Hi md, i think you should make the extra tank a scape for a very colourful galaxy koi betta (its just a type of koi betta). I have one and i am looking for some ideas. I want my betta to pop in a tank. I just cant nail the scape.
Tx for this great content MD! Ive learned so much from your videos and im loving all the natural set ups and no filter videos! I have a question, id like to learn more about anearobic bacteria and how they could be important in your aquarium. The thing is that im not sure how kmportant they really are and how much i have to do to create anearobic bacteria. I always thinking variation is key, but how much? Can you do a video about it maby, sharing your knowledge about the subject? I think its an very underrated subject
My man, you offer the best tank build content on TH-cam. Thanks for giving ways to save money and ways to accomplish complex looking tanks in a step by step process. Thanks so much. My mum was a scouser from Liverpool but moved to the states, got married and had a family. She and my dad let us keep ALL manner of pets to include fish, snakes, tortoises, just to name a few. Cheers sir.
@@oftheHowl ‘thanks for giving ways to save money’, thats what he said. He did not say MD does fish tanks the cheapest possible, because aquascaping is expensive one way or another. In this video alone he gave ways to save money, by getting a superfish rimless aquarium and lighting, cheaper than ada. He used top soil and sand, way way cheaper than ada

About to start my first aquarium/aquascape ever and binge watched 50+ of your videos in preparation. First off, thanks for all the stellar tips and inspiration. Second, this is my favorite scape that you’ve made. Thanks for all the hard work and please keep it up. A lot of us out there look up to you for advice and ideas. 🙏 🙏

I love dirted tanks. All my tanks are dirted tanks, even the high tech ones. Recently I've had a lot of success mixing organic potting soil with the laterite red soil from where I live and a teeny tiny bit of crushed coral.
Thanks for sharing your craft. I've been out getting mud, soil, sand samples to start a dirted tank. Spent all afternoon getting aquatic plants from local ponds to try my first micro ecosystem tank.
Perfect fish for that scape. Normally I hate scapes with floating plants, but in this case they match the Autumnal feel perfectly, and because of the wood you've used, look like low-hanging leaves. Don't know if you intended it to look like that, but it certainly gives it more of a diorama feel than just another tank with stuff in it. Well done :)
Would be cool to see you take on a Walstad method tank combined with the dutch styled tank. No hardscape, just lots of stems. Never seen a dutch-style setup without CO2 and filter! Great work!
A wonderful looking tank as always! Working on a 70 Gal Rainbow tank myself... i would say for the rework, a mini jungle tank! With an imposing focal point such as a chonky root coming right out the tank. Plenty of mosses and some unique dwarf air plants planted on/around the root would look killer! Then to top it off, some dwarf white frogs or other type of frog would be really neat! would bring that vibe together nicely. Keep On Swimming from Canada!
Looks so good with the white betta against the dark background and red plants. I'm sure that wood is going to release tons of tannins. A small mesh bag of charcoal hidden in the back can help pull them out reducing the need for multiple water changes during the first few weeks. Or letting it go completely black water might look cool too! For the small tank how about something you haven't done in awhile like a small paludarium? Maybe mixed with a minimalist mountain scape jutting out of the water in the corner very rock heavy with small plants carpeting? I can't wait to see what you come up with!
I’m so glad you’ve been experimenting with the different soils. I used compost trying to do a walstead inspired set up and couldn’t figure out why my plants were rotting at the root until you figured it out for me. Thank you! Love your content
You are my FAVORITE TH-cam channel and Fish Shop Matt is my second favorite. I went back and watched every single video you’ve ever posted from your first short videos; where you didn’t even talk. Did you fix your living room aquarium?
This is one of my favorite builds so far! I love how everything ties in perfectly at the end. Your energy is something I always look forward when I click your videos and your content definitely one of the best on the platform. One day I hope to make a giant ecosystem tank like yours! Keep it up MD!

Thank you so much for the educational videos, and I am here planning on how to make a super natural looking tank before I even get my fish ❤
This turned out amazingly beautiful! Well done! It's really inspiring. As for a new build for the old tank, I think you should ask Matt to choose a fish, and you make a scape inspired off that.
