That’s what true artists can do. They can paint a completely different picture for you every time and you will still feel something. The artist is supposed to make you happy, sad, angry, etc. The artist is the consciousness of society. That’s why fascists hate modern art. Art is a catalyst for introspection. Ghost is a piece of art that takes openness for you to fall in love with. If you hate them now it’s because you never understood them in the first place. Ghost is bigger than itself. It becomes a family that spans the globe with a common language. We don’t need meatheads who just want to hear the guitars chug the same riffs all the time while they mindlessly smash their heads against the rail. Ghost attracts the best people in my experience and repells the worst. Tobias Forge is an extremely intelligent, kind, & talented person. His music reflects his view of the World. He says he just likes putting on a show, but he’s telling you about who he is at the same time. The underlying message in Ghost’s music is freedom. Rebellion from the forces that be. It may be dressed in Catholicism, but it’s inherently political.

My reaction when I first heard this song was EXACTLY the same as yours! I was extremely surprised, and I had just read an article about how Tobias Forge came up with that sound, it was actually inspired by something he saw on a Swedish culture channel, about this Brazilian party music, which he described as a rapper, but was more likely some Brazilian funk artist (we call them "funkeiros" here) given his description. And, being from Brazil myself, specifically from Rio, where funk is the most popular kind of music, I thought I knew what to expect from the song. Well, I couldn't be more wrong, that sound completely blindsided me, it was just a perfect mesh of funk and Ghost, and that's insane, because they're just so different! But I guess that's what Tobias does (and maybe that's what makes Ghost so refreshing), even when you know what to expect, he manages to blow your mind, somehow. And that's what I love about this band, always a great new experience!

Same. Just joined in with the new album and even though I'm not even close to being a metal fan in general, I just couldn't stop listening to them. Every album has its story and it's own atmosphere, sometimes I'm more into the heavier stuff. Faith, cirice, mummy dust, twenties, other days I'm more on the Kaisarion, kiss the go goat, majesty line, sometimes the more "evil" ones aka those that are a little bit more mighty and just epic, going for year zero, ghule/ zombie queen, nocturnal me, deus in absentia( one of my favs) and sometimes just emotional sobbing with Bible, darkness at the heart of my love, he is, life eternal and so on. I love all songs, old ones, and the new songs are just incredible and have so many details. It feels like entering a different world for me. The more I dig into ghost, the more I love them.
Call the genre they play what you want, it's just straight up good

Great review! Really appreciate how you focus a lot on the positive things without making it feel forced. You are using your knowledge and skills to help us appreciate things more while at the same time mixing in critique. I think its a great format for making your videos very easy to digest no matter what opinion I as a viewer have about the song.
I also like that you dont dumb it down so much. I know basically nothing about songwriting but you mention something new for me all the time that Im able to look up and learn. Love it.

In Portuguese, Chulo (n. m) and Chula (n. f) both can mean (informally) a pimp or someone that takes advantage of someone's generosity/good nature, overcharging someone or obtaining funds in an illicit manner, hence the verb [chular] which means doing just that

The songwriting is definitely yuge. But yeah, on a more serious note, I absolutely love the marriage of biting satire and the "between the pandemic and the societal unrest it's the Roarin' Twenties again" memes in a song form, complete with 1920s-appropriate visuals and almost operatic touches. Great to see you like this one, too!

Totally agree with you! Good artist evolve. Tobias got the inspiration from a Brazil musician he saw on swedish tv. Only he could write something like these. Why? Because he is a genious. And yes it's Fredrik. He plays on every song on the upcoming Impera album.

You should hear Tobias talk about how he came up with this song… he was watching a documentary about a rapper playing in a Brazilian Favela and he basically got the beat from that!

Fred from Opeth did all of the guitar for this album. Normally Tobias does it all, but he doesn't play any instrument very regularly because he has the entire band to run and every song to write so he decided to have a professional guitarist do the recording this time.

We just saw the Ghost stadium tour a few weeks ago and Tobias went over to the Guitar Ghoul during a solo and wagged his finger as the Guitar Ghoul started shredding, then pulled him down from the podium. Made me wonder if Tobias had seen your video and was memeing himself. My girl and I laughed our asses off.

Its a very dark broadway type of tune. And it speaks to whats happening right now with the politics of the left echoing the 1930’s leading into the 40’s like our 20’s are now heading into the 30’s. However, if they are following the decade concept, if they do the 90’s, it should get even more bigger and heavier.
