Is Arista EDU Ultra 200 black & white film any good? I find out with my Nikon FM10 in a small town!

- There is a lot of black and white film on the market these days, especially post-covid. There are the traditional, time-tested high end varieties, as well as the tried-and-true low-budget films that are attractive to both beginner and novice shooters.
This video shows what you can get from Arista EDU Ultra 200 on a sunny late-afternoon shoot in a small town. Whether I'm in a large city, or small town, I always try to capture the locals in the shot as much as possible. It's more difficult in a small town of course, as you feel the eyes upon you from the locals wondering who this stranger is and why is he taking photos of us? But if you just act like you know what you're doing (even if you don't), act like you belong there just as much as anyone else, and are pleasant with those you encounter, you can come up with some nice images.
I paired my roll of 36 exposure Arista EDU Ultra 200 with my trust-worthy Nikon FM10 and 28-85mm lens. I've run countless rolls of film through this camera over the past few years, and it never fails to satisfy. The lens is sharp enough for what I'm shooting, and the camera is basic enough to easily handle, yet has the comforts of auto-focus and auto-exposure if I'm shooting on the run and don't want to take the time to slow down with the manual mode.
My verdict? While I was satisfied with the final images in this video, I was not thrilled with the thin film and it's desire to curl quite a bit, making it somewhat difficult to scan, unless you have a holder (as I do) that keep the negative flat. Because I have such a holder, the curl isn't a problem when I'm scanning with my Canon EOS RP, as I do these images. Sometimes I go back and forth between my DSLR scanning vs my Epson V600 scanning, but still working out the differences and yet to come up with a definite solution.

Really enjoying your film photography. Started something similar myself last year with a Minolta x-700. Great fun.
That's awesome! I’ve never had a chance to use the x-700 but great reputation! Thanks for watching - more to come!
Is that music, ‘Joy To The World’? I have an old Canon F1AE from my newspaper days. Every so often, I’ll run a roll of Fujichrome Provia just to stay sharp. However at $30 a roll, I am shooting slide film less and less, nowadays.
Ouch! Too rich for my blood lol I like to stick with Kentmere 100 or 400 in general, but trying some different film out. This was actually from some months ago, finally catching up on getting them out.
Hi Jason
I enjoyed your video! I don't shoot film however I came across a Nikon N50 with a 35 - 80 lens for a whopping $2.00. I have a Nikon Em with a 50mm lens. Nice video!!
Best
Duane
Thanks my friend!
The weather must be nice in Indy
lol catching up on some videos after finally getting the images scanned right! I wish it was humid out right now!
