I bought epic rendered beef tallow, jojoba oil and lavender essential oils at Whole Foods, followed this recipe and my whipped tallow balm came out perfectly! Thank you for showing us this recipe!
I just made it following your instructions. It turned out great. And you're correct, there's a lingering aroma of tacos to it that it will not go away. But I see why it's great for skin. My only concern is that it's going to clog the shower drainpipes, because it's so thick and dense. I don't think I will apply it to all my body after shower, just sparingly to heels or hands. Thank you for sharing.

If you are keeping your tallow balm in an airtight container in a dry and cool spot, it will last a long time, typically between 6 to 12 months. However, ultimately it depends on the quality and purity of the ingredients you use. Also, only use clean hands or utensils to scoop it out of the jar. I work with beef cattle, we get the all fat back from our processed animals. Our tallow is yellow ( grass fed, grass finished beef will have yellower fat); no odor. I will try this. I process it,store in glass jars after double straining it. I freeze some too. The fat from around the kidneys is superior in my opinion, and it makes great French fries. I also raise pastured pigs, but the lard does have an odor with the leaf lard being the mildest ( least piggy smell). There is very little leaf lard in a pig, it’s the fat from around the kidneys. It makes great biscuits and pie crusts. I would not use lard for skin care personally. Better for baking in my opinion. We have been raising cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys for over 38 years and using the fat from them in my cooking. My family has eaten these natural fats all along and none of us are overweight. I’m really glad to see people using natural fats again.
I’ve been making tallow balm. This last batch is really creamy. I used a 1/4 ratio with oil. I did 28 oz of tallow I rendered, an 7 oz of oil. I remelted an added for more 4 oz of tallow. Still more creamier then whipped like it usually turns out. Im currently remelting an adding more tallow to see if it firms up more. Any suggestions?
Since these are all natural ingredients there can be variations. I would say, yes, remelt and gradually add more tallow until you get your desired consistency ~ Anja
