@@brittislove I love Zelda II and have played it many times, but Battle of Olympus is so much better. The story, colors, graphics, creatures and music are all superior.
Battle of Olympus, Adventure of Link, and Simon's Quest were the three that really got me into gaming. I've always remembered Zelda and Castlevania and, a decade later, I bought an NES from Funco Land hoping to play BoO again. Except I had forgotten what it was called. I bought Rygar the same day and was convinced for about 5 minutes that it was the right game, but I came to my senses. Too much red and orange in Argool. I bought Blaster Master, figuring that my memories were maybe just warped from playing that. Of course not. It took probably about a year before I figured out the Battle of Olympus title. I got a cart and it all came rushing back: The music in the starting forest area, farming snake skins, riding the dolphin across the sea, finding the hidden doors. I got pretty far, but never did finish it. This is going to be a great watch. Thank you!
This game is a hidden gem. I loved it as a kid, it brings chills to me thinking about it to this day. Tears to my eyes how it brought our family together each playing certain parts. Fun fact on Phyrigia; Phyrigian scale is one of the Greek modes in music, and is the scale you'd naturally play if you played the white keys on a piano from E up to the next E. The musician on this game was clearly a music dork like me, because the music that plays in this region uses Phyrigian scale, which is rarely used on its own.

I wasn't obsessed with a game more then this one as a kid. Wish I would have known about that nice worm farm. That would have made the salamander shield easier to get rather than just stay in the pit like I did and get everything there . Great Video!!!!
Another game on this channel that I played this with my dad when I was like 5-6 years old. I became so interested in mythology that he bought me these giant books on the subject. He used to bring it up when other parents would say that games weren't educational, as in, maybe this game doesn't teach a lot on its own, but it led to a lot of reading and learning for fun. Good times. With no guides, it took an extremely long time for us to finish the game, though, haha.
It also goes to show how rudimentary games can be pulled together with very small teams. I know a lot of guys who are slaving away making games in their spare time that they've been working on for years. If a handful of them got together and promised to work on all of their games until they were complete, they'd probably be able to complete them. At all let alone faster, and they'd probably be better too since it would be more than just one guy working at it and overlooking problems other people would notice.
24:22 LMAO I remember. ALSO! Arcadia is the name of the bar I go to in Portland, ME and I would recommend it to anyone who might be visiting. Real cool place with arcade machines and pinball and skeeball and great cocktails.

Wow, Ultima IV is such a cool game. I beat the NES version, and that's the one I have nostalgia for, though the pc one is free and is pretty cool too, just harder to get into. I like how you correct "poisonous" to "venomous" lol
I literally was looking for the long play of this game the other day and now you make this video. After watching your Zelda 2 video immediately thought of this game.
I actually really love Zelda II and think it's underrated, but I'd never heard of this game. Was really cool seeing it, thanks for the premium choice and video.
THIS was a personal favorite of mine growing up. My parents scoured video and toy stores to find it, which they eventually did. This game is a delight, but yes, it is wildly hard and I never got very far (no matter how many times I picked it up through the years). Still it is one of my fondest memories from those early days.
I learned about this as an adult, it really does seem like a refined Z2 (also, more fun)! Also, I guess I need this, because clearly all NES games with Dolphins are God-Tier! Man, those skies in this one are amazing! This game was truly a labor of love!
Very nice. Also own this since childhood, and it kept me busy for quite a while. On a side note, you don't need to duck to block bears' arrows, at least I never do. Also the lady in the Temple of Hades only pretends to sell you a health refill but will actually just steal your olives and mock you saying you won't beat Hades. Cheers.
I love my dog so much - he's a really good boy. Would you believe we got him as a puppy for free? A 90 year old couple adopted him, and just couldn't handle the energy of Golden Retriever puppy. He needed a new home, and we got to the lucky family that took him in.
This was a game that took me several weeks to beat, as I learned the layout of the pathways. You just made it look so easy. Well played and thanks for giving me back a bit of memories!
I'm really glad to see this amazing game covered here; you make awesome content! Also nice casual flex with that low-geared minotaur kill while showing the skip 😄 Something I think could be mentioned to help newer players to the game: if you're having trouble with a respawning enemy, such as the infamous birbs or salamanders, kill it til it drops something, then don't pick up the drop. Enemies can only respawn if you pick up their drop; use this to your advantage! Also, you don't have to jump exactly on the dolphin to not die, you can safely jump over it 😀 Love the content much ❤❤❤! Great to see so many games I grew up with covered so in-depth!
There was something special about this game. I'm a huge fan of Greek mythology so maybe that was it. Never beat it of course but spent alot of time trying. Excellent game
Hey man, great run. I always heard of this game but never checked it out until now. Looks like an interesting game. I got two noteworthy ones I'd love to see you tackle down the road. The two Golgo 13 games for the NES. Both of those, especially the first are some of the hardest games on the system. The first one is Top Secret Episode and the second one is the Mafat Conspiracy. Both of those have some crazy twists and turns. I'd definitely recommend getting the manual pdf's if you do so, for the mazes BOTH games have. Keep up the great work.
I remember ordering a few second-hand NES games from a sales ad in the local newspaper. I previously owned Track & Field 2 which I liked very much and thought that this was another sports game (I was quite young at the time and as a swede, english wasn't my native language either so I assumed that Olympus referred to the Olympic Games). Boy was I surprised when I got the game and started it for the first time! I had already aquired a deep love for fantasy by reading many books by Robert Jordan and David Eddings and this game just blew me away :) It was incredibly hard though and I never came close to beating it. I specifically remember calling the swedish Nintendo Club (Nintendoklubben) to get help navigating through the forest maze, but I can't remember exactly how far I came before giving up. I still have my old NES with the original cartridge and some day I will pick it up again and show it to my kids, and hopefully we'll beat it together :D
I beat this game on my own as a teen when it originally came out, and watching through this video now, I have absolutely no idea how that was possible.
The fact that a game like this was made by only 3 people amazes me. There's a special place in my heart for works of love like this.
I love how buff he looks at the end, like a Simon Belmont-type character. The whole game he looked like a pip squeak lol.

