    Thanks again for the video! A quick tip for everyone: after a couple of months of experimenting with dwarf roses, I found that grinding the pollen sacks of the father plant between your fingers helps release the pollen easier. My issue was I couldn't get the pollen out of the sacks.

      @@diannellyfetalvero4893 Rose seeds are in rose hips a fruit that forms underneath the flower. Rose hips generally turn red when they are ripe often in the late summer or fall. Some hybrid roses have infertile seeds. Generally it is more reliable to use cuttings to get rose plants since those started from seed might not be like the parent.

    Wow, fantastic to see this, and all respect to people who dedicate in making flowers better and more beautiful for us. It is such a privilege to be able to pick any colours, scent rose etc from nurseries, absolutely stunning. I am a big rose fan, I have 9 varieties of roses, all planted by myself, (3 more on wait list!, and I curiously live in "Rosedale Cottages" ), one of my roses is almost perfect, in colour, shape/size, scent, disease resistance and foliage, non thorny, but I would like it to be a climber. Is it possible to make climbers through cross pollination, without loosing all its existing perfect qualities? I was intrigued and amazed to see after its first flush of flowers that colour of lattice changed from a perfect (non orange, non pink) apricot blush into milky coffee colour. It is not bicolour rose(which I adore btw!), but it significantly changed colour in its later stage of bloom, and lattice stayed for a long time before falling off. It is just a perfect rose in evey sense. Just on its self. Has dark foliage which beautifully contrasts its bright colour range. It is a hybrid rose, so unlike my David Austin roses, it doesn't have a perfect chalice shape or velvety soft texture of the lattice itself. But, if it is a climber, and if I could use it as cut flower, I would propagate it all around my garden, it is a perfect flower.
    I just wonder can we turn it into a climber and a cut rose variety through cross pollination?

    Different roses have different numbers of chromosomes. For rose 2n=14 and the base number of chromosomes (X) is 7. So for diploid rose 2n=2X=14. For the series though, the tetraploid rose species are 2n=4X=28 chromosomes, the pentaploid roses are 2n=5X=35 chromosomes and the hexaploid rose is 2n=6X=42 chromosomes. Is it possible to cross between these groups or are there certain roles. Diploid x tetraploid OK? Diploid x pentaploid not OK?
    Perhaps you could send me a link to an extended article on how to choose the father and the mother.

    • @Paulzimmermanroses
      @Paulzimmermanroses  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you get depends on what you cross. If you cross two roses that are mixed colors you will likely get mixed colors. Grafting won't make any difference.

      Pranav Sujan grafting does not help with intermixing of colours. You have to do this to mix two different roses. I recommend you to search about grafting maybe tou will get it then. I cant explain it well because english is not my first language

      rizvy ornil roses have both female and male parts.

    • @cliffordreinhart3436
      @cliffordreinhart3436 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      all you do is take pollen from the plant you want the traits from and put them on the pistol or the female part of the other plant after you removed all the male parts the pollen ducts called the anthers.

    • @8Sheu
      @8Sheu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    How long is rose pollen viable?
    How would you store rose pollen for future use?
    Is it a bad idea to put the lid on the pollen cup?
    How long does it take for the seed to fully mature in the hip, - I.E. what time of year should one consider as not having enough time left in the year for the seed to develop properly (we're in zone 5)

      The hips turn from green to orange to red to brown to black you want red its the most ripe without spoiling the seeds the more ripe the better they germinate

      Either can be the mother or the father. Just depends on which one you take pollen from (the father) and which one you put it on (the mother)
