You say that, but I just found 10 lotus petals in my bulk because I was pulling mystery boosters when I got into commander and didn't realize it was worth anything. Lol, and I currently run the in 3 decks.
@@crokar5835 Wow, never thought people lived passed 25 in this world considering I’m 26. The point is that a lot of enfranchised players will have likely given up the game either a decade or more ago (and won’t be engaging) or recently due to the mishandling of the game (and will probably have sold out too as the market is yet to completely crash). A lot of players these days tend to be from the last 4ish years when commander became the face of the format.
My computer teacher had a lotus petal in his bulk, I found it when I was building a random deck of cheap garbage whilst I wait for my next block. Asked if he had a deck that could use it or something, he said he’ll think about it and to just leave it on his desk. Later I taught a whole grade 8 class how to use photoshop since the sub couldn’t figure it out, the next day he gave it to me and said that it’s price was around the same of minimum wage. I still have it, I might frame it with a title of my first paycheck or something.
The price was manipulated a few years ago. I sell on TCGplayer and woke up to over 150 sales one morning. The people who got together to do the buyout haven't sold back yet but it is not as rare as the stats say. There is just a lot of people holding on to massive amounts of them.
I started playing Magic around 7th edition and the release of Invasion, so I have a lot of nostalgia for Masque/Invasion block. I recently got back into Magic, still have most of my old cards, so I was like "Ooo, I should go to Card Kingdom and see if I can get the rest of the cards to finish a collection for Prophecy. Why the heck is Rhystic Study $40?!"
I worked at a game store in 1998 and we couldn’t give away portal boosters. Even crazier a few years later we couldn’t give away 7th edition boosters and eventually threw a bunch out in the $1 bin because nobody wanted white bordered cards back then. And this one hurts but I myself even traded dual lands strait across for fetch lands when they were new. Crazy times.
Funny story with Rhystic Study - I attended a prerelease event but did poorly. The prizes for that were 2 consolation packs made from the LGS's bulk bin along with some old promo. Well one of those consolation packs had a Rhystic Study. This was maybe 8 or 9 years ago so definitely different value back then.
lol and here I thought I’d a lucky break getting a Japanese print Forrest Bear for $7 and then they announce it’s getting a (albeit probably just as frustrating to find) reprint in my favorite frame treatment!?! 😅
When i was in the military, i had a friend pretty much buy out all the Lotus Petals he could get his hands on back between Shadows over Innistrad and Eternal Masters. He baught like 300 copies for like $4 each. Have no idea if he ever sold them or not. 🤷♂️
Really funny. When I first got into Magic I bought 6 packs of Prophecy that was basically being discounted. I pulled 4 Rhystic Studies. This was way before Commander was a thing.
Yeah I totally have a portal 3 kingdoms card sitting in my bulk. Im 90% sure ive also heard you say on this channel you know those sets were extremely short print, but okay. Slay sis.

Yeah I know I have dozen of those Rhystic Studies in my old bulk piles, oh boy Prophecy was so bad. Probably should sell them before it gets reprinted.
Lotus Petal got manipulated a few years ago. They were only like 3 to 6 bucks. One day I woke up and had 160ish lotus petal sales on tcgplayer. Every person bought many, many of them. The price has been going up and availability going down since then. If you have some sell them now. Sooner or later the people who arranged the buyouts will sell and the price will fall again. There were way to many at one point and the people who did the buyout have not sold back yet.
Okay but who has a rhystic study or a lotus petsl in their bulk bin? I feel like most people if not everyone who reads them would be like, "oh crap these are actually quite powerful." And would either slot them in a deck or set them aside for future decks rather than their bulk bin.
It's incredibly rare due to the low print run of English P3K, the set was printed as an entry product for Chinese players and was primarily printed in . . . not actually sure which regional language, but I know that "Chinese" isn't technically correct here. The cards were also largely not legal for a while, so they were not easy to find _before_ that was changed.
I did that a couple years ago and was shocked to find that it was over $100k. I hadn’t played for over a decade, so I sold it. Kept a few decks and my commons & uncommons though, so I may have to go back through.