Love this tank. I gotta say man I’ve been following for about 2 years now and this has to be one of my favorite builds you have created. All the reds and pinks to browns and greens. Very nice contrasts. Keep up the great content!
Beautiful tank, love those bright pink stems! For the old tank I'd love to see you do a new betta setup but this time using tiger lotus plants and showcasing a single female betta! I know the males are stunning, but I recently learnt that a huge % of females get culled as part of the betta breeding process because they're less in demand than the males. I think that's such a shame, as often the girls can also be super colourful and have great little personalities too. I know you've previously done a sorority tank and that was awesome, but perhaps if you used this old tank to do a new aquascape showing off a single female, it might inspire others to also consider giving a home to a girlie betta rather than just automatically going straight for the boys :-)
Love this , I've only had betta girls and probably only will ever ,I love them they are such fun and so love attention, beautiful intelligent little fish
I love my little girl, she has the best personality and she’s gorgeous as well 😊 quite beat up when I got her, but her fins have grown in so so much , it’s amazing 🤩
I wish plants where cheap in the U.S. after watching your videos for over months I decided to build my own betta tank based on your videos. I use the API root tabs and all. Not as many plants as I wanted. Spent over $170 on plants but let’s hope they grow nicely and cover a lot. Wish me luck and let’s hope my set up works
youve convinced me after watching for two years to finally do videos of my favorite things, AquaScaping I'm starting with my trusty S9+ as you did years ago hope to get to your level one day
Hi MD just wanted to thanks you for all of your great video. Im from france and everytime i watch one of ur video i want to do an aquarium so much ! Keep Going
Tank came out great! I highly recommend a RODI filter with Seachem equilibrium (if you are using rock like senryu stone you can sometimes skip the equilibrium). If that API stuff is like Seachem prime, then it removes the chlorine by binding it with ammonia until it can be consumed by biological filtration.
This is an amazing aquarium. You've inspired me to start my journey on keeping tanks and from having just one small cube for my betta ( he's a hellboy too, so yay). I'm from West Bengal in India, and we have an extremely nano beauty named the Scarlet Badis, which I'm sure you know of. They're also called Dario Dario, these guys are just 0.8in fully grown, and they're the smallest cichlids you'll ever come across. So full of character and they just love planted aquariums. I would request you to please please make one set up for them using the tank you've got empty and at hand now.
My female dumbo betta has, what I call, “lacey wings” too! Lol. Your betta is beautiful and your tanks are always amazing 💯 Keep up the great work, it's very appreciated 💜
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you, MD! I really enjoy your videos. I have watched sooo many videos about scaping, aquariums in general and was always feeling not good enough or not knowing enough (even though my betta and shrimp do great :)). And I always felt like I had to chase after so many things: A better light, a better filter, better soil, plants, do I need co2?... You name it. But your content just really makes me happy. It's so relaxing and inspiring. And it makes me think about what I can change in my tanks without having to spend tons of money. I really feel how I get creative and into my own projects. This weekend I will finally start rearranging my betta cube. I bet he'll thank you, too :) Greetings from Germany!
I would love to see a simple shrimp cube scap, minimal amount of plants, a piece of wood and enough space to see the shrimps swimming around, we haven’t had shrimp videos in a while, would love another scape or an update at least, keep up the good work amazing content as always
7:24, for everyone who is reading this just know that everyone makes mistakes even MD, and that's no problem. Don't be afraid to make mistakes but just learn from them! Anyways MD, great tank as always! Keep it going!
Tank Suggestion:- Baron, cliff like canyon. Think wild west.. Tall earth coloured rocks, pathways.. the odd bit of foliage dotted around. A native american landscape submerged with small fish inhabiting a forgotten land. ✌
For the spare aquarium, I would love to see how you would scape a tank for some chili rasboras. I'm planning to keep some for myself and your creativity would surely inspire me on what I would do with mine.
you always blow my mind!!!!!! what can i say every work its just perfect! i always wanted red plants but all said need CO2 and u made it without just amazing
Your plants look flawless. 2 Qs A. How do you keep algae out? Is your plant nursery algae free before you even plant them in your new tank? B. Do you inject Co2? Bubbling from the plant leaves always seem to be more probable for Co2 injected tanks..
