I developed an immense interest about Ancient Greece as a child thanks to this game. I asked my parents to buy me books about greek mythology and learned so much. I was fascinated, with that total sense of awe you can only experience as a 7 year old child. One day, my parents gave me an envelope and told me to open it and inspect its contents. I was shocked to find 3 plane tickets to Athens. My young sense if wonder made me experience unparalleled levels of hype. I wasn't exactly happy, more like extremely thrilled because I was going on an adventure to Greece.
That was my first trip ever. It was a dream. Thanks mum and dad.
Thanks to this game: the spark that ignited my early cultural curiosity.

I just found this game while going through some old NES tune. I had totally forgotten about it until i started to listen to the songs. My dad used to play this game. And i sat and watched while he played. I used to loved it. Dad passed away a few years ago. Listening to this game music brings me back when i was a kid and i sat on the floor watching him play in fascination.

Me too man, it took me about that long as well!

This was the greatest game ever created for the NES !! This brings me back to the basement days where me and my friends would play this game all day and all night for days !! It was a bitch when the console would freeze up and you had to start over again at your save point….you all know what I’m talking about.

This was my first NES game. A well made title. Starts off a bit hard but evens out as you get better gear. Most challenging parts were the first boss (arrow lady) and that damn Peloppones maze forest. Also, remembering how to get from place to place was tough.

This game was like the original Demon's Souls. If you managed to make it to Hades and beat him, you were likely carved out of wood by then.

Pygria is my own personal 'nam, i replayed this a couple of years back on an old NES i managed to get cheap at some weird shop and finally completed it, Pygria and Crete being the most stressful places imaginable, Pthia coming at a close second. When i was young i could never complete any of those 3, those eagles in Pythia are so rage-inducing, the maze of Crete and the ceiling runners, and finally Pygria.... I remember thinking that the giant snake must be a miniboss, then i saw 3 at once....

I'm conjuring up many great memories playing this game. I played both Olympus and Zelda (1 and 2) around the same time, and found myself more emotionally attached to Olympus. I enjoyed playing it from beginning to end. The mythology and my connection to Greek culture definitely drew me to this game's screenplay and vision. Could a game like this make it into a Halo like renaissance....imagination here I come.....

Awesome memories! Three things become obvious to me when watching this. 1. I can't believe I beat this game when I was around 10 (we had nimble fingers eh), 2. we must've been SO incredibly amped on adrenaline by the time we reached Hades (the intense music, enemies, jumps and all) 3. the lady has a longer skirt than the guy.

When talking with Ares in Crete, the God that gives you the Power Bracelet, make sure you have exactly at least 80 olives, or he won't give you the Bracelet and in addition he will take your Sandals away. Should you do this, you will have to return to Argolis and Hermes' temple, and then back to Arcadia and Zeus' temple to reclaim the Sandals. It is also double jeopardy, since if you fail to pay Ares at least 80 olives the first time around, you will have to re-pay him exactly the amount he wants if you want him to give you the Power Bracelet.

From the door just above the one you had entered here by way of a dead-end in Argolis, from that particular entrance, just make a high jump leftward to find your way back to Attica.

one of my proudest early gaming moments was beating this game. it was right up there with beating contra without dying at will. speaking of contra me and a freind would co-op it but we had to rock paper scissor who has to sacrifice themselves on the lazer board. as far as i know there was no way to co-op without the other person sacrificing that one time. if i remember it was because you couldn't stop for the other guy or something

someone mentions how brutal it is, losing half the olives if you die
    you can avoid that penalty
    sort of
if you hit retry instead of continue, it brings you back to the last god room where you got a password. so you could sort of "save state" by grinding the amount of olives you need, then visiting the god, then attempting to make the trip to wherever it is you are going and if you die, just hit retry.
especially useful when trying to get the sword of hephaestus, because that zone is hard as balls to get through without dying

    • @TheKageDFX
      @TheKageDFX 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Don't forget about the double 80-olive grinding for the bracelet and salamander skin in Crete. You might want to visit a god room between them.

LOVE this game. Super classic rpg. But why the hell couldn't they Think of a cooler boss to beat at the end? A shadow?! Really? I mean be original. Zelda 2 copy. Jeez. Other that that the game rocks. But good day to ruin it at the end. :( lol.
