  • I'm building a DIY dual axle braked car hauling trailer on a budget of under €600.
This episode I am building the axels. I'm using two pairs of rear axels from a VW Polo. This will enable me to use the drum brakes as the trailer brakes.

Hi, I used the rear brakes from a VW Polo, these are drum brakes with a cable hand brake (e-brake). The cables can be joined together and to the hitch brake.

I think the word you're looking for is axle---axel is a jump in skating

Would stick welding hold up to the weight of a car over time? Isn't mig or tig stronger?

I could be wrong but my understanding is that stick is plenty strong, tig would help control the heat but it's not really a concern here.
Stick is used in many fields when strength is needed. Different specifications of rod is available for high tensile work etc.
I think the strength of the weld is more about how good the weld is, rather than the means of doing the weld.
I hope this answers your question.
