It’s time for a Korea v Germany v America EV SUV drag race!
We’re lining up the Kia EV6, VW ID.4 GTX and the Mustang Mach-E to go head-to-head and find out which is quickest over the quarter mile. So let’s see how they compare…
Starting with the Volkswagen, it’s the ID.4 GTX. This means it comes equipped with two electric motors which combine to put down 300hp and 470Nm of torque. As you’d expect, it’s pretty heavy, weighing in at 2,224kg, and a new one will cost you about £50,000.
Then we have the Mustang Mach-E. It also comes with two electric motors that can put down 350hp and 580Nm. It’s slightly lighter than the VW, at 2,198kg, but it’s also a bit more expensive, at £61,000.
Finally, we have the EV6. It’s the lightest car here, at 2,090kg, and it’s also the cheapest, coming in at £48,000. In terms of power, it also comes with two electric motors, with a power output of 325hp and 605Nm.
So will the most powerful car, the Mustang, walk it? There’s only one way to find out - LET’S RACE!

I got mine 3 weeks ago and it’s amazing. Unfortunately I drive it in sport mode and pretend I’m in a drag race at every set of lights, so my range has been reduced to 370km on a full charge 😂
The Kia still lost. What about buying an Aston Martin Vantage for £30000 and have £18000 for an Audi A3 TDI and £8000 left over for fuel for the next 5 years.

Aston Martins are famously unreliable, extremely needy of maintenance and greedy of fuel. So you only drive it at weekends, still need to fuel it at today's prices, and still need to pay for recovery, parts and maintenance. Oh, and those parts are not even remotely cheap. Not even BMW "cheap"
And then you've also got your Audi A3 TDI which is godawful slow, cramped and also pretty impressively unreliable. Contrary to popular opinion, the German car industry has been slipping down the reliability leagues for the past decade, and Audi is now in the spot that was traditionally reserved for FIAT (who, incidentally, are now ABOVE average - strange thing are afoot). Ally the Audi unreliability to their also, surprise, surprise, expensive parts and maintenance, and you'll be running through that 8k in a LOT less than 5 years. In fact, I reckon you'll get through that 8k the first time the A-M goes in for anything.
In comparison, the KIA has a 7 year warranty, virtually zero maintenance costs (it's common for all EVs, and especially KIA ones, to not need brake pads...EVER. In fact, the best advice is to occasionally deliberately brake heavily to ensure that the discs don't start rusting from lack of use). No gearbox to go wrong, no clutch, far fewer parts to need maintenance or replacement. And if you include solar panels in your budget, you can even use your car to store your solar AND get free fuel.
So how is that smug dinosaur grin looking these days?

I get goosebumps thinking about HOW SMART Kia (and Hyundai) were by pulling ahead in the electric vehicle game. Announcing the EV 6 and the concept car being fairly close to the one in production. And they're ticking every box. Its awesome. I like when the underdog pulls ahead and the big boys are trying to catch up.
Kia and Hyundai are in the process of absolutely revamping their global image. I went from only considering a Ford or Chevy pickup to driving home in a 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid. The dealership experience at Kia was better, the ownership experience over 8 months has been great, and the vehicle looks awesome and gets tremendous fuel economy. So I don’t know why I would consider buying another Chevy or Ford at this point aside from more exciting vehicles like the Bronco and…the Bronco. LOL
We also upgraded my wife's car from a Ford Edge to a 2022 KIA Sorento Plug-in Hybrid 👍 they've come a long way over the past decade or so 👍
Don't forget the Kia warranty is much better.

I used to own japanese cars (Honda, Mazda). Recently I switched to Kia and my next car is going to be Kia again. Really great vehicles.

In March we went looking for an electric car. EV6, Ionic 5, MME, ID.4, and the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y were the cars we considered. We bought the EV6, and the acceleration wasn't even part of the equation. For us, it's just the better car. This is just icing on the cake.

KIA Power! The EV6 GT has 577bhp, and you can get it for around 60k. More powerful and cheaper than the mustang GT EV, Best choice by far 👌
To be fair you won't get it for anywhere near 60k. more like 70-75k I paid 65K for my GT Line and sticker was 59,450.
Nope, Mustang GT still has more power if you calculate power to weight ratio, not just flat horsepower.
Also, Mustang GT is cheaper as it starts from 38K$ before state tax, though it may depend on where you come from.

Many years ago I had an original Kia Sportage, and loved it. especially when compared to its competitors of the time, it was fantastic value. I note that they are still very much doing the same thing!

