I lost both of my Basset hounds, Daisy & Winston, 4 weeks apart from cancer. Miss both terribly, with Winston making my grief almost unbearable. God broke the mold when he made Basset hounds. They are the most wonderful, loving creatures on earth. Love Bassets!!
I completely agree that they are thee most loving creatures, I lost my two Bassets four months apart, one to cancer, the other passed from a broken heart of missing her sister. It was a long dark road that the grief overtook much of my life. Unbearable is the word. Now fast forward 6 years later, we gained another beautiful boy named Bean. So much love and life he gives us. I am sorry for your loss.
We lost our wonderful 8 year old male to lymphoma two years ago it was very hard to take his loss, we have a 15 year old female that we spoil as much as we can, sadly after a 50 years of being owned by Basset's she will be our last, the older we get the heart break of losing one of these hounds it too hard to take anymore, they are only on loan from God to us for a very short time...
Yeah I just lost my basset Sunday she was my everything 4 13 yrs.one of the hardest losses I've ever had but she kicked ass & was a regular at buckroos my local pub.
I am so sorry, Dan. I lost my beautiful baskets Rufus and Bubbles two years ago and still miss them terribly .I came home and found Rufus dead on the floor from heart trouble . Bubbles mourned terribly and then hurt her back and developed cancer. I had her put to sleep. My babies.
I love Marmite. I especially love the way he is totally unfazed by the vacuum cleaner. He certainly loves his belly rubs. I dogsit a neighbor’s Basset boy. Sadly Marmite passed away few years ago now . Broke our hearts as he really was the best dog ever 💔 We went a year with no dog and our house wasn't a home. Then came along Stanley the asset Hound puppy . There are a few videos of Stanley on my TH-cam page plus he has his own Instagram page stanley_the_basset_hound_uk x

This munchkin is a scream! What a hilarious baby! From sniffing the camera to staying in his bed while the vacuuming occurs to scratching, barely the door to come back inside-just hysterical! Kisses and hugs to a real hoot! Btw, he has an awesome family!

I had a male Basset named Alexander. Used to bark with him in our backyard. My hiking buddy in the Southern Cal mountains. He died of cancer at age 10 almost 20 years ago and I still miss him.
I grew up with a Basset Hound named Csaba. He departed to the forever hunting fields many years ago. He was a very good friend, but he was a thief. I could list at least 300 things he stole from our kitchen. We still loved him so much.
At my house before this one, my Basset Zeke could open the fridge! Now he's 11 and doesn't steal so much, in fact, I was a bit sad one day about it, but then a few nights later he stole one of my pork chops (I know better than to leave food where the dogs can get it, but I just zoned) and I was like "my boy's still got it!"
I totally adore him!!! What a sweet love!!! I just love his little sleeping nook under the stairs, in his little tub bed... Precious is the sound when he drinks, barks to come in and s scratch at the door....what a beauty of a Basset boy!
Yes they sure do have it hard! Our family always had beagles growing up I dared to be different with getting a basset on my own. Most Loyal and connected dog I ever saw.. from learning key words, having a set routine, always curious what you are doing with your hands... in the kitchen, garage, outside.. Id call them the smartest breed... but they seem to only like to use it to be mischievous!!
OMG! He's so beautiful...I've had several Bassets in my life and cannot imagine a day without one. Always a best friend, always there to pick you up and kiss your worries away. The pitter patter of those nails on the hardwood always following you. Thank you so much for sharing him with us 🐶
Agree. I have seen many overweight animals. He is a good weight for his body/size etc. There are nasty trolls everywhere jealous have nothing to do or both.
yeah those who call the basset "owner" a bad one for letting them get fat have NEVER OWNED ONE ! Basset hounds are great fat or skinny ! Mine is fit and not fat but its because he is an atypical basset with a drive to walk three times a day . The chubby bassets earn all the snacks they get and desurve to be spoiled as much as they want to be . Fat or skinny a basset hound is a good dog and they who hate on the people who fatten up their bassets can simple take a long walk off a short pear !
This dog is by no means overweight, he's just right. His chest is brawny but his stomach is rather flat and based on the video he seems to get much exercise and has a healthy diet. Besides, good luck getting a BH to do something against their will!
We had a basset hound named Gigi for 14 years, she was a hunter, sniffer, loved to run trails and sleep in our bed. Snored like the devil, and 1 of the best dogs I ever had. I still miss her terribly after 9 years!
This hounds beautiful superstructure is perfect and there's not an ounce of fat on him. Additionally, his domed head is perfection! I love me some basset hounds and I care for them exactly this way...I dote.
Beautiful dog reminds me of mine...Roscoe.Lazy by nature with a whats in it for me attitude but loves to walk and no landmark goes unsniffed or peed on :) Best dog I ever had!
What a dog's life! He looks like he loves his home and beautiful area outside. Looks like a country side somewhere, where traffic is no problem. I have Bear and Chloé, 2 basset hounds myself and they are just as spoiled but I live a bit closer to the city. Still, we have a park 2 minutes away..5 minute walk to get there with a quarter mile trail around it a big field on one side and forest on the other side and a fenced in tennis court they love to run around in. Mine are ify on the vacuum, one follows it until im done vacuuming and the other runs away, hides and barks at it. Both get belly rubs teeth brushed ears cleaned and brushings. Find myself asleep and petting them throughout my sleep. I wake up and I'm petting them "what" hehe. Great video and Basset Hounds are a wonderful breed loving breed!
if you want a dog that likes to lay next to you on the couch and cuddle up with you in bed, or anywhere actually, then get a basset hound. they are GREAT dogs. get a couple of them and you wont need a heater in the winter, lol. if you want a dog to go jogging with, lmao, look for a different dog. you will never regret getting a basset
one more thing. don't let some dopey breeder talk you into buying their expensive "champion bloodline" basset. as long as they are born healthy (like any dog) youll be fine. one breeder actually tried to tell me that his $1200 bassets were bred specially to be great calm family dogs. I laughed pretty hard as I hung up the phone. our basset had puppies and we sold them for $600(I have some puppy videos posted) and we had people come from Indiana and Michigan to buy them. we live in PA. im not a breeder, just a family that loves basset hounds and had puppies. good luck
my first dog was a basset..and for this person who at one time was a ornery little girl I will say this. small trouble making children and basset hounds go together like melted ice cream and summer.. I miss her.

aww, he's a big sweety!! there was certainly something on the other side of that fence that smelled interesting to him, a rabbit or perhaps a horse even? He's a handsome hound, and VERY laid back, even while you vacuumed, mine would have been going nuts, she always attacked the vacuum cleaner. Enjoy your hound!!

We have two Bassie Boys, Columbo Dawg & Quincy Lupe. We can totally relate to this "day in the life..." But my boys are scared to death of the vacuum!!! Beautiful bassie you have!!! Just the snuggliest dogs!!!

One advice i'd give to any Basset Hound owner is to be cautious when they're out in the open. Once they catch a smell of something they will wonder off and wont stop until they find it. They normally don't get far since they wobble but be on the alert anyways. My hound wont go anywhere unless I pull him or carry him. Btw I love the name Marmite!
Oh man I just put a deposit down for a female. They don't take off on you do they. My 8yr old has been wanting one gonna surprise her for Christmas, I Been looking for a breed that is good with other animals and kids, and every time basset hounds pop up. Is there a certain way to train them so they stay with you outside.

fantastic dogs just keep in mind they can be quite a bit stubborn and a bit difficult to train but once your past that there very very good dogs

They are not trainable lol! But they have so much character, it's worth it! I miss mine so much :*(
