    This method is particularly useful when using handmade cordage as you start with several shorter lengths rather than one long one.

    The one thing I would add is for the lengths of rope for going down you really need about three times of what you think you need. So if you want a net that's 2 foot in width you'll want about six feet of rope hanging after the larkshead knot. Due too all the knots you'll tie.

    Maybe in the future you could show how to finish the net with the bottom piece of paracord. What kind of knot do you finish on the bottom with? Bruce from the city of Orange in Orange County California

    • @jeffgrumley8230
      @jeffgrumley8230 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruce Ferguson I'm not an expert this is just a guess...maybe run a second ridge line along the bottom starting with the same process working toward the middle and do maybe a square knot or the slippery knot, that lashes 2 pieces of cordage.
      By doing that I would think it would be easier to add as much length as needed. I am not entirely sure if this is practiced as I said but it makes sense to me

    I grew up in FLA, An we use to have ALOT of net makers there, luckily I got to see how this was done as a kid in the 60's, but they always used the net needle for speed an that's how they made their living. I was under the impression that you had to use a net needle, now I know you don't, will add this to my bag of tricks, loved the simplicity of it, very easy way of making a net

    To make a large enough net for gill netting it would take approximately 10-12 hours, 3-4 days with a shuttle and gauge, and about 4000 to 5000 feet of line or cordage. The right size mesh will give you 4ft in height and 25 to 30 ft in width.

    Awesome! Never even considered making a net before because I just figured "how the hell?" and stopped there. This video could have been named "Net making for dummies" because it doesn't get any more well explained and shown than right here. "Easy as pie" will be what I think next time making a net comes up. Thanks!

    This is awesome. I'm really loving your channel! I couldn't help it...I started thinking of a hammock. The rain sounds comforting, in my opinion. Question, do you have any good resources for rope/cordage in bulk at reasonable prices? We have a bunch of 550 from our time with the military, but other rope would seem like a good thing to have on hand as well.