Kia ev6 GT against Mustang mach e GT would be an interesting drag race but I think Kia ev6 GT would win due to Mach e GT only giving you full power for 5 seconds then it gives you less power to save the battery apparently 🤔

You are exactly correct. The Mach E GT is an embarassment. I owned a Performance Edition and sold it back to a Ford dealer before I hit 100 miles with it, and the 5-second limit for full power was my #1 reason. I doubt that I will ever buy a Ford product again.

that's not the performance version, that's the bottom spec, and kia don't make terrible cars, well, they made the stinger gt and that's pretty mean, but the mach-e gt has 500hp on tap, and not that fast in comparison to other cars of this power, but would have no problem against any of these, hope this gives some insight :)

That was pretty awesome. I’m crazy excited to receive my EV6.
I've waited six months for mine, with possibly another six to go before I get it.
We’ve had ours for two months now and it is the best car we have ever owned. Most surprising to me is that it has ride and noise insulation like a premium class car, so it feels super refined, in addition to being a typical great electric car drivetrain. Backseat room is also very good, and trunk space make it a great all arounder. It is a touch on the larger size if you are used to smaller cars.
While I wait, I’m just stacking more money as a down payment. When I ordered mine, the dealer said I would probably end up with the 2023 model.

I was at first pretty on the fence with cheap, affordable EVs (as in not millionaire-level EVs). But I am a BIG FAN of regenerative battery technologies and the last brake test SOLD ME on the EV6.

Plus they don't freaking fall apart. It's beyond me how Tesla are at the bottom of reliability charts when they got rid of the most problem-prone part of a car: the engine.
If they only could produce more EVs. Unfortunately tesla that only produce EVs will always sell more then the 🇰🇷.

And what kind of an argument is the fact that the cars weren't even a year old at the time of the recalls? This may shock you but recalls are generally done on *gasp* new models, where real-world QA highlights issues which may not be obvious during design.
Obviously having no recalls is much better, but at least they didn't sit on their asses like many other manufacturers did over time, hoping nobody would notice.
Never thought id see the day that a kia would now be more posh car, the prettiest car, the fastest car and more reliable. How times have changed. the line "its still a kia" will change definition soon. I wish they'd use this in the marketing.

Love the EV6, did one test drive with this AWD version and didn't expect that at all and the impression almost low level formatted my brain ... fantastic car, silent, very powerful, great autonomous features, deserves the win in all aspects. The most recent masterpiece, the EV6 GT with nearly 600 HP is probably near the price of the ridiculous Ford, and that thing is not from this world.
The future might really look like only South Korean and Chinese cars may remain on the market, the rest is just for people who like a status symbol and are will to drive the poorer quality, worse performance and much more extensive car.
I am German and I see our national car industry being way behind in the implementation of smart stuff and overly expensive while still living in the dream world of the golden past. With the global economical and political situation, where people have to live on far less money and energy, they may be out of business soon, if they can't develop something a normal person/family can afford without robbing a bank. Chinese cars will soon be flooding the European market and they are not bad at all, but have no service network yet, while Hyundai and KIA are already very big in the market and improving their products quality enormously at very reasonable prices, just look at this EV6. Does Ford or VW offer 7 year warranty?! Ford and VW has 2 years unlimited miles from what I could find out, and for anything more you have to pay hard cash, which is pretty ridiculous for a more expensive supposedly "quality" car that is worse in almost every aspect.
KIA showed the world how it should be. While in the 2000's I have been laughing about KIA, now I am laughing about the others, except Hyundai & Genesis, which are also rock solid and technically the same corporation.
I understand you're German but even as an outsider, I have to disagree with you about German cars. Are they late to the EV game? Sure. Everyone that came after Tesla is technically late to the EV game. Hyundai, Kia and Genesis *are* infact making some compelling cars, no doubt about that. But is the sun setting on the German car industry like you said, ceding power to South Korea and West Taiwan? No.
One look at the Porsche 911 will give you all the clues you need. Ze Germans do things slow, but do it just right. And technical complexity and exquisite quality will always come at a premium. No one considering a Taycan is going to look at a Genesis and go 'Mmmm'. *Not a soul.* They compete in different price points, different segments. There's something for everyone.
@@sarthaksingh5237 You sound like a German car maker ... Porsche is indeed a benchmark for quality and I think that still remains. I used to be a big fan or Audi and BMW, but if I want to lease some of their electric cars with less warranty than the modern Korean cars, I pay almost twice the price and then still have to live with some significant flaws with the hard- and software. Since more of the middle class is moving towards the lower income class, there will be fewer people who are willing to sink so much money into a simple car, when the costs of living go through the roof in the rest of our real lives.
I would also like to support the local companies but not at such a price point. I am not willing to cut down expenses on my hobbies that I truly enjoy just for a dumb vehicle to get from A to B.
I think they are digging their own graves if they continue to be tone deaf.

As an ID4 owner I have to say I think customers are being ripped off with the GTX. It’s a barely noticeable upgrade from a middle of the range ID4 and too slow when you consider what the two mid range other cars can do in this drag race.

Kia is kind of a sleeper hit. I think as word gets out and they can get production rolling they could potentially move quite a few cars.
A silent drag race is just not the same.. And while I understand the Ford marketing department's reasoning, I am still one of those that think the Mach-E does not deserve a Mustang badge. Especially if it's underpowered compared to a Kia!