Wonderful how you explain the walkthtrough and the history. But this game seems way more cryptic than Zelda or Castlevania
So, since the team of Infinity was made up of only 3 people, could this be considered a VERY early indie game?
It also goes to show how rudimentary games can be pulled together with very small teams. I know a lot of guys who are slaving away making games in their spare time that they've been working on for years. If a handful of them got together and promised to work on all of their games until they were complete, they'd probably be able to complete them. At all let alone faster, and they'd probably be better too since it would be more than just one guy working at it and overlooking problems other people would notice.
@@Prodmullefc Can confirm. I'm working on 50 games with a team of only four other people.
My "team" consists of me, a sole composer, and 5~ people who can give feedback on feel and conveyance when I have a demo in need of testing.
24:22 LMAO I remember. ALSO! Arcadia is the name of the bar I go to in Portland, ME and I would recommend it to anyone who might be visiting. Real cool place with arcade machines and pinball and skeeball and great cocktails.
That sounds awesome. If im ever in Portland, I'll have to check it out!
I enjoy this channel immensely. The pacing is perfect for playing along and beating these games side by side with you. Thanks for playing video games with me. 💜
Battle of Olympus and Faxanadu, my two favourite "quest" games from the NES! 😊
You might have to let me borrow this. I never heard of this game. Looks fun. Great video as always!
I recommend you do Guardian Legend
THIS was a personal favorite of mine growing up. My parents scoured video and toy stores to find it, which they eventually did.
This game is a delight, but yes, it is wildly hard and I never got very far (no matter how many times I picked it up through the years). Still it is one of my fondest memories from those early days.
Anyone who played it knows this is actually one of the best games for the NES, but most people never heard of it back then.
That second fragment of love was Simon's Quest Red Crystal Whirlwind level cryptic.
How would you know to do that?
By calling the dollar-per-minute Nintendo tip line, of course.
Cheers.
The enemy outside of Crete is Talos, the robot/Golem
Hey, I'm having a really bad time and your voice calms me down so much. Thank you for making these.
I like your game narration... top notch. But the gameplay from your dog... championship level!
He’s a very good boi.
I love my dog so much - he's a really good boy. Would you believe we got him as a puppy for free? A 90 year old couple adopted him, and just couldn't handle the energy of Golden Retriever puppy. He needed a new home, and we got to the lucky family that took him in.
Just found your channel. Love it. I'd love to see you do Dr. Chaos and Deadly Towers.
This was a game that took me several weeks to beat, as I learned the layout of the pathways. You just made it look so easy. Well played and thanks for giving me back a bit of memories!
The extra information you provide in all your videos is what makes them worth watching. Just doing a play along is boring, the info is top notch!
"What if I told you..." ahhhh Inject it right into my veins. Your catchphrase can never leave. It's my fave part of every video.
The sunrise effect during the ending was really nice!
Nice playthrough & commentary. Absolute classic....this game brings back old memories. One of my favorite games to play in my childhood.
I'm really glad to see this amazing game covered here; you make awesome content! Also nice casual flex with that low-geared minotaur kill while showing the skip 😄
Something I think could be mentioned to help newer players to the game: if you're having trouble with a respawning enemy, such as the infamous birbs or salamanders, kill it til it drops something, then don't pick up the drop. Enemies can only respawn if you pick up their drop; use this to your advantage!
Also, you don't have to jump exactly on the dolphin to not die, you can safely jump over it 😀
Love the content much ❤❤❤! Great to see so many games I grew up with covered so in-depth!
For some reason, i feel Yukio Horimoto may be a fan of children's card games.
Great video too! Love this game's setting and gameplay!
Wow just played this for the first time and couldn’t have beat it without this guide. Thanks for the history too. Great video walkthrough.
I forgot this game existed! Ugh...I'm forever humming the Arcadia stage theme!
I had already aquired a deep love for fantasy by reading many books by Robert Jordan and David Eddings and this game just blew me away :)
It was incredibly hard though and I never came close to beating it.
It's in your name. You're born a gamer.
this channel is doing god's work. pulled out a few of these over the last month that i got further than previously with your help.
