Prefilling oil and fuel filters is a great way to introduce debris (whatever contaminants are in the oil bottle or fuel can-sand, dirt, metallic particles) directly into the engine bearings or fuel injection pump.

+jwunes that makes sense that there would be that risk. Thanks for pointing out.

Not bloody likely for a brand new bottle of oil to have contaminants...
pre-filling the oil filter will help the engine build oil pressure more quickly after an oil change. Whether it makes a measurable difference is hard to quantify but it's cheap insurance. I think it less beneficial and more risky to do this with fuel filters though.

My dad is a retired diesel mechanic who worked for Caterpillar and he recommended prefilling the filter just like prefilling certain diesel fuel filters. A new filter will have no contamination and any oil on the filter housing from the old filter is all that should be there. I think I’ll take my old mans advice as It’s yet to steer me wrong yet.

@@chrismcnee9287 I designed diesel fuel systems for years at Caterpillar. Don’t prefill filters. It bypasses every level of filtration in the entire system and heads straight for the pump & injectors...

Actually one does not have to remove any of the side panels to access the oil filter. I change my bx oil without removing any panels. There is a cut out which allows access to the filter. Also pre fill is not at all necessary. If fact it can do damage to the engine. Just Google it an see for yourself. Caterpillar recommends to not pre fill filters. That practice is left over from days gone by.

I hope you've learned by now, from TH-cam, pre filling a filter is absolutely not necessary, that filter fills in seconds after the engine starts.

Hey you can put an extension on the filter wrench to make it way easier ,, works like a charm

+Perspectivize kubota15w40. I get from my dealer. It costs a little more but when I have an issue or need something, I get it back on the back end. Whether a free pick up/drop off, dust caps for hydrolic, or even a PTO driveshaft that was too long.

Why would Kubota oil be junk? I don't think a manufacturer like Kubota would have crappy oil!
