    Hi. I have made 2 batches 1 with olive oil and 1 with grape seed oil and essential oil. Each batch has developed some kind of discolouration or contamination of some sort after about 3 weeks. Any ideas? Thanks.

      @OurGabledHome  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are keeping your tallow balm in an airtight container in a dry and cool spot, it will last a long time, typically between 6 to 12 months. However, ultimately it depends on the quality and purity of the ingredients you use. Also, only use clean hands or utensils to scoop it out of the jar. You can extend its shelf life by adding some Vit. E oil or rosemary essential oil.😊 ~ Anja

Would love to add in tallow. I used more of the butter and very little oil, so idk why it ends up feeling so oily. Would love thoughts please ♥️🙏🏼

    I just made it following your instructions. It turned out great. And you're correct, there's a lingering aroma of tacos to it that it will not go away. But I see why it's great for skin. My only concern is that it's going to clog the shower drainpipes, because it's so thick and dense. I don't think I will apply it to all my body after shower, just sparingly to heels or hands. Thank you for sharing.

    How about adding a bit orange blossom water for the scent?

      You can do that!

      If you add water, you will need a preservative unless you intend to refrigerate and use it up within a few days!

    Hi, can I use coconut oil as the oil ingredient?

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you can. Just make sure it's Fractioned coconut oil. It is another great choice as a base oil. It easily penetrates and moisturizes the skin. But since it only is a “fraction” of regular coconut oils, it remains liquid even at lower temperatures. 😊 ~ Anja

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends. Easily 6 months if you use high quality ingredients, use clean hands/tools to scoop it out, and keep it in a dry, cool place but possibly up to 12 months 😊 ~ Anja

    Does this tallow moisturizer have you walking around perpetually smelling like beef or with a feminine floral scent? I am trying to find a way to moisturize with beef tallow but not walk around smelling like food. I am also a man so I would like to avoid feminine scents as well.

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My tallow balm has a very faint beef smell that dissipates quickly. But you can add more woodsy/masculine essential oils if you like (like pine, cedarwood, or eucalyptus)

    Oh dear ... I tried this recipe tonight and it worked, it FELT and LOOKED lovely... but the smell was still way too meaty or animaly for me 😔😬 i used both lemon and lavender essential oils but I couldn't deal with the smell. Oh well, it was still fun to try!

      @nicolapicola4502 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OurGabledHome I used store bought, but I did wonder if it would have given a different odour if I'd rendered it myself, do you think so?

    • @lilywhitepurity
      @lilywhitepurity ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If rendered very gently, tallow and lard will have a mild to non-existent smell.

      I work with beef cattle, we get the all fat back from our processed animals. Our tallow is yellow ( grass fed, grass finished beef will have yellower fat); no odor. I will try this. I process it,store in glass jars after double straining it. I freeze some too. The fat from around the kidneys is superior in my opinion, and it makes great French fries.
      I also raise pastured pigs, but the lard does have an odor with the leaf lard being the mildest ( least piggy smell). There is very little leaf lard in a pig, it’s the fat from around the kidneys. It makes great biscuits and pie crusts. I would not use lard for skin care personally. Better for baking in my opinion.
      We have been raising cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys for over 38 years and using the fat from them in my cooking. My family has eaten these natural fats all along and none of us are overweight. I’m really glad to see people using natural fats again.