Fascinating how the Mach-E isn't only inefficient consumption wise but also regarding making use of its power.
That's what Mustang have been since the first one. They look cool, they sound cool, but they are not using the power wisely and are among the worst in fuel consumption 🤣 if you take that in consideration this has the Mustang spirit. Still like Mustangs tho

If Ford wants it to be a Mustang then it's a Mustang whatever we may think, still, it's the same for good old Mustangs, it's relatively cheap for the power and is really cool, has a huge aura but is outperformed by cheaper hot hatches and drinks like a german trucker. The power number with electric cars really doesn't matter as much. It's alot more about the power curve. Ford has been very safe with the mach e especially when it comes with motors and the battery. It's why the car has a 12kw buffer in the battery but because it has a 100kw battery it still has a larger range then the EV6 and ID4.

The Kia is definitely the best out of the bunch in nearly every respect.
Here in Australia the Kia EV6 price starts at AU$72,590 which is a bargain considering EVs are very expensive here with cheapest being the MG ZS EV which starts at AU$43k. Big problem here is very long times between order and delivery. I've been told that if I order a hybrid Camry today I will get it this time next year.

I traded in my 2021 Model 3 Dual motor for the EV6 GT Line - Simply a better car, much higher build and paint quality and more features. Yes some of Tesla tech is better but overall the Kia is just nicer to drive, with a quieter and smoother ride. I had some issues with my M3 and would not buy a Tesla until their quality gets much better and they stop rushing to produce cars instead of doing some QC and actually caring about build quality.

Kia has really been on a hell of a run lately. They're shaping up to be a really big player.
Too bad the Chinese EVs are not allowed in Europe, it would be nice to compare as they have 500-600hp and better technology and range for the same or better price of these cars. Now the best EV engineers are hired at Chinese EV giants and on the Chinese market (the biggest one in the world) VW, Merc, bmw and likes are not competitive at all and losing sales badly

There is nothing compromised with my car. You get 7500 back in US and I pay $25 a month for gas. you can have your 800 miles and 17 year old car with no tech.
@@stubones yes since that diesel will last forever while everyone with a new EV will need to trade them out as often as they do their phones. It seems that people forget that building less cars even if they're ICE ones reduces mining and manufacturing waste significantly over getting a new EV every 7 years
Diesel and gas engines, simply mid ages just like the owners. That 320d eilm be smashed by almost every ev, no way you will do 800 miles, more like 800 km, no performance ( at least a 300 hp ev will give a good punch ), polluting like no one and contributing to rich arabs. Good choice mid ages thinker!
Love the Kia and the VW so it comes down to what your requirements are. If you want slightly more speed, faster rapid charging and sporty looks - its the Kia. If you want a more spacious cabin, bigger boot and panoramic roof, then it's the VW. The GTX is just over £50k and comes with a pan roof. If you want a basic sunroof on the kia then you have to shell out over £55k for the GT line-s version. My pick would be the GTX.
Hyundai / Kia / Genesis is absolutely mopping the competition with their latest offerings and I would even include Tesla. Once they ramp up on production, expect the cavernous gap with Tesla to close over the next 5 years. I think in the next decade, Hyundai / Kia / Genesis will sell more EVs per year than Tesla if they continue to push boundaries..

An informative video and great to see the regen breaking test, but I think the drag race results will have been distorted by the low value of the max speed of these EV cars of around 110-115 mph. With that amount of power and torque these cars would have hit the max speed limiters some time before the finish line for all of the acceleration races.
And the weren't even testing the Kia EV6 GT model. Damn Kia makes a good EV!

I gave Kia a chance in 2011 and owned one, all I know is that I never went back to other car manufacturers, I currently own a Kia and a Hyundai, very reliable.
This highlights what an amazing car the EV6 is. It's leaps and bounds ahead of all other typical EVs in basically every way.

I own a car rental and I ve used both and I disagree with U. Despite the outright lack f speed and some minor glitches here and there MachE is as good as EV6.
Tesla is also good but too sombre interior and design is not to every1s liking

I know what you mean, but the Ionic 5 probably did came out of the same factory as the EV6. Kia and Hyundai love to share parts across their brands and it is actually pretty cleaver.

Would take the EV6 any day over the poorly built Mustang Mach E and ID.4. EV6 will be far more reliable than either of those and has a much nicer interior.

If you ever go inside an Ev6 it feels tacky and poorly built compared to the mach e and ID.4. The interior may look flashy but it doesn't feel sturdy.

I own a Mach E GT Performance (GTP) and to get the best regen w/o one pedal braking is to have the car in Unbridled and press the L button. It is like hitting the brakes hard until 5 MPH then it lets go and the car will not stop. Works well in Whisper mode too.
Absolutely loved the layout of this video. Doing various tests. This layout should be the benchmark of testing EVs.
Kia really are killing it right now (and Hyundai). Im not quiet yet in the market for an EV but when i am i genuinely cant see a reason to consider anything from the non Korean manufacturers
