It's funny to come back and watch this after Cheese just reclaimed the WR today
I saw a vid from Cheese a little while back with him reflecting that he doesn’t feel as entertaining as other speedrunners who post to TH-cam (or something along those lines). Like ok, Simply’s weird dry delivery of lude content is unique, and others have their own style but Cheese totally has his too!
Cheese your vids always make me smile and laugh and it’s just you being you. I’ll sometimes scrub through other sm64 speedrunners vids but I love every second of Cheese vids, even when it’s just you being insightful, or reflecting about what it’s like doing what you do. No need to look for a style or put more effort into developing entertainment - I think you’ve got it and it keeps me coming back.

Explanation if needed:
Franz Liszt was regarded as the most technically skilled piano virtuoso of the 1800's (or possibly ever) and supposedly some people thought he could have only acquired such skill by a pact with the devil. It didn't help matters that he incorporated Faustian, danse macabre-style themes in a lot of his big works.

Watching back,i can only imagine the pride cheese feels when videos talking about the history of speedrunning keeps mentioning his name and achievements. Truly a humble guy
I really appreciate your emotional honesty in this. This is what it means to be human. I’m a musician that sees this kind of competition all the time. And it sucks. But it makes you better.
If you are competing in music, you are making music for the wrong reason my guy. Music is one of the most subjective things out there.

When cheese entered tippy in his last wr, the time was 1;24;17 almost a full minute behind Liam's tippy entrance time, BUT if Liam had had as good of a tippy that cheese had, he would have gotten a mid 1;37.

1:37:07 tippy pace after that ~30s loss in SSL. If this is any consolation, I think he only did HMC BLJ in order to compensate for these time losses, so it's not entirely necessary just yet.

Haha. Cheese, Karl’s whole schtick is to fawn over the current front runner. You WILL get the record back. I believe in you. But at the same time, don’t think that humanity stops evolving. When you are long dead someone will beat your record. That’s just a fact of life.

I think that's gonna take a huge while, for him it's only around 63 seconds of possible time losses. I don't think anyone can play that close to their sob in 120 tbh, at least not in the next 2 years

"Willko clip should be banned." That does bring up a good point. 70 star bans BLJs right? Because you're not allowed to skip star doors. But in 120 it's basically anything goes right?
yes, anything goes for the most part. The only banned strategy I know of is remapping the analog stick to a button press, which makes framewalking easier.

Is it possible y'all could make a new challenge with no backwards long jumping glitches at all just collect them with normal? Collection strategies is there a record for that? That's separate cheese @cheese
I think that'd be interesting, but the main problem is apparently people arguing about what a "glitch" is. For example, Lakitu skip. Not a glitch necessarily, but some view it as such. To me a glitch is like BLJs and clipping, etc, but good luck justifying that to everyone

It's so hard to say how low it can go. there is more people speed running sm64 now then at any point. More people looking for new strats and optimization will only make the time go lower 135 maybe... Even lower?

I still think Liam could have got a 1 35 if his run were totally perfect. I can see that barrier happening within a year. Some guys nerves will totally be in check and not miss a bowser throw. As a spectator I'm very excited. These records are being broken faster than ever
I could see 1:36 happening within a year maybe but 1:35 will take longer. He'd have to make less than a minute of mistakes, have perfect RNG, etc. I've never ever ever seen a top runner come within a minute of their sum of best. Possible, yeah. Realistic for 1 year out, nope. There's also something to be said about maintaining enough focus and being able to perform under pressure of the nerves of that kind of pace. The reason top runners choke bowser throws to this day is not so much the difficulty of them, but just about 99% nerves and super high heart rate making it way harder than it should be. That's why you almost never see top runners miss throws if they are on a bad run.
I do think 1:35 will happen eventually, just not soon. It's impossible to know how far off it is but I'd say we're years away from that at best. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Bro, even in short categories you can't expect times that are within the range of just a few seconds higher than the SOB of the top level runners
Cheese is nr 3 on the leaderboard and has a sob of around 1:35:56.
1:35 takes years, but a 1:36 was actually possible. Still insane and unlikely, but possible. A 1:35 needs at least years or new godlike runners

Mario bros nes are far more optimized then Mario 64 but Mario 64 is more time consuming and longer more strats honestly alot of people who are wrs in mario 64 usually only stick to that game alot of Mario bros nes wrs have wrs in other games or maybe I'm thinking of the small handful of them those guys though are insane like shut like niftski and darbian and that TMR GUY THERE FRIGGING INSANE SOMETHING ELSE BUT I DON'T KNOW IT PROBABLY JUST TAKES WAY MORE TIME IN MARIO 64 MAINLY BECAUSE FAR LONGER AND FAR LONGER

It was the only record I saw live and always hoped that he will reset at some point because the chat was already horrible after that JRB lag / blackscreen or whatever it was. I'm not sure why people always think about the worst. Why should cheese splice his run in such a way lol
