excited about clad because I'm still green, less than a year experience but, they're also spendable. I'VE GOT A VANQUISH 540 TO PAY OFF 🤣
Earning the payback has been motivational.
Okay, this is getting long. Merrill, thank you!
P.S. You're sense of humor has been an IV drip to keep me slogging through the TH-cam swamp for quality, authentic, people. Stay true!
Honored Matthew!
Do I detect sarcasm? Never mind, what was I thinking?!! You are a New Yorker! I enjoy your channel very much...very informative and interesting!
Thank you!
Yahoo! You got your 1,000 likes and it was well earned. That was an amazing day and a great lesson. Merrill your the best. Go, go, go.
Thanks Roelf! That was the fastest 1000 likes has happened!
Great teaching Video thanks Merrill !! Keep these videos coming!! Happy Holidays
that first ring you found ,,i found that same ring at the ocean here in Maine
What a hunt Merrill! I use ONLY your strategies and it's always onpoint! And your Honey Badger Scoop is bar far the best beach scoop I've ever used! I'm hitting the beach in the am after today's storm. Shorebreak was insane.
Hello my detecting friend! i am Frank and i am writing to you from the deep North of Canada most of Québec deep North! Man i love your videos i learned so much watching you and listening to you your the Best! The only thing is that you live in USA where there is thousands of beaches ! Here we have the most Lakes, Rivers, Crick and Natural forest in the world! So the beaches are either naturaly small or adventure sites and Camping beatches! I Bought a year ago a Vanquish 540 Pro Pack and for a first detector i am very happy and i like when you do hunt with it! When you use other Detector i listen less about the machine more on your technics of hunting.
Here we have 4000 years of history with the indians and 1500 - 1600 colonisations. Last year a man detected, 45 min from my little town, a 3500 old village all because of a detector! So newly retired, 31 years of saving life, from being and officer in special intervention team and crash and rescue. I got badly injured on a rescue mission broke my back i became paraplegic :( Miracles happen after 3 major surgeries and 2 bone transplants it took me 1 1/2 to learn to walk again!
So my doctors told me to slowly find activities that would make me walk and move and exercise to my limits! Beside being in the paradize of nature, fishing and hunting i discover Detecting! So i , plz let me kow if i made a good choice with the 540 pro, amd i equiped my self from A to Z for metal detecting. I red and watch so much videos and Boom , an other Miracle, i found You! BOOOUM SUSHI TIME!!! I think i am prety sure i watch at least 85% of your video at this moment and finaly had to write this book to you! Sorry for the lenght of this message but i wanted to say to You a Great Thank You for your work and you passion expessing it in videos! Plz dont stop, you are in my favorite and you cant excape :) God Bless you and you family, Thx again Frank from the deep North (Sorry for my english writing mistakes being french my talking and listening are lot better)
Publish on Amazon please so that I may buy some of your books.
Will consider, but I would rather store them on my website.
"A dolphin jumping over some bling" . Cracked me up.
Hey great video 👍🏽 our lass found a ‘zincon’ cent last week here in uk . Bucket lister
Thanks for all the wonderful videos!
You always have excellent REAL videos!
I like that coil on your Nox never seen that coil before I only got the regular coil one
Awesome job Merrill 👍. A very Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🎁🎁🎄🎁🎁
My wife said finding gold rings is a pipe dream until I showed her your collection. Ya like a bottle cap to a beer can tab the tone changed up real quick.
Top notch as usual! Thanks Meril!
The one you showed Jeff and called a pendant? Do some searches for "taoist silver coin charms". Looks a lot like one. Also interesting you found the yin/yang medallion as well. Both taoist.
✌️😎
Hey Merryl! Maybe the guy who dug before you didn't have a good machine for the wet so he preferred to stay higher up, in the dry. That goes to show you what you're missing without a good SMF machine on the beach 👍🏻
The chap in front may have been heading off the beach and didn't have time that day to keep going south!
The red quarter….vendors, businesses, bar owners, arcades…..they would color their coins to be able to determine where in the business the coins were being used, a tracking mechanism of sorts. I’ve dug red, blue and green ones, obviously painted or dyed for this purpose.
Red quarter is prolly from a hike box, would paint so they could get it back from the person they let keep it in their diner or whatever since they still wanted music still or wanted to get people using it
Hello Merrill, I know this has nothing to do with the video I was curious if you know about the old Roosevelt race track. This track opened 1940 closed 1988 seems like this areas would be a great place to metal detect although it's located in Long Island not sure if that's a long drive for you and who knows it can possibly be developed by now .
Very close to it Larry! It is now a movie theater. A lot of concrete and fill dirt. When I was a teen I tried out working at that new movie theater but was transferred to one in the next town over.
Hot cup of coffee and a new video of yours. Good start to me day.
Morning!
I come to your channel to learn how to optimize my results with my new deus II. For shitz and giggles, I checked out archeolog, and i was not impressed since they seem to find grave robbery ok. 😒. Anyway, thanks for all your hard work, and saving me time and trouble on figuring out my metal detector
Thanks for all your work
Good video,
20ish down on a beach WOW
12:20 Ha! Congrats!
That’s an outstanding day. Congratulations
Thanks 👍
Great video Merrill, I don’t live by any beaches in Montana, but after watching you I think I could do okay if I went out to the coast. Good day with the equinox.
Awesome Video Merrill you been keeping it real thank you.I enjoyed your video's and good Luck to you.
Liked video very much. Merrill you have always been an honest Metal detectorist That is what brought me into watching your videos. You have been straight forward on detectors and the capability of them. Plus your creativity in making the videos are awesome and fun to watch.. Keep on Going . You Rock Brother..
Please keep it up. I enjoy learning
Eagerly awaiting your first video with the Manticore, I'm really curious to see how it does in NY parks and beaches
