@Jam AK 4 years of southern Kung Fu, mostly forms from Hung Gar. Then 4 years of Ba Gua. That's where the internal study began. Then on and off training in various styles of Kung Fu. Most of the truly advanced training came from sharing techniques and theories of movement with other Kung Fu experts. Never studied Karate other than studying DVDs. No experience in Jui Jitsu or Judo.
My compliments for your work Rick Hotton Sensei. I'm a Goju ryu practicioner and I love this video because you understand perfectly what is the essence of karate and you transport that to your style. Congratulations.

He is the Mikhail Baryshnikov of Karate making what he does seem effortless for the same reasons. And to quote Michelangelo, “The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.”
i'm not a fan of shotokan, even with its Japanese masters but Mr. Hotton gives a whole lot more of atmosphere to Karate that's so fascinating to me personally. What a great master

Awesome speed and power in all techniques . I'm an ITF taekwondo Teacher and we do something similar called, Sine Wave. What I found amazing about yours is the lack of mechanical pattern ( the # 1 followed by # 2 motions or start and end)..is fluent, explosive and very powerful. Great!

He might actually be the one to watch out for. some "black" belts have ONE BELT for 20 years. Depending on material, the belt Disintegrates or shreds , IT DOES NOT WEAR EVENLY LIKE I SEE MOST OF time on most "masters". (experienced karateka knows what i am talking about).
that means nothing... some high rank Black Belts like to have a belt in good condition = buying new ones after they become "white", also many wrought black belts are made from silk = they become like that very early - the belt means nothing, a 1st Dan is only the beginning of a long journey, it's the skill that shows who's good or not

Don't hit with nkute if you didn't train your finger. I did with little force to soft part of a sand bag and i end upp with mallet finger😅 it is not painful but it take months to recover. It takes too long to recover. Skip nkute😅.
I did shotokan for 10 years, we need to change the focus off perfect form to self defense again. Use head gear and proper sparring gloves. Add in throws and grappling. This is the modern world
Pinto San Good observation. Even though he developed his karate in USA and, to the best of my knowledge, not from Asai Sensei, he certainly does have a similar way about him. The one thing I spotted were his feet. Both guys have the same shaped 'flexible' feet. Don't you think?
I like the detail of your techniques and the mechanics of them, but please tell me how they would work against anyone on the street who knows how to fight?
All these philosophical analyses are very controversial. It is true that older Okinawan styles use many "esoteric concepts", but any benefits derived thereof are counterbalanced by the techniqes of more modern and efficient styles.