Another amazing build... You've inspired alor of my builds and can't believe how sweet it looks when done...thank you so much MD...more shrimp tanks please
Dirtied setup, no filter and red plants. Love love love so much. Ive never have really red plants, so its down to lighting you say. I like it so much im going to save these vids of the tank and use it like a tutorial, so well explained, really appreciate it. Hopefully i get something like these results.
I thank you oh so much for this video you had explained everything in details. I purchased my betta a few days ago, I've called them and explained that he wasn't eating. The store reply just feed him every other day and besides we have a 15 day guarantee, this wasn't what I wanted to hear so thank you again for the fish food recommendation. Oh I forgot to mention, I hope you can do a setup of panda guppies or rice fish, they'll look awesome with your creations. Nice work!
MD, I’ve been following you for a while now and this is by far your best scape. Well done man. You’ve inspired me to scape a 3.5 gal bowl, 10 gal, and I’m waiting on plants to start my new 60 gal! I wanted to try something like this too, super red!
You’re other betta video made me want a white dumbo so bad when I’ve tried so hard to resist the temptation for new fish. This just made life even harder 😂

I want to start doing this when I get a house. Its so peaceful and educational
The wood is a really lovely colour. Compliments the red fauna nicely.
Learned a lot of making my aquascapeing much better, especially on substrate and wood staying down instead of floating.
If you are going to give him tank mates, I think green neon tetras or kubotai rasboras would pop in that tank. Really creative build, MD. Take care.
Cool
This is fantastic! It really looks like a submerged tree. The color is amazing.
Bravo, MDFishTanks! As usual, you've elevated aquarium aquascaping to the level of art, composition, and sculpture. Your tanks always look AMAZING! :)
The reds are so pretty! My favourite build to date!!!
Wow! Absolutely brilliant, the wood looks amazing. Thank you
Tank Suggestion:-
Baron, cliff like canyon. Think wild west..
Tall earth coloured rocks, pathways.. the odd bit of foliage dotted around.
A native american landscape submerged with small fish inhabiting a forgotten land. ✌
i love how much this man loves his fish
Wasn't expecting an MD video today. What a great surprise!:)
The autumn vibes are strong with this one
This is the most beautiful scapes I've ever seen 😮
Your freshly set up tanks look better than I could ever get mine to after months of trying to grow out plants to fill it in. Maybe someday…
Your plants look flawless. 2 Qs
A. How do you keep algae out? Is your plant nursery algae free before you even plant them in your new tank?
B. Do you inject Co2? Bubbling from the plant leaves always seem to be more probable for Co2 injected tanks..
wow.. ive been watching ur videos for a long time and Ive drawn inspiration for my tanks.. tq for doing u...
Wake up to this
And my day got a whole lot better
Thank you MD😊♥️
Hi MD Wow. Straight up the most beautiful tank you've ever done. Nice.
I absolutely love this tank. Gorgeous! One of your best builds!
The beta looks stunning in that tank🔥🔥🔥
Aside from the Amazon tank ( we need an update!!!) this is my favorite tank. Sooo beautiful. Nice job MD!!!
Another excellent build MD! Your Betta is going to love it!
This is one of my favorite builds you have done. When I see MD made a new video I know it will be a great video! Keep it up!
Shout out to API 👏
Loyalty from both sides 😂👍
love this scape! I wish I could get my red root floaters fire red like yours, but they are green and multiplying like crazy so they are happy
Wow!! Just wow!!! Beautiful tank. My half moon Betta is getting a new tank now.
Wow amazing! Tank looks deep with the different colours- great work MD x
Bopping away to Freek-a-leek petey pablo in piano form in the background what a g loving the detail you put out MD I’ve not missed a video recently!
Looks amazing!!! The Illusion of depth it just awesome!!!
Nice work!
This tank is insane! I absolutely love it!!
I Loove his new home… he looks so gorgeous 😍😍😍
LRBretz Aquatics got me into no filter tanks, love the final build!
MD put gobies in that tank. They're massively underrated. African dwarf frogs are another good option.
Love the tanks! Thanks to your vids I got the courage to completely overhaul my two tanks, so thankyou! :)
Great setup! You are becoming my aquarium youtube hero!
Wow!!! This tank is stunning!! I think it's my absolute favorite!! 😍
