    "Shits up brushes good and proper" - solid laugh from me on that one.

    As a painter myself of 15mm, I am admiring of your technique, sounds great and effective, inspiring!

    I love your attitude to painting these. "I think these are smoke grenades. I don't know if this is the right colour for smoke grenades, but I don't care" 😝

      It certainly makes things much easier! haha

    I like the way you painted these, those look better with those colours than the historically accurate ones.

    What kind of detail brushes do you use? They look effective and stay in their sharp shape. Mine always seem to wear out quickly.

    Yeah, dude. I love these. I have the same outlook about my miniatures. “Looks good from 5 feet away” is my mantra.

    This week's protip: Latex/Vinyl/nitril glove for the hand not holding the airbrush. Saves so much time trying to scrub the paint residue from the crevices beside your finger nails and your hand in general. In fact - reduces it to none. Also keeps greasy fingerprints off. Trust me, your hands produce enough "skin fat" to leave finger prints (they're there, you don't have to see them :D) to change the way paint adheres to and interacts with the surface.
    Nice job, I like the colour choices :) Nothing is ever "100% colour accurate" to something that happened 80 years ago.
    All it takes is one of the guys washing the uniforms using too much detergent (or the factory producing it to fuckup slightly with the mixing) and they all get a few nuances lighter :P A few days out in the dirty wild and the uniforms look different again. A few weeks in bright sunshine and the colours significantly fade, same for time spent close to the ocean and its salty air. The company producing the uniforms changing pigments because the one they usually use is hard to get during war time-> change in colour. A platoon changing the issued part of clothing to something more comfortable they bought or found somewhere: different colour alltogether.
    Even if you get a sample of a real uniform now it really isn't the colour it was when it was worn in WW2 due to fading and discolouration in almost a century - unless it was stored in a dark, temperature controlled vacuum chamber for the whole time, which I doubt. Paint it the way you like and be happy with it. I surely am :) It's your hobby.
    Addition: If you feel like adding a little variety easily, you can use different browns for the wooden rifle parts. In reality hardly any two looked exactly the same, some even completely different :)

    Wow! Herbert, that was absolutely fantastic my friend. I am just about to start painting a few figures and this video has been very useful indeed.
    Many thanks and have lots of fun,

    Ye Herbert, you are right, 15mm infantry is all about how much time are u gonna invest in minis. But i must admit these faces are gonna hunt me in my nightmare's months to come )) Thats why i decided to paint infantry by pure layering techniques, it takes more time but in the end they look less nightmarish upclose than paint with washes.

    I would describe the final results as excellent! My vision now sucks, to be honest. I do the following: prime black with gesso, drybrush with white gesso to bring out the detail so that I can see it, block in the colors of whatever it is I am painting, give a wash of strong tone, and finally a light drybrush of khaki over the entire model. I figure that the wash represents the dirt, oil, and sweat that would soil the clothing, while the final drybrush of khaki represents the dust that everything picks up when moving cross country or along dusty roads.

    • @HerbertErpaderp
      @HerbertErpaderp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That seems like a perfectly fine paint job. I do like adding the details and such, but there's nothing wrong with a simple paint job either. Especially if you want to get a force out onto the table. We all know painted models fight better.

    are you going to paint the tanks and halftracks next? to finish the Grimball's beasts box set..

    Great job on the tutorial painting and basing 15mm figures. I really like the colors and size of static grass you used. Can I asked what brand you /size used? You also mentioned the colors were scorched and dead, any other colors?

    Nice paintwork and good video. This is why there are no painting videos on Fog of War. Other people like you do a much better job! My British infantry are brown. Just brown. I do like the look of the Strong Tone and Dark Tone washes. I'll try some of those. Maybe they will texture the brown.

    is 5 hours per base to much? I'm really slow, (and have bad brushes) so these are amazing quality, great detailing

    Great work, you could probably ise this infantry as early war marines since you painted the jackets green but no camo on the helmet

    • @HerbertErpaderp
      @HerbertErpaderp  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess at that scale it'd be hard to tell if they were or weren't specifically equipped as marines so you could paint them however you want.

    Nice video Herbert! I would have been more curious to know what valejo colors you would use for them as I got all my paints from vallejo. I am a lil color blind :) so knowing exactly what colors from vallejo to use will really help me. I got an idea but would be great to know some vallejo variants of the other colors u used. Thank you very much!

    • @HerbertErpaderp
      @HerbertErpaderp  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm going to have a look at what I have on hand and see if I Can come up wiht some vallejo comparisons. Probably do that in ask a herbert erpaderp. In the meantime there's probably some information on google, though any time I search things like that I mostly just find a bunch of opinions and have to figure it out myself anyway haha.

    Is it possible to just paint the base color with brushes, or do I need to invest in an airbrush?

    • @HerbertErpaderp
      @HerbertErpaderp  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's definitely possible to do with brushes. It might just take a little longer. Make sure your paint is thinned and do a few coats and it should work just fine!
      Almost anything you can do with an airbrush you can also do with a regular brush.

    • @HerbertErpaderp

      I've no idea. I'm sure Vallejo has a colour called US Field Drab. No idea how it compares to the AK colour.
